In this video, I explain how you can successfully pitch your film to investors in a way that gives them confidence about achieving an ROI on their investment.

@@AlexiOuzas Ii am a new kid on the block, so the industry is biased to the same folks who have been in it for ages.. As a new kid, I look for relevant information about the industry from fellow South Africans, but there isn't a lot of you tubers who are sharing that light. However, overall the film industry is growing, our stories are more authentic to who we are as a nation. Action movies are still a battle, which is why we are great with drama

@@nomvuyozungu4895 for what it's worth it's similar in Australia and I think that's the case with most countries outside the US because they are smaller communities and often reliant on Government assistance. Great to hear the industry is growing. What is the difficulty you face with action movies?

For a first or second time filmmaker having no experience with distribution companies is a major drawback because you have real no real profit numbers to share with private investors.

Good stuff.. where do we find the numbers though.. whats a cinema charges.. whats cinemas will pick up your film. streaming.. sales? any templates out there to work from?
@AlexiOuzas
@AlexiOuzas 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Bob, there are no templates that I know of. We custom built our template and use a combination of the available data and our industry knowledge to create projections. In terms of commissions a general breakdown is: Cinema: 50% (in the US, in other countries like Australia it's more like 5%) Distributor: 50% for all rights (theatrical, festivals, VOD, ancillaries) - TV can sometimes be 40% and DVD used to be 80%, which is why there used to be a more thriving indie / genre sector

How can I possibly know how much revenue the film will generate? It could flop totally or it could be a 1st film miracle that does happen. I believe my writing and direction are excellent..( from past experiences) but much of this is luck..right timing for this theme, right audience...so, I have no idea.

Good advice! Is it me or is it becoming harder and harder to find budget information for comp films? I can always find the gross, and can often find budgets for older films, but the actual budget costs for more recent films is often kept a secret for the first few years.
@AlexiOuzas
@AlexiOuzas 2 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure it's becoming harder as I think there have always been films that do a good job of hiding the budget. But I do agree that in some cases it can be extremely difficult (if not impossible) to find. My 'go to' is a quick Google search of the title and the word 'budget'. If that doesn't bring anything up, I'll do a deep dive into articles and interviews to see if I can find something. Is there a particular film you're looking at?
@BrooklynHudson
@BrooklynHudson 2 жыл бұрын
@@AlexiOuzas True! And no, nothing in particular at this moment but I create pitch decks and film investor proposals, so I'm always looking up comparables for clients.

To be 💯 honest>>> I don't know anyone who would have $$ to invest..no friends or relatives with money..I'm quite alone in this..many have family $$ or friends in high places..I'm just a disabled nurse with an amputation that took my leg and my career. I'm barely making ends meet..should I give up..quit..forget this whole idea?? That's hard for me because I don't quit..I don't give up. This will take a miracle..4 sure.

@@AlexiOuzas It was the being honest as you CANT offer a guarantee - I have always said the same thing - no one can guarantee how much a project can return not even Hollywood can - they wish they could. It is all potential ROI based on similar track records.

What happens if you don't make all the money back at once do you need to wait while till the film makes enough that will match the budget of the film therefore pay the investors back when you have full return
@AlexiOuzas
@AlexiOuzas Жыл бұрын
Yes, revenue is usually paid by distributors (or collection agents) to the production company each quarter, so money continues to trickle in to investors. But the majority of revenue is usually in the quarter that it is released.
