"Fighting" also means "let's do our best", "let's finish this safely", "good luck", etcetera. It's meant to be encouraging.

It's a type of Konglish. I also hear China and Japan have similar things - it's English yet it ISN'T English - borrowing English words and turning it into a very different meaning while changing pronunciations to fit the language comfortably.

"화이팅 (hwa-ee-ting) is a commonly used word of encouragement, as well as a cheer. I’m told it made its way into Korean from its obvious English origin via the Japanese-and hence the unusual pronunciation. Language purists insist that it should be spelled 파이팅 (pa-ee-ting) to reflect a closer approximation to the English word 'fighting'." It can be used for wishing someone good luck before some difficult endeavour, to cheer for someone or just "you can do this!" "Let's do our best"

I find "fighting" a very useful expression, with little to no matches in my native language and in English that's because in those situations where someone tells you how down they're feeling, or how difficult the stuff they have to deal with is, and you're left in that awkward position of "well, what the hell can I say to this?", then you can say "fighting" :/ it's a sweet way to cheer someone up without sounding too condescendent

I think the crew holding the umbrella, did it to show where the camera was. Sort of like a tourguide sometimes holds something in the air to keep the group together. And as you said to count it out.

Yes, it is amazing how much goes into any production. Whether it is a music recording, a movie, or a theater production it is a whole team. And they are all important. If a truck driver that is bringing a prop is late, it can ruin the whole day. If a production assistant doesn't properly guide people away from the set, it can ruin a shot. Etc.

They weren't really struggling financially during this year, they just finished their epilogue concert tour, released 2 albums, 4 mvs and an intro mv and 7 short films, bon voyage and other shows all in one year (they were really busy 😭) . this was when the fruits of their hardwork really showed and they were starting to earn really well, it was when they first moved to a bigger house, had bigger & better studios, each members buying their own properties etc Oh they also had a japanese album and its MVs that year too. Idek how they managed to survive 2016 and the years after that without rest 👀

@@bangtanforlife2216 either that or it's a concept. They really didn't release a statement that they were on a budget so i wouldn't assume (these were all speculations from fans) . Esp since they were pretty successful and earning well with their many shows and concert tour prior (more than 20 shows on diff countries) and all the things i mentioned on my 1st comment, they were also the group with the biggest engagement on vapp, BV was a paid content and more, not to mention summer package, memories,dvd, music shows, chart wins, album sales, and more. They had no break not only that year but the prior and suceeding years, they were constantly generating income (their 2015 sales were so good ppl took them to court💀) Im just basing things on that. But then again, maybe they were or maybe they weren't, it really doesnt matter since the song was extremely successful still

Save Me was released in 2016, three years into their career. They had some struggles, but I think they chose this setting for the mood of the song, not so much for the budget. They had already released three School ERA albums, and Dark and Wild, and this is their Third Youth Era Album - Young Forever, May 2nd, 2016. They were really starting to do well. I NEED YOU was their Break through song April 29, 2015, off HYYA Part 1.
@LijenC2357
@LijenC2357 2 жыл бұрын
But they released many mv in 2016, they put much budget on “fire” and “blood sweat tear”, so “save me” clearly has less budget. But how much budget is low budget is relevant. I mean compared with western pop star mv, this is low budget. But compared with other small companies, this kind of equipment and team might already count as high budget. Also, In “I need you” mv, they were so poor couldn’t even pay for actors, they used the manager and his friends to play some roles, and the car they drove was actually one of their staff’s car. This was only one year later form that, so I imagine they might still quite struggle on the money side.

You mentioned that the behind the scenes crew would be asking questions, and they probably did at the start. But by now, I figure they just walk up to the members and the members start talking, saying what is expected, but also just kidding around. At the time this was filmed, they were just starting to figure out that ARMY prefers to see the genuine goofiness of BTS on set and less of the traditional promotion aspect of filming it

The man with the umbrella is their production director/choreographer Mr Son. He is giving the guys counts. He was also helping the camera operator as well. Fighting in Korean is basically a saying to encourage you. It's like "Atta Boy" or "Go get'em" type of saying. So when you see them or ARMY say it, it usually means we are telling ourselves or them to not give up or "Keep fighting." Actually when that camera operator was snaking thru watch the red head. He also has to keep an eye out for him when he is snaking out of their formation so he can time it perfectly to get back into the group formation.

