Are you a figure skater trying to understand which Radius of Hollow or RoH may be best for you?What about the proper way to care for your figure skate blade? I explain the radius of hollow so that you can better understand which RoH may work best for you. This video is actually part 3 of my series on blades. In the first video, I discussed the parts of the blade and the rocker. In the second video, I discussed blade types, what they are made of, and mounting.

I think you meant 90 not 900 degrees? Great series on blades! I watched the others and combined with my skate tech’s recommendation, just ordered new blades and looking forward to skating with them soon! A trustworthy skate tech is so important! I don’t know if you have videos on breaking in new boots or getting used to new blades. That could be a useful topic for many people!
2 жыл бұрын
You’re correct! I misspoke! Honestly, I wear Edea skates so there is literally no break I’m time so I can’t do a video on breaking in skates. As far as getting used to new blades it varies so much depending on the blades and your skating. It just takes time and a good coach!

Love your videos, they’re so informative and helpful! Have you or any of your skaters tried the Jackson legacy 7 blades? Thoughts on those compared to coronation aces or MK Pros?
25 күн бұрын
I don’t have any first hand experience with Jackson blades, outside of those that come with boots as complete outfits. In my experience nothing compares to JW and MK.

I was adviced by my coach to get either the mk professional lite or coronation ace lite but how are they different from the "not lite" versions apart from the lightness
4 ай бұрын
The lite versions are better suited to petite skaters that are not jumping.

I am currently skating in Jackson Freestyles with Aspire XP blades (in Canada, started skating for first time in my 40s and currently progressing from waltz jump). I'm a bit on the heavier side and get a 1/2" ROH. However, I always find the first ten or so hours or so the edges catch a bit too much, and once they dull a touch they feel soooo good. Would you recommend a 280 grit atone to top hone them a couple of times?
Жыл бұрын
I would ask your tech for a slightly smaller ROH
@barbarab202
@barbarab202 Жыл бұрын
Wouldn’t smaller (like 7/16”) make them grab more and make this worse? I tried 5/8” once and immediately had them change it back to 1/2” as the 5/8” gave me no grip.

I do not recommend that you use a hand stone to DIY ;)
@barbarab202
@barbarab202 Жыл бұрын
Oh, absolutely, I would *never* even consider a full sharpening DIY. Skates/blades are way too expensive for that. What I'm curious about is whether a light top hone (which the local pro shop also does with one of those stones) would help in making the blades bite a bit too much for my liking for the first ten hours after a sharpening, or whether going for a slightly different ROH. I like the 1/2" overall, but as I get my skates sharpened after about 25-30 hours, I seem to only get 15-20 hours max where they feel really nice.
Жыл бұрын
I mean going more shallow. Can can try 9/16 or ask your tech to stone them a bit to take the edge off but that will mean the sharpening won't last as long.

What would the ROH for a skater beginning to take classes, but that has done recreational skating, so therefore not an absolute beginner? Thanks.

The best thing to do is to tell your skate tech your situation and have them advise you.

Hello,do you have a video about doing blade mounting correction after I’ve tested the blade out on the ice?
Жыл бұрын
I don't have a video dedicated to that. I always leave it to my professional tech to make those adjustments and he doesn't like to be on-camera!

@ ok so can you recommend some places in which people can learn to be professional techs and where people can look for these professional techs?
Жыл бұрын
@@pujpromptunikjoy6971 The best way to find a skilled professional tech is to ask your coach or the skating director at the rink where most competitive skaters go for fittings, sharpening, shaping, and mounting. Most professional techs learn by apprenticing under an experienced pro. So, if you're looking to become a tech. Start by meeting with one and asking if you can apprentice with them. There are no schools for this.

What do you think about parabolic gold seals? I’m going to buy them, but I don’t know which type: standard or parabolic. I heard that they are more difficult to sharpen, and in general the difference is not worth that extra 50$
2 жыл бұрын
This is a great question! I like the idea of them, but you do have to make sure that you have someone that is skilled in sharpening as a go to because they can be tricky to sharpen. That’s the main reason that I haven’t gotten them.

@ thank you! I will probably go with standard ones because of the same problem. They will be my first more expensive blades, so I don’t have to much experience with this topic.

@ Can I ask you also about one thing? I’m not super beginner skater, but still, i have been skating for about two years (closed rinks becaouse of pandemic so practically about an year, but I skate 6-10h per week), so I can do single jumps and all that beginner stuff. Im around silver lvl. I heard that gold seals can be too difficult for me becaouse of 8’ rocker. I not really understand what that means, I can’t find translation for that in my language, and actually any information about that differences. But is that really true that It will be too difficult? My coach said that they will be ok but I’m not sure if she is familiar with that topic enough. Someone told me that coronation ace will be easier, because she is better skater and she also had troubles to use gold seals. As I said I don’t have too much experience with expensive blades, so I will have get used to each blades I will buy.

I think my blades are rusting even though I wipe them after every session and keep them in soakers.
7 ай бұрын
Make sure that your soakers are dry when you put them on and that you're not storing your skates in a humid environment. Have your skate tech check the blades to ensure that there are no defects. If everything checks out, it could be that whatever material your blade is made is - not all blades are of the highest quality unfortunately.

@ I have the Mark IV blades and my soakers are dry. There are little black dots on the bottom of my blades so I'm not sure if it really is rust.
7 ай бұрын
The Mark IV is all-purpose beginner blade. The black dots sounds like oxygenation. I've seen that happen with the Jackson Ultima blades. I can't tell you why it happens as the blade material is proprietary to Jackson. Check with your skate tech and consider upgrading to John Wilson or MK when you are ready for a more advanced blade.

@ Can you tell me how to prevent oxygenation please? ❤️
7 ай бұрын
As I explained, I have no idea why it happens to Jackson Ultima blades. I suspect it has something to do with what the blades are made of - that information is proprietary to Jackson. Please consult with your skate tech and consider upgrading to John Wilson or MK when you are ready for more advanced blades.
