Haha yeah maybe if it were awd but it's not. The Evo X sawd system is awesome. From tarmac gravel to snow. Each giving torque splits to the front and rear. I love my X

I got to admit that Focus RS in white looks much better than green and blue. But as much as I love that Focus RS, I take the Evo. The 10th generation Lancer is where Mitsubishi really got the styling right.

The Focus is of rally pedigree, not touring car championships. The Sierra/Mondeo is of that breed.

I'd have to agree I had the evo 10 FQ 300 with the SST gear box and I had nothing but problems with it, after spending 1500 quid on a new cam chain after 36000 miles I traded it in for the focus RS and I love it the sound is brilliant, it makes me wish I'd gone for this in the first place.

Hi I'm from the future. There is an upgraded stronger chain now! The engine is an open deck design on the Focus and has proved unreliable, unlike the semi-closed design on the evo.

Well even with the same hp focus is going to lose very bad!!! I saw evo vs lambo on a track and the evo win !!! People dont understand that evo is here from the 90" ,this car was build for race , and not for having nice seats ,nice entertainment etc.... Just pure racing. Evo is other Lv and this evo x is about 8 years old.

wooh my evo won :) that being said, this was done in the MT... after driving with the TC-SST in S-Sport, it's really hard to do handbrake 180's and also hard to get a good launch.

These guys know how to drive because, the old man there is Tiff Neddell. A legendary F1 racer. He also used to work for top gear, but obviously found it is script to biased. So.. Yeah. Tiff's no vulgar, he's honest to his opinions, and I very well respect him for that.

You guys do realize: 1) The Evo is limited to 300hp, with just a tune it's at 260 awhp. With simple bolt ons, it's at 330 awhp. With E85, it's at 400awhp. Focus... not so much. 2) The track is a small track w/ consecutive turns (no straights for power to be a factor). 1 second difference is a lot... if not huge.

Just an FYI - we have a few companies here in the US that track the reliability of automakers, such as JD Power and Consumer Reports, etc and according to them, many of the US Fords match the reliability of the japanese autos, and exceed the average reliability of the volkswagens, bmws, audis, etc. I'm not a huge ford fan at all, I just figured you might want to check it out.

So, this is what Fifth gear do with Evo X. Racing with Ford in the track. While Top Gear took Evo X and raced it with Lamborghini in the track. That's the difference between TOP GEAR and Fifth Gear.

A friend of mine has a tuning company and so a dyno at his company factory. He owns a Focus rs and an new rs 500 and put it on a dyno. The normal focus only had 230 hp and the rs 500 something around 260 he said. They tried to tune the rs (normal one) and didn't get it over 300 hp. I've heard this shit before with other fast cars ! I'm a big fan of the focus rs and this was a real slap in the face for me, and also for him spending 45000 euros on a RS 500

If the focus was sold in the US, and they have calculated this, it would be worth 31,000. Around the same price as the Evo, if not cheaper

Today there was an interesting announcement made in your own country: "A panel of judges have unanimously declared the Ford Focus the used car of the decade, both as the overall winner and as the best medium-sized family car. The judges, an assortment of used car and vehicle valuation experts, voted for the Focus due to its ability to set new standards of quality in the volume car market." So are they wrong too? Are all these "experts" wrong? Have you done a better survey or study?

John Blond This Focus in particular got a 5 cylinder Volvo engine. It might be a Ford but it have an indestructible engine inside so yes.. it si very reliable...

@opuliski Stop watches have been used in every form of motorsport since their inception. Even with the cool gps timing gear in our race cars we still use stop watches from the pits for our own feel for the pace. To your credit though, there's just no way to get that ten thousanths place in your timing with the stop watch. You still have to use modern timing gear for that. -cheers-

100% agree. they're starting to do so though, ive seen commercials for the mondeo being sold as the new taurus. but i also read somewhere that the focus rs will NOT come to north america because it would be too costly to streamline manufacturing processes here (as NA focus and EUR focus are 2 completely different cars) shame.

FQ 400 vs RS 440 Would acctually be a challange with the Stig as the 2.5L is not as squeezed from factory as the Evo MR but with the right parts... The Focus is better value for money, comfort + the ad ons equals less than the extortion of over 50k for new FQ 400

True.. Even with a TCS, the driver was still losing traction on 2nd gear. That's one of the reason why it's losing time. Not only that, since it's FWD, and has too much power for an FWD, it's putting too much pressure on the front tires, which causing to lose loose grip faster, and wearing out the tires faster. That's why it was having bad understeer, and it was affecting the breaking performance. I think the Focus wouldve won if it was at least a RWD or 4WD..

It says alot about the Lancers chassis that they build the evo on it. The Focus, even the FOE version, just isn't intended for all out racing...

take it easy focus rs is £27,280, and evo gsr starts from 30,290 (Europe) but in my country ... rs is MX$470,000 and evo gsr is MX$430,603 Do not bother =)

The Evo only gets Chassis que's from the Lancer. The AWD came from the Galant VR-4 in 1992 when the Evo 1 was introduced into the rally circuits. The only reason it retained the LANCER name was because it was easier to name it the Lancer Evolution rather than start a whole new line of cars after putting together a Rally ready frankenstein out of other mitsubishi cars/parts. It is NOT an evolved version of the Lancer, considering Dodge/Chrysler ALSO owned the rights to the Lancer.

Its an absolute SHAME that the Focus RS isnt available in the United States! I'd love to play with one on the open road in my Subaru WRX here in Chicago. The truth is folks, American car companies are pulling out all the stops and are finally making world class products. The new Dodge Challenger, Chevy Camaro, and much improved Ford Fusion are proof that we have come a LONG way and have learned from the competition.

