A war between the North and King's landing starts. Dany rides Drogon but Bran controls it with WARG power. Jon fights GreyWorm killing him. Jaime attacks Dany but weak Jon defends her and both die. Dany have a MAD white hair baby making the war over. End.

Actually, that is something I disagree with (even though disliked the last 2 seasons). Everything good he ever did was either because he felt the responsibility to his family or love for Brienne. Everything bad he ever did he did it for Cersei. He was always ready to both risk his life and kill 1000 infants either for Cersei or Brienne or Tyrion it's just that the latter two were good so it seemed like he became good. Also, he liked and was attracted to Brienne, but Cersei was the love of his life, he's hardly the first man to think he moved on but still loved his ex.

@@nnnp634 I disagree with that statement. The best thing Jaime ever did was killing his king. Not for Cersei. Not for his family. Not for Brienne. It was for the people that would end up suffering, burnt alive. When Cersei became too ruthless, what did he do? He left. Again not for Brienne, but for the greater good, to save people. Those were the biggest sacrifice he made in his life. The hardest choices. Against his family's honor, and his love for his sister, the things he cherished the most. He did those things anyway, because he could save people down the line. But then, once the NK is dead, does he care about the innocents or otherwise? Nope. Why? For Cersei? While he betrayed her last season? While he made that choice to leave his soulmate, the one that completes him, for the enemy, that could very well kill him at first sight? Why would he betray her if he didn't care about people? Why would he go back to her if he did care about people?

Remember how Winter, not just the Night King, was supposed to last years? How each season in the GOT world lasts for years and so winter would as well. It's a horrifying time, where thousands or tens or hundreds of thousands would die, because everyone in the entire kingdom must stock pile food for years in preparation. Because it could be a decade before humanity might even get the chance to attempt to grow crops or raise livestock again. You know, the whole reason that High Garden was such an important place; it was one of the few places in the world that was fertile enough to produce enough food to allow it and its allied realms to survive a winter that long. That there is a royal house who's family motto is to alert the rest of the realms that "Winter Is Coming." That there was a horde of Wildlings who organized and waged a war against The 9 Realms in order to escape being stuck beyond The Wall, because they might all just perish once winter came. Worst weather forecast ever.

@Vasian Vasianich I liked it too mostly for the political intrigues and interesting plot twists, however I hoped that AT LEAST the final season would be better than the previous two (you know, sometimes the screenwriters pull themselves together towards the end). There is much more wrong with S8 than shown in the video. And the biggest culprit is not named - the total destruction of consistency in the world, the characters and in turn - immersiveness. Throughout the entire season the viewer does not understand why the characters act the way they do, why the world suddenly doesn't work according to the established rules and - the absolute worst - why what happens on the screen does not correlate at all to what happens immediately after. If whatever happens is inconsequential, then nothing you see really matters... so why care (or even watch) at all? We see all Dothraki die only to be resurrected in seemingly even greater numbers. Major characters are shown in certain death situations only for the scene to cut and them to be perfectly fine later. Scorpions are unbeatable weapons of mass destruction in one episode only to be completely ineffective in another. Dany flies miles above the sea and does not see the fleet which shoots at her (from two separate directions, to boot!). Cersei is free to kill all her enemies in one swoop, including easily shooting down the last dragon and she.. just doesn't. King's Landing is suddenly on the edge of a desert even though it was always a coastal town surrounded by cliffs and forests. People teleport themselves all around the place, without rhyme or reason, being anywhere the plot requires them to be. And this is just the obvious plot holes, ignoring the inexcusable character assassinations of pretty much the entire cast, complete ignorance of meticulously established world building etc. Basically the season systematically destructs all suspension of disbelief on all possible levels, leaving one completely unengaged and emotionally uninvested. To say that the season was "rushed" and that the ending was "underwhelming" is an understatement beyond belief - the entire show is actually eviscerated from within in a way which is frankly astounding. If someone was tasked with totally (and retroactively!) ruining the show on purpose while not being too open about it, I'm not sure he could find a better way to do it than what D&D managed to achieve.

