I am really working hard on trying to grow as much of our own food as possible! One way I am working on that is by growing tea. In this video I harvest, dry, and taste test fig leaf tea for the first time! I was shocked to find out that fig leaf tea is AMAZING and it tastes like figs. Fig leaf tea is supposed to help with blood sugar levels as well which is always a plus!

I do love using as many parts of a plant as possible. I DO want to warn people though, that fig leaves and sap are a very common skin irritant. It contains a phytotoxin that can cause actual burns on sensitive people , when exposed to the leaves and sap, and then sunlight. It can be extraordinarily painful and itchy, so just be aware when in the fig tree, getting skin exposure to the leaves. I have to wear gloves and a long-sleeve shirt to pick my figs. .

I read that the sap can help some skin conditions and I put it straight on my rash and it has been amazing in one day! Dehydrated some fig leaves and loving the tea. Thank you for sharing with us!

@@honeybluse yes, there are some people who can use it for that. But, as I stated as a warning, read a little more on it. Not only did I find out about it personally, but, having researched it after having the reaction myself, I found that it is very, very common. As an ER nurse, I felt compelled to share that info, as well as the fact that the sap and leaves have given 2nd degree burns to people who had contact with the leaves, and then sun exposure. Just passing along additional information that may help someone.

This is one of the few channels where I don't watch the videos at 2X speed! You are straight to the point and if you share reasoning, backstory, or additional expo then there is no drawn out monologues. LOVE THIS CHANNEL I've watched cleaning/cooking/declutter videos where they unnecessarily narrate what they're doing...um, yeah, I know what vacuuming/chopping/sorting is so I don't need someone to explain it. Ugh

My Korean mom drinks Moringa leaf tea everyday. She’s a spry 70+ year old who didn’t take any medications until this year. The trees grow so quickly and one tree will give you more than enough tea. You can put the fresh leaves in a salad. They taste nutty like arugula without the bitterness.

Oh my I didn't know this about the fig leaves. I'm on my way out the door to pick and dehydrate! I make iced dandelion mint tea heavy on the flower and light on the mint. It is always my go to for a summer cooler but I do add some sugar. But just a touch of tulsi/holy basil makes it delightful in dandelion tea. Can't wait to hear about more of your mixes. Just picked 5 flowers that popped up very unusually after Elsa went through north Florida and they had quit blooming about a month ago. It will make about 2 nice cupsof hot tea with a bit of tulsi and be great when I've been outside sweating! Dandelion tea is a mild diuretic but actually adds back way more than it removes so I will be doing my body good after it works so hard in this heat.

I have a fig. It’s also an anti inflammatory. It seems to relax me before bed time. It has a wonderful mild slight sweet flavor, yes a little figgy. But I wait till the fall after the leaves die and are dried on the plant. I then harvest the entire plant. I store in mason jars and have enough for the entire year. Very good and healthy. Add lemon for a little zing.

Love your channel and your enthusiasm ✨ You can use the fig leaves fresh to do tea . It’s also delicious cold and refreshing ( fig water). The sap can be irritating so it’s best not to drink it. But has been traditionally used in Europe to treat wart. Finally, try to put the leaves around a chicken before roasting and the chicken will have great flavor and stay juicy.

I was raised with figs in trees most of my youth. We loved them. We tasted the leaves once and nearly choked. They were very bitter and had sticky bristles on them like stiff fuzz. They were Italian as is my family. The figs were dark and very very sweet like sugar. Mom made preserves for her use and we ate them right from the tree. I loooove dark figs.

I would love to have a tea garden someday! That is even more awesome though that you were able to make it from a plant that also produces other things!

I like to use up all my plant parts too! I never would have considered fig leaf tea before. I don't have space for fig trees yet but hopefully i will someday because I'd love to grow some

First I make fig leaf tea. Strain. Then make coffee with that fig leaf tea. I also use fig leaf tea when I make apple butter. And recently cooked garbanzo bean in fig leaf tea before using those beans to make a pie crust for pumpkin pie. So far all of these uses are good.

I discovered fig leaves this summer! I dehydrate them at 115 degrees for about 4 hours, then run them through my coffee grinder. I've added them to my red rooibos tea and it is wonderful. Now I'm experimenting adding them to other teas.

My kiddo is type 1 diabetic and I make fig leaf tea for him! It’s delicious and I think it does help (in addition to eating a healthy organic low carb diet!)

Made my first batch of fig leaf tea and i love it. I dried the rest of the leaves in the oven. They're so big. 😮i should have brought scissors last time. This time I'll do that with gloves so i don't get sap on my hands too.

Love fig leave tea. raspberry, blackberry leaves, and persimmon leaves are also good for you. I like to mix a little mint leaves with mine.

A little info - Figs only grow on new growth, so as your tree grows each year the figs get farther and farther away from you. Trimming in the Fall will bring it all closer, you won't lose production next year. ..... I grow mint for tea, but you've gotten me interested in dehydrating my fig leaves and giving it a try! Thanks!
