@@mrwrigh actually that’s a common myth. There are several different kinds of heavenly beings. The ones people seem to be confusing with angels are the seraphim. Actual angels are the messengers (angel actually means messenger in Hebrew) but they are described as looking like people, but with a bright radiance around them

Another one that I'd really suggest if you haven't watched it already would be Monument Mythos. Not so much because it's scary, but the lore of it. It's ending it's second season and it's about to move on to it's third season. It's absolutely massive.

I know I’m late, but when I was rewatching the series, I noticed that at 0:32 of Mandela Calagoue Vol 1, it says that an alternate can be identified by looking identical to you. If alternates are created by people killing themselves to come back as members of Satan’s army, then you would never see an alternate of yourself. In order for there to be a “you” alternate, you would need to be dead.

Well, the most likely theory for the missing children is a pretty smart play. The intruder knows that a parent's worst FEAR is losing their child. Adding onto that the mom you-know'd herself after she lost her child, which means they can now possess her body.

It's funny how, in less than a week of sleep loss, people hallucinate. I went a week without sleep once because I was afraid, and I wasn't tired and had none of the mentioned side effects. The only thing was that once I was back home, I immediately fell asleep.

This series is genuinely unnerving, I’ve watched horror series before, and in the night and didn’t usually get the creeps, but in the morning when I watched this series, I lost it, I still have nightmares after 3 days. It’s truly a series which shocks you down into the core.

I'm pretty sure Lucifer means "Bearer of Light" (since he used to be an angel) making him an (ex) angel of light, so it would also make sense if he appeared to others in some version of his old angel form

“Something about the 1980s was terrifying” it’s the production quality. Lots of old vhs camera quality, packed condensed sound, low quality material strips your senses of clear stimulus so it adds that small sense of uncertainty to your body and it effectively makes you fear/feel different with old school horror. For example old Texas chainsaw compared to reboots

If anyone else want another similar theory/explanation on the Mendela catalog I’d recommend the video done by wendigoon. He also goes in-depth into this series and has some amazing analysis that is a bit more organised (matpat did a great job too but it would probably make more sense). Wendigoon had also talked to the creator himself and builds his theory on the recommended way of watching the videos (which is to start on the video ‘the Mandela catalogue - The THINK Principle).

Nice. Wasn't the Slenderman also based on Nyarlathotep? Victor Surge apparently had Lovecraftian horror in mind among some other works when he created the mythos. Idk if the Slenderman was meant to be a direct parallel to the Eldritch God but there's definitely a similarity in form and behavior, there's even a Fandom page about it.

My take is that when the “Gabriel” stumbles on the first letter of the word “angel”, he wasn’t saying “I am the alien”, he was saying “I am the Antichrist”. Also, if Alex read up on some Bible theory, he would know that demons usually appear as humans with certain warped or irregular features. The alternates fit this profile perfectly.

I think the intruder is kidnapping children because he is a demon who took his own life because of grief because his wife left him. And now he actively seeks children to take care of, but every time they cry, he is reminded of the child that was taken away from him. I think one of the things that make analog so scary is how we associate it with unedited footage. Before analog horror, this type of video quality was almost exclusive to old home videos, ones that show old real life events. That makes it subconsciously harder to comprehend that what's on the screen is edited, because we equate the vhs style to old, unedited footage.

the way I had a dream similar to this before the mandela catalogue even came out is wild (basically I went to the movies to watch a documentary about an epidemic that happened sometime in the 80s where the infected person would eventually go crazy and there was no cure but when the movie was over I looked to the person I was sitting next to and said something like "that was interesting" and they just looked back at me with a huge grin and started laughing. I didn't sleep again that night 🤪)

So I got a theory on how would someone defeat an alternate. It's confirmed that alternates have a physical form and can move physically and through TV's (probably mirrors too). Perhaps they go invisible for stealth and shows themselves when it finds it's prey. Also I don't think they can harm physically either, they like to inflict fear and madness to basically scare their prey to death. So the trick is to resist fear at all costs for example shout some really messed up stuff. They can't harm physically so go ape crap on them, one of the videos confirm they are killable. They're not omnipotent either, they don't always know your location since you can hide apparently so traps and sneak attacks are a viable option. And also never take your eyes off them, you don't want to lose track of them or you'll get scared. Staring at them will probably mess you up so remember try making the situation ridiculous and stupid. As far as I know as long as you can resist the fear the alternate will fear you.

I think there is a spectrum of them. Remember there is confirmed types of alternates and it may be possible that some can not physically harm you directly while others can. One that can't harm directly may have limits too such as needing to be visually seen to cause psychological death. Like, the one behind Mark's door may not have been physically strong enough to fight him nor force open the door so it relied on coaxing him out where it could begin it's psychological attack (it may need to be seen in order to do this with maximum effectiveness).

It should also be noted that, like in “The call of Cthulhu”, not everyone who experiences MAD commits suicide, 3% of them survive. Now, what we know about the survivors of Cthulhu in his story, is that they become _followers_ of Cthulhu, they worship him and “spread the good word” of Cthulhu, so to say. So, in the Mandela Catalogue, is it possible that the people who _don’t_ take their own lives could potentially become followers of the entity, whether it be the devil or an alien, and could perhaps be the people in the TV that can enter people’s homes and kidnap children? *I think it’s definitely possible, but that’s just me.*

I think even though the creator of this series is 19, as a 32 year old just learning about it this year, (a glimpse of it last year maybe December) I'm enjoying the lore a lot and the aesthetics because it reminds me of The Ring/Ringu which I got really excited for and a bit obsessed with when I was 12, when it came out around 2002. Video tapes had not totally died out on the early 2000s, so that's why this kind of horror still feels nostalgic for me. Similar idea, of a small town encountering tragedies because something that gets people through the television or mirrors seeks to mock, terrorize, replicate and/or contort them. Now with things in the digital realm like AI generated "art" from codes prompts and machine learning, we have a new era of perhaps digital-monster lore ahead of us.