Exactly this. Thanks for saving me the trouble of putting my feelings into words. The guy from this video seems to just try to see things from D&D's perspective. It's not that we can't do that as well; it's simply that it's a far inferior take on the ending than was possible (and necessary for it to do justice to the quality of the show before it stopped following the books).

@meowington meowsworth I hear ya. Nobody can argue that the writing was good. But Martin did have a quote where he said his ending probably won't be much different than the show. Terrifying. Or, is Martin swerving everyone, and he possibly gave false outlines to the TV guys?

@@danman1789 Exactly. The ending might be more or less the same but it will be deserved. Like Night King actually doing something and being killed by someone meaningful (Jon most likely). Like one dragon not killed by a random invisible ballista shot AND 1 EPISODE LATER one dragon destroying the whole KL with no problem. Like Dany actually going insane over the course of the books. GRRM ain't dumb and he said it countless times in interviews he wouldn't release a shitty chapter at all - which is probably why we'll never get the books finale GRRM gave D&D the outlines which they failed to follow properly at mid and late seasons. I suspect the TV guys realized that they didn't have the skill to make anything besides garbage without having a book as material for the script. So they signed new contracts before the season was aired and escaped as fast as they could. When it comes to being worried about the books being as crap as S8 I wouldn't worry to much. It is way harder to make a script from an outline rather than a book. Check out wheel of times or the dune series to see how different the quality of writing is despite the access to outlines. Nonetheless S8 of GoT was so bad that I am no longer interested in the future books irrespective of quality level.

Honestly I wouldn’t be surprised at all if they were under contract not to say anything bad. The main point of any tv show is To draw as many viewers as possible and no one is going to tune in to your show if they hear bad things about it. I’m pretty sure if anyone portraying a character on the show is heard saying bad things about their product that will be instantly fired. This is just a theory as I can’t find any direct information myself but I don’t think they can say any bad things about the show until after the series is concluded.

Personally, I simply don't agree with you on the battle scene being good in any way, but I have a much bigger problem with your stance on that episode: Your solution doesn't address the problem with the Night King. If they did exactly what you said, it would have ended on a higher note, but it still would have sucked overall. Aside from being anticlimactic in the worst possible way, putting the battle with the White Walkers so early was objectively a deflation of the tension, which is bad by your own rules. The Night King is basically the Satan of the GoT universe. His mere existence is an end-of-the-world level threat, whereas the struggle for the throne of Westeros has never even been the biggest political threat. A supernatural war for the fate of all life makes political strife seem rather insignificant by comparison. Furthermore, you're flat-out wrong about the story "not being about the Night King". The white walkers are the first things we see in the entire series. It's obvious from the get-go that the point of the series isn't who sits on the throne, but that the struggle for the throne is distracting us from a much bigger problem. Ending with any other conflict isn't just inherently deflating the tension, _it fundamentally invalidates the premise of the entire story._

There are actually many more problems: Daenerys' second dragon died in an absurd way since from that distance in the air Daenerys should have been able to see the enemy fleet next to them, and therefore, have moved away and the dragon would not have died. If the dragon does not die she does not have any excuses to get crazy, so the whole final part is disassembled. And it should be added that the death of the night king is ridiculous since he was the real enemy of the series, his arrival should have been terrible and he had a lot of potential to make an epic ending, instead, they decided to kill him in an episode which is already ridiculous And you could keep counting mistakes infinitely at the end of this series.

That's because they mainly focused on visual effects rather than finding an ending that actually makes sense. Example given: At the beginning of the battle of Winterfell they sent all the Dothraki into the darkness. Nobody who is in the middle of a war would just let a part of their army ride straight into the enemies without even seeing anything at all. The only purpose of the scene was for the audience to see all the lights of the Dothraki slowly disappear. Yes, it was a shocking scene, but it didn't make sense at all which kinda ruined the atmosphere for me.

