If the story had stopped here and not gone on to be made into an entire trilogy I wouldn’t hate it as much. At the very least, Ana learns that Christian was toxic and walks away from the situation and Christian appears to see the error in his mistakes.

At the end of the day, they have different desires. Kink shaming is wrong and Ana is allowed to be upset but equally Christian isn’t actually weird or wrong for wanting what he wants, many people enjoy that stuff, many women want that stuff, and between consenting adults it is completely okay. Obviously if it becomes non consensual then it isn’t okay.

I partially agree. I dont necessarily think they had different desires. They were just on different pages ... I also dont think Christian enjoyed his lifestyle... it was what he was taught through his own trauma in life ... When Ana came along .. she gave him a different outlook .. she had questions. Her unawareness of his reasoning was a challenge for him.. and it made him think about why he was the way he is .. and he realized that he would lose what he really wanted by not being open to change .. And as for Ana .. she was open to his way of doing things out of curiosity... she came to crave and desire it when given the confidence from Christian... The change came when it wasnt just Pleasure that was the focus but Intimacy as well

From a BDSM perspective, they're both wrong. He, as the Dom running the scene, should understand that she's gone past her limit and should stop the scene immediately. She, as a Submissive, should have safeworded out the second she felt uncomfortable with what was happening, which she obviously was. Total lack of consent and communication here. Safe, sane, and consensual are the 3 pillars of BDSM play. This scene demonstrates none of that.

It's not shown in the movie but Ana would usually give written consent to each act she is willing to perform. That was the contract christian was so anxious for her to sign. She wanted to experience a punishment but it was more than she could handle and bailed on the whole relationship.