@JetpackJamiie very true and top gear is a great program with some twisted tests etc..people gotta love it for sure! That said, never forget clarkson and co got drivinglessons from tiff needell in the early stages...they'll probably won't drive that bad , especially looking at some of the drifts they make in some neatly powerfull cars. But they are just not interrested in the real racing-bit of it all , like many people. So yes , FG is boring, but in my thinking also a good addition to TG .

The 4 wheel drive will have edge at some point. Can't directly compare a 4WD and a 2WD head-to-head. I will still go for the Mitsubishi Evo in this case.

Cant really compare these cars tbh. The RS is FWD and the evo is 4WD so in different classes. Id still take the RS every time, what a car!

Also when looking at prices for the standard vehicles the evo starts at about 34-35k. And with the track time difference being only 1 second, I'd take the 1 second hit and save some money by going with the Focus. I'm in the US so we don't have the RS model yet, but the ST version starts at about 23K. If you aren't going to be racing the thing, why spend $10k more for a car that you would notice the difference on.

+Red Gaming 1 second per lap, huge difference. Take in break fade, and the RS would more than likely drop more than a second per lap the longer it goes on.

It is available here, they've bought 400 to this country so far, most of them were pre ordered but there is the odd one popping up in the show rooms, mainly in that vial green color!! Lol. I think there are more on the way very soon but i think i'll stick to the Mountune ST, same performance figures, more comfort and better economy for a hell of a lot less money.

I love TopGear, and i love Fifth gear. they shouldn't be compared though because they are not the same. The petrolhead part of me watches fifth gear, the teenager part of me watches TopGear. There is some cross over, but people need to stop comparing like they do. Harrumph.

Hmm....I don't know If you know this but every car, which is same size as Focus, so Opel Astra, VW Golf, Honda Civic,... do that in sharp corners. This is 3 point driving. You can see that also in karting.

The Evo is faster because it is AWD. The Focus is much much nicer to drive everyday and live with because the Evo is such a cheap nasty car inside with a very harsh ride. The Ford has a gorgeous sounding 5 cylinder engine. The Focus will also be worth a lot more money in another 5 years time, they don't depreciate as much. Both are very good at what they do.

GZT Yes, I have. Many many many different versions. They all look like they crashed into a shop for aftermarket car parts list. Cheap seats, sound system, plastic quality, buttons and switch gear. Mitsubishi's interior quality, feel and style on Lancers Evos are all about ten years behind everything else.....

GZT Let me take a wild guess- you're from North America. North Americans don't know anything about interior quality. Everything you have ever driven up until recently has been cheap crap knocked out so it would sell rather than last and stand the test of time. So unconcerned with quality and up to date models you didn't even get this version of the Ford Focus, because it was too expensive and too good for you- instead having to make do with the first generation long after it had been discarded in Europe and then in 2009 a cheap crap 2nd generation with the Focus name slapped on it. I'm right aren't I...

man idk why ppl hate on 5th gear. this show was supposed to be a replacement for the original top gear but top gear came back and of course its gonna be the better show. 5th gear isnt a bad show but top gear is a better show. of course the evo f300 is gonna win it has the same hp as the rs but with a very sophisticated awd system cmon watchu expect .

Buy a focus and tune it, it's a better car for less money and you can bring it to par with an evo x while still saving money. American focus and American evo, the evo in the video is a FQ300 not available at U.S. Dealer ships. A 5spd focus se is $17000 and an evo X is $33,590 base. You save $16590, drop that into a focus and an evo x won't stand a chance when the performance is within a $34,000 price range the focus has it.

Just 7000 alone would be a 4.6L conversion for the focus and it also converts it to rear wheel. I have a friend with an 05 evo and after a couple thousand in upgrades he is still just under 300hp at the wheels, but he is also turning good times at the track at low 12's. Evos are great from the factory but cost alot to make better I just can't see spending that much on the 1st and then the parts. Mitsubishis aren't cheap and neither is maintaining one.

5th Gear WAS Top Gear, the show ended and then came back with the new Zany antics of Clarkson and so on, the Original Top gear which is less Zany and more to the point wanted to come back as well but couldn't use the same old name hence "Fifth Gear". These shows work with each other as well.

@richboy900 People who really know will choose the RS over an Evo. The RS will turn heads in the street, people won't even notice the Evo. Yes its should have been four wheel drive and yes its slower, but it carries the RS badge and has instant pedigree because of it. It also has that wonderful, rich sounding 5 cylinder engine.

Most Evo fetishists will miss the point that the (FWD!) RS was only a couple of seconds behind when pushed to the limit. In real-life, daily usage, you won't ever be approaching that level. The RS is a beautiful machine and I am jealous of the fact that it (apparently) is never going to come to America.

Agreed. Ford improve on one thing then back off on another you can't win! On the old 1st gen Mondeos the old build quality & inside styling was great. Nice cream leather interior & wood look dash on the Ghia Models, big chunked out padded inside doors. It was like sitting in an arm chair. Sitting in a Modern Mondeo is far from the old. Its exactly like a Kia Carens inside. Stiff seats, rock hard plastics, audible rattling. Spaciousness is a step Fwd, Interior quality is a step back.

It's fifth gear, of course it's annoying. And I would choose the Evo if I had to get away from RWD. At least as a daily it will be fun to get friends in the back and go for a weekend somewhere. A fast weekend

@vectraturbo4x4 Making the RS 4x4 defeats the point in it.. The reason why it's an amazing car is because it produces 300bhp in the front wheels, making it fun to drive. You could give the RS another 100bhp if you made it 4x4, you could do the same to any car..