Chekov's rule of writing: if you want to use a gun in the third act, you must have that gun hanging over the fireplace in the first act. I basically want to forget Season 8 exists, and I've made pretty good progress with forgetting many of the details. I don't think changing the pacing and where events happen would save the show, there are too many unsatisfying plot elements. We had a GOT death pool game at my office where we guessed who would die and who would survive. I won the pool with 90% accuracy based on who I thought the writers could safely kill without upsetting fans and who they wouldn't dare touch. I even got the dragons right. But at that point, they're basically writing a fanfic. Despite winning the money, the fact that it was so predictable was very upsetting. And the one thing that wasn't predictable was how bad it was.

I remember watching one of "Talking Thrones" episodes, where he read out a supposed plot leak of the final season. I felt bad because I do believe some of the "leaks" he platformed were legit. The ending to that version went something like this (generalizing): -The army of the dead advance on Winterfell, they sack it. Most of the main characters flee a victories, unconquerable force. -The remnants of the north move south to warn the next victims, mix of no one listening, to eventual panic and mass flight to escape the dead. -Cerci must help to confront the NK, because there is no choice in the matter, Kings Landing will be sacked. -Things are looking grave by the end of the storyline, each force that confronts the dead are smaller than the previous and the dead obviously only grow larger. -Jon Snow and Bran are at the final scene against the NK. The NK even took a bunch of blows and stabs of valerian steel, did not harm him after all. -Bran had been stuck in a Worg state for some time. Bran told Jon he would try to do something to defeat the NK. -The show takes you to Bran's worg travel. Bran thought that perhaps he could stop the NK from ever existing in the first place. He worgs to a scene previously shown in the show, when the children of the forest stab the man who would become the NK. But Bran's intervention takes a turn for the worst, perhaps. He is assaulted by the children, and is taken to that very spot we saw the man who would be the NK. Bran now takes that place, the children drive the danger into Bran's gullet. -At the final moments of complete doom, Jon has by and large given up, but notices something about Bran's worging. His eyes are not clear white, they are ice blue.....Jon stabs Bran with Arya's dagger (she was killed by the NK). The blue worg eyes of Bran fades, and the NK shatters, the dead are defeated. A lot of the details are missing here, but man I was pretty excited to see how those plot points would unfold, and I thought it was somewhat clever. That fake plot leak was so much better of a progression than what was put out. I was extra disappointed when seeing the final season, thinking about the better version that was apparently fan fiction.

As a fan of the books (and someone who hasn't watched much of the show) I would argue that saying that the White Walkers are a 'stepping stone villain' is missing the point entirely. There's a reason that their influence is the first thing that we see in the books (and I believe the show as well), it's because they're supposed to be the overwhelming threat which will make Westeros pull away from its own self-interest. It's supposed to be an ever-growing threat that builds and builds in the background of the story that influences people to make interesting choices. Killing off the leader of the White Walkers in a single move in a single episode in essence makes everything that came before it entirely meaningless and suddenly you're left wondering why the Wildlings couldn't have managed to pull it off themselves.

@@isadora6092 "She's as mad as her father." - Ser Barristan Selmy THAT she went mad was entirely in keeping with what she has ALWAYS been, and entirely in keeping with her family history. HOW she went mad was not properly supported and built up to. Even Anakin Skywalker had better execution in his fall, and he didn't have half the foundation that had been built for her. So . . . you are absolutely correct. She was cruel and vicious, but it was okay because like Ah-nold in _True Lies,_ she could legitimately claim "but _they_ were all _bad."_ While it was inevitable that she would shift to being cruel to innocents and good people, we were given insufficient reason for the transition being triggered. And they had the chance! Her contrition when she realized that she had killed the family of Jon Snow's best friend - they could have given her a different attitude. Her public display of forgiveness to the sole remaining offspring of Robert Baratheon - could have been handled differently. Both could have been used to show how far gone she already was. Wasted opportunities.

