The 2014 Olympic Season just showed how seasoned as a coach Brian Orser is. As much as in control Yuzu is of his skating, his coaching team definitely played a role on his success. He guided and continues to guide Yuzu well. Truly, he is one of the best coaches out there.

Very good point! But I remember in one of the interviews, Orser mentioned it was Hanyu who came to him, tell him "I wanna be the Olympic champion. Tell me what I need to do and I will do it" Something like that.. It was the drive of the skaters and everyone around them will be working towards it. Admire Brian Orser so much!

@@FigureSkatingFan I remember that too. Then, young Yuzu isn’t a master in terms of competition strategy but Brian is, he guided Yuna to gold after all. I remember in an interview with CBC and Katarina Witt, Brian mentioned that he, Yuzu, and Tracy sat down and strategized for it. They purposely chose to face Patrick with the intent of catching up to him in every skate and surpassing him at the Olympics. They wanted the judges to compare them side by side. Eventually, though Patrick beat Yuzu in terms of artistry then, but by competing against each other every time, the judges saw how Yuzu improved with every skate making his scores reflect such improvement. A very thought out strategy.

Covid, too many quads that most skaters can't handle and the absence of Yuzu made the current GP season an emotionless event. So sad if you watch previous season sometimes there was unbelievable energy and magic present. Miss Yuzuru so much

Thank you for the video! I always thought Pyeongchang gold medal carries more weight than Sochi gold medal as Yuzuru was undeniably the King of Ice in terms of skills and artistry during Pyeongchang era. However, this video changed my mind. Instead of going for small victories, seeing before Sochi how Yuzuru chose to go heads on with Patrick Chan, the strongest opponent at that time, really shows he already had the mindset of a champion. He chose the toughest way. And Sochi Gold was the result.

4:12 In that part, Yuna's interview translation was completely wrong. She said, "First of all, what was the biggest concern in the future... I think I was thinking about whether to continue my career or do other things," but did not mention that she was not invited to the Grand Prix or that it would affect the Olympics. Failure to participate in the Grand Prix series before the Olympics may have had a significant impact on the Olympics, but I think it is problematic to misinterpret and use the interview of athletes.

ここは目の付け所が素晴らしい。ファニューからこういう問題提起まで。そう、フィギュアのGPシリーズやファイナル、世界選手権は一般的に知られていない、一番の認知度はやはり五輪なんですよね。それを獲ることに一生を賭けた羽生君の判断は正しい。「私は特に男子シングルに対して楽観的じゃなかったけど、GPのイタリアとフランス国際を見た後悲嘆にくれてるわ」と海外コメにあったけど、羽生君がいないと確かに数十年前の大会に戻ったような錯覚を感じてしまう。ほんと太陽が隠れてしまったよう…

@@FigureSkatingFan Me either. I just don't have any interest at all. I don't care who wins or who is even competing in any of the Grand Prix qualifiers, and I definitely don't care about the final. I hope to see him sometime this season. Maybe JNats? If not, I won't watch that either. I wonder how many people feel this way. Yuzu brought hordes of people to figure skating but many are here only for him.

i was actually shocked to see Yuzuru's PCS rise from the first 2013 GP event to the final and be on par with Patrick Chan's. Not sure how that happened as I have to look back at his program to see what changes he did. Patrick Chan at that time getting 90s in PCS is rare as he excelled mostly with his program but suffered with his technical score. By this practice from Yuzuru really shows how flawed Sotnikova's PCS scoring in the 2014 Olympics, she averaged 60 then suddenly jump 15 points up in the Olympics.

Correct, Yuzuru climbed his way in that season strategically and of course he got the skating skills and artistry in the bag unlike you know who.

I think his changing coaching team in 2012, his talent and, of course, hard working have paved a solid path to the stunning rise of the scores in the years to come.

Very interesting! Didn'!t know about that strategy! YH is a special guy indeed and has got a great team behind. I make worryes about his lungs...they are oversolicitated- this is why he sweets so much. And also about his knee! He sufered surgery before and it is about a delicate mecanism that articulation! God bless and help him to achieve his dreams!

Хотела высказать своё мнение про Юну в 2012. Ее "не пригласили" не потому что она не была популярна, "не интересна" ISU. Просто у неё рейтинга не было, поскольку она полностью пропустила сезон 2011-2012, и она не объявляла о своём возвращении аж до июля, когда списки на Гран-при уже были опубликованы! Вот и ISU наверняка подумали, что она завершила карьеру. А например Тесса со Скоттом о своём возвращении сказали в феврале 2016, когда возвращались с двухгодичного перерыва. А представьте, как было бы круто если она свои "Отверженные" исполнила перед французской публикой! Но за то она в Лондоне такой шедевр выдала, что всем остальным и не снилось!

Congratulations on how the channel is growing! Always with interesting and innovative videos. Keep going! Ps: now I know my first competition, and it’s junior Spanish championship. (I moved from Poitiers with Brian (France) to Barcelona where I have some members of my family, because we had financial problems and the possibility to keep skating in France was small)

It's a bit difficult to find it on KZfaq as Olympic events are highly protected by copyright. Normally you can watch through paid TV from your country. Sometimes you might find illegal livestream. For example this one: live.qq.com/10012776 --> They always stream the figure skating events and it works on the PC only..

I have this lingering fear that yuzu might skip Olympics. I know last time he missed NHK due to injury and still competed in the Olympics (and went on to become back to back two time champion). But that's exactly it! He's already the two time reinging Olympic champion. Yuzu already won everything there is to win. And if he's not completely healed/fit and also skips nationals, the Japanese federation might want to give Shoma, Yuma & even maybe youngsters like Shun a chance at the Olympics. There's only 3 spot. They might just decide to handover the challenge to the new generation? Idk. This is giving me a headache. Yuzu didn't even say anything about the Olympics. Brian Orsers didn't hint anything either. Yuzu has been so preoccupied with 4A, Olympic probably is not even in his priority.

@@tonya--7704 Yeah, the whole mood for the gp this season is so weird honestly. Idk what it is but it definitely lacks the ambiance it used to have? NHK was pretty cool though with full house and Japanese crowd cheering on every skater.

The thing is, all feds want to gain medals, and yuzu is undeniably still their best shot at that. If yuzu wants to go, he’ll go bc he still has enough qualifications from JSF to be on the olys team. But it’s just a matter if he wants to go or not. Imo tho, yuzu kinda skipped half of the ss already so if he still wants to land the 4A in this ss like he said earlier, he might go to the olys

You know what, the Sochi 2014 result should have not be a surprised. Yuna was already aliniated by the big skating figures even from the season before that. A comeback skater of her caliber usually would atleast have one GP ticket after they announced they would make cb. Gracie Gold has never won anything big in senior (except for team event) but she even got one for her comeback moment at Rostelecom in 2018/2019 even though she had no world ranking at that time. This is why you need a powerful fed or a well known coach who knew how to politicking.

I don't think number 4 knows what #1-3 have picked when he picks, just which events he wants. Also its not always guaranteed its just a tradition. For example in 19-20 even if Nathan wanted to skate at NHK he would probably not have been given it because Japanese fed definitely wanted Yuzuru for ticket sales

i hate to say it skating has become boring again i watched one on the events so lame it feels like no one cares anymore i kinda get it yuzu was such a personality other then his skating no wonder so little people even watched this years event nathen is a very good skater talented but he can't carry skating he just doesn't have the flow all about quad and axels more about technicallty than music and atristic