*typing as I watch your reaction - reacting to your reaction LOL* FIGHTING (aka, HWAITING) is cheering you on, like, YOU GOT IT! WE GOT IT! So, the cameraman and guy holding the umbrella are blocking for the shoot so he's not holding a motorized fig rig yet (save his muscles for the real takes) and the umbrella is held up because the fog and rain is making it hard to see and they're just making sure the guys who aren't in the shot are behind them. This is earlier in their career but that isn't a factor in the budget (but yeah, they didn't have much of a budget LOL) - the concept is what predicates what's needed for the MV (DOPE is another MV that attempts to look like a single take - it's not - but I think the PD was going through a phase or something LOL). Single take, single POV, makes it "easier" to not have to have a huge camera crew (that camera man is HERO!). In some of their other MVs, Run, for example, they used their managers are characters on screen and used the vehicles of the crew in the MV - whatever resources were available to them. I love your reactions and explanations because it gives the viewer such a great appreciation for all the work that goes in to shooting a 4 minute piece of art. Mahalo nui for all your mana'o! Also - thank you for providing the link. The way I held my breath the entire 4 minutes of that opening to Touch of Evil! It was brilliant!

How a 4 minute MV can take so much time and work, makes you appreciate it more and the work of those staff that make everything the artists do so special. Thank you! Touch of evil: I was cringing every few seconds, waiting for the explosion to occur! But you can see how they had to arrange the one take - a lot of action happening in one little area. Very cleverly done as it was the first time.... Loved Lucas with the Lid off - very catchy however the scenes almost made me dizzy, so intricate and amazingly done. Can't figure out how they did some of it, especially at the moment when the pic turned 45 degree angles? mind boggling! Thanks for telling us about it, it certainly is one to watch. it’s so cool that the company posts these behind the scenes/making of videos for people curious about the technical aspects or what it’s like on a music video set. my favorite is when there’s a crazy shot or effect in an mv that’s so grand & ambitious that you’re like “no way this is real” but then you see in the making of that a lot of that stuff is like 95% practical effects and set pieces built specifically to pull off that money shot in the final mv. as a film buff & wanna-be director, i live vicariously though bts film crew to get the feeling of having versatile, creative concepts and a massive budget at your disposal lol

I may be wrong, but I believe the umbrella is being used to guide the choreo, such as keeping time, and their in-house artistic director is that person.

Ok 1st assignment done now on to the next. I am loving this education of behind the scenes that I'm getting, thank you so much. Like I've commented before it takes a whole team. The guys are so appreciative of their staff and even give them shout outs on stage ( one clip when they did that had one of the staff getting emotional). Edit: assignment 2 completed-wow that was a wild ride loved it!

Ha! Tysm for continuing your BTS production journey! To add to other comments,.. I’ve heard the equivalent of “Hwaiting” in Chinese dramas.. it sounds kinda like “Jiy~yo!”

I think it's absolutely beautiful how you always tell us about your dancing "experiences" through your wife's career. It just shows how genuinely interested you were and are about her work/passion. Such a wonderful thing to see how you support each other in your relationship :)

“fighting!” is kind of an acknowledgement of the effort someone (or yourself!) is putting forth, as well as a term of encouragement to let them know they are doing well and they’re gonna get through it okay.

There was a period in the '00s that I was exposed to a bunch of Michel Gondry. I liked his Björk and Kylie Minogue ones best. Of course, I was listening to those artists a lot back then, too.

10:12 I laughed thinking “who’s going to tell him there are entire videos titled ‘things you didn’t notice in….’ or who’ll tell him I watch each video 10 times when a mew mv comes out: 1x to get the general feel of the first time ever watching a new mv, 7x focusing on each member each time, 1x for lyrics, 1x focusing on everything going on and how it all comes together.”

They sometimes drive to pretty far-flung locations to capture certain landscapes or architecture, so go with the conditions as-is. In this instance, it was incredibly challenging but it came together beautifully.

Hi Jeff, you may like to react to the music video of Interlude: Shadow by BTS (Suga) which pays homage to Ingmar Bergman’s Persona (from their Map of the Soul album). Like your film perspective. Helps us appreciate the work and boys and the team do to produce their performance/music videos. I love Lumpen’s work. Thx

Loved the videos you recommended. While watching the "touch of evil" I was waiting for the bomb to go off, I was so worried it would go off when there were so many people around. And the "lucas with the lid off" was hilarious. That guy must have been running the whole time. I really liked how they used video in the video and the different "rooms". I would not have guessed that this was a one take. 💜💜