"You can't just explain it to the audience, you have to build it up" I think this guideline could also work for Zack Snyder's recent movies. A lot of people mocked the Martha moment in BVS for sounding ridiculous and only later on, when reading the script and director's commentary, they got some explanations. But you can't just show something and trust your audience to immediately grasp why it matters and you certainly cannot wait for the director's commentary option to better explain it. You either build up the moment or you don't write it in. A lot of the backlash could have been avoided if he hadn't paid so much attention to symbolism...

I never watched any of this show except the last episode after I heard all the hype. The Press made a big deal out of her speech, saying it was the best speech ever committed to film or some such hoo-hah. I saw first an interview with the actress who played whatever her name is and she talked about how she watched hours and hours of Adolf Hitler speechifying in order to get Cadence and ideas together. Then they had her talking some fake foreign language, and we were supposed to guess what the idea was behind everything. The speech had none of the proper drama that a hitlerian speech would have had. Al Gore could have made that speech to equal effect. I guess the main reason people were watching this show was to try to catch one of those incest sex scenes that they raved about.

It took all three dragons converging on one ship to burn it down when Danny left Merian. Drogon flamethrowered the Night King with no real effect to the surrounding area. Jon Snow hid behind a rock to no get incinerated by zombie dragon. Dragon fire is currently just a flamethrower. It shoots out alot of fire that quickly burns everything. Flash to final battle. Drogon can now breathe fire so hard it has explosive properties. By just blowing fire at something all these giant stone structures explode like its nothing. The ships at sea explode, the castle explodes, and the city gate explodes. It essentially turned super sayain.

Firstly, dragons grow and become more powerful. Secondly, and more importantly, the Mad King planted explosives all over King's Landing, including the Red Keep. Yes, the same ones that blew up the Sept of Baelor. Season 8 has a lot of plot holes, but it's not one of them.

@What ? Sources !! Also, if both parties are ok with it, getting out of a contract is no problem whatsoever. Both HBO and G.R.R. Martin wanted more seasons, and at that point it was up to D&D to get out of the problems you lay out in the contracts. They did not ! What other contract related problems that could arise, I don't know. But if the actors were also just signed up for contracts up to and including season 8, then they might have a strong bargaining position before entering an extension. That might have been problematic. And a stupid decision from HBO if that's the case. But even so. From what I've read, D&D was in conflict with HBO and others that wanted more. Also, their writing was bad. So it's D&D all the way !!

5:53 No. I disagree. The very first thing we see in the series are the Whitewalkers. They were the real, and eventually only threat to anyone. More than half the series is all about John Snow trying to convince everyone that they were the real threat. And in the end they die with a single dagger, from Arya of all people. Damn, Sam killing the Night King would've made more sense.

That’s because foreshadowing isn’t character development. And many other characters do horrible things as well. According to same logic that justifies Daenerys’s turn, Arya should have been a mass murderer too. Or worse. But she was the sea ex machina instead. That’s how poor writing makes foreshadowing nothing but a poor plot device. Good writing let characters speak and act coherently, and the plot follows naturally from that
@suzukisixk7
@suzukisixk7 5 жыл бұрын
@@riccardoalcaro8483 you guys think your so clever with your new slogan huh? Do you even know what foreshadowing is? Things like danys vision or jorah and baristan talking about Innocents dying in war...that's foreshadowing. Everything Dany did or said (like saying she will burn down cities) IS CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT. Like remember the first scene of season 8 ? Dany being happy that people show fear when her dragons fly over? Ya that's character development too.

I don't think an 18 year old girl being backed into a corner or the welfare of her people being threatened fights back with the only thing she can - a threat that she cannot fulfill at the time is foreshadowing. Now threatening a city for no reason, or burning somebody alive because she likes to watch the flames, that is character development and foreshadowing. Doing stuff for no good reason would show a path of someone being crazy. But doing those same things as a defensive tactic when threatened is something anybody would do.
