My name is Aljohn and I am a 20 year old Polyglot from the Philippines. Well not really, I hate being called a polyglot because there is much more to learn than languages alone. It opened me to a whole new world that was once unfamiliar, that felt like a dream, and I grew to love it.
So if you will ask me, I don't really like languages. I just want to discover the world has to offer and appreciate the beauty of it.

@Lxz3
@Lxz3 7 күн бұрын

The teaching of Spanish in Philippine schools has long been abolished since 1985 and the country is leaning towards Southeast Asia and as an ASEAN member country Filipinos would rather learn the language of its neighbours predominantly Bahasa Melayu or Malay spoken in Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei Darussalam and Bahasa Indonesia even Thai or Vietnamese. Mandarin is increasingly used by the Chinese diaspora (Local born Chinese) in our region.

@@JosephSolisAlcaydeAlberici We can use Mandarin to stand up against Mainland China, in case you didn't know I learned Mandarin at Chiang Kai Shek College and much of my friends are Taiwanese which their country is more democratic than China. Then you should emigrate to Spain or to Latin America as majority of Filipinos are more integrated in Southeast Asia. Also Spanish in the Philippines is always associated with the bourgeoise and the elitist society who looked down on the common people.

@@dennis12dec I support the more languages the better, as it opens more doors. Spanish would be great to learn in the Philippines again, along with Mandarin as a world language. With that said, I would like also more of a promotion for local languages in the Philippines to be encouraged for learning, since Tagalog is also seen as an elitist language over other Filipino languages. Sad, but true, since provincial individuals will even deny knowing how to speak their local language, despite being born and raised for 20+ or 30+ years in the province.

@@dennis12dec Most Filipinos don't have recent Chinese grandparents or great-grandparents that would've warranted us to learn to speak Mandarin. A genuine Filipino Chinese does and won't speak Mandarin, but Hokkien. If you think learning Mandarin would give local Filipinos an employment opportunity in an illicit manner, you will be wrong because job positions related to POGO are mostly filled in by mainland Chinese or Vietnamese migrants in our country who are working clandestinely. If you learn to speak Mandarin, you won't be embraced by both mainland Chinese and Taiwanese as brethren because they are so racist that they will judge your looks if you are working with them as a rank-and-file employee and try to court their owners' daughters, you will be fired from your job. It's better to learn Spanish because Filipinos aspire to become like Spanish-speaking hacienderos, not Chinese-speaking mercantes, and the qualify of life in Spain and Latin America is comparable with our country that you won't be arrested without notice for speaking out against their governments, unlike in China where if you post something on FB against the CCP China government, you will be denied from entering mainland China as a tourist, so come to think about it.

Spanish is ALSO an ‘adopted’ language of 20 other countries that were oppressed and heavily exploited by Spanish colonists. More than half of their indigenous peoples were annihilated either by genocide or of diseases from Europe that they do not have natural immunity from intentionally or unintentionally brought by the Spanish colonists. Guess what? They still speak Spanish alongside with their indigenous languages nowadays. 🥴 It is also forecasted that the US will become the next largest Spanish-speaking country in the next 20-30 years. It’s very evident even in my own personal experience and observation. More than half of our colleagues and clients here in the US are from the bilingual or Spanish-only demographic. I guess more than half of the new generation Spanish-speaking Filipinos learn the language for the high-paying jobs in the BPO sector making more money than the English-only Filipinos. This also levels off the competition with Spanish-speaking expats living in the Philippines for the same job opportunities and pay. Just FYI, the country who brought English to the Philippines commited atrocities and mass genocide in the early days of the occupation. Google the original Spanish version of Bayan Ko and learn to whom it was intended for. Lol. Bro’s comment feels like it’s 1989. 🥴
