International Musical Theater Star Rachelle Ann Go was specially invited to perform at the 2019 World Food Prize Laureate Award Ceremony, held in the magnificent Iowa State Capitol Building in Des Moines on October 17, 2019. The ceremony was broadcast live statewide on Iowa Public Television.
Despite losing her voice just days before the ceremony, Rachelle Ann Go was able to push through and give an amazing performance. She first sang a Tagalog song, "Bayan Ko", gave her thanks, and then sang a Broadway Medley ("I Dreamed a Dream, "On My Own", "The Movie in My Mind", and "Defying Gravity"). She concluded her performance by singing "Rise Up" and received a standing ovation and extended applause.
The ceremony rivals that of the Nobel Prize, drawing over 800 people from more than 75 countries. Each year, world-class performers take the stage to honor the World Food Prize Laureate. Past performers have included Ray Charles, John Denver, Chachi Tadesse, and Kathak Gunjan.
The 2019 prize was awarded to Simon N. Groot of the Netherlands for his transformative role in empowering millions of smallholder farmers to earn greater incomes through enhanced vegetable production, benefitting hundreds of millions of consumers with greater access to nutritious vegetables for healthy diets

I think one good thing that happens when an artist (a rapper) reacts to a fellow artist is that he is able to put himself in the other person’s shoes. Instead of focusing on the flaws, he is able to focus on the strengths, understanding all the struggles that comes with the performance. Admittedly, these artists aren’t perfect but at least, you are able to appreciate them perfectly. :)

Why am I crying? "Ang Bayan ko" makes me so emotional. I just miss my beloved country so much thanks to her emotional rendition. What an amazing voice. When she joined the singing contest in the Philippines which she won, she was my best bet from the very beginning.

MISS Rachelle Anne Go is so deserving to represent the Philippines. That was such an honor. The off Broadway show "Hamilton" just left the Philippines . My Nephew Jesper Mercado was honored to be chosen and was hired as the Sub pianist of that wonderful show and had the honor to play during numbers of shows. I Told him " you are amazing," he said, " No Tita... im just one of the accompanist. Those performers in Hamilton are the wonderful artists who made the show..." To God be the glory and honor for all the Pilipino talents. God blessed the Filipino People with charm and hospitality , friendliness and arts. Music is life in the Philippines. Why am I so moved to tears listening to this song (Bayan Ko , translated My Homeland) I have not heard for more than 50 years? I am a naturalized U.S. citizen (now 47+ yrs) from the Philippines,the land of my birth. It is a patriot song , sang by one of Philippines’ elite artist. Mabuhay ang Pilipinas!
