After today's news about Bruce Willis, we need to treasure every one of his films.

This one was directed by Renny Harlin, who is an awesome action director. My favorite movie of his is "The Long Kiss Goodnight," (1996) which he made with his then-wife, Geena Davis and Samuel L. Jackson. It's a great action film. You really ought to check that one out.

1-3 I love. And I also really love 4, Live Free or Die Hard. Justin Long and Timothy Olyphant are so good in that flick!

It's funny that 1 year later Robert Patrick is in Terminator 2 as the T-1000!! Good for him!!

Such a fun action adventure thriller! Yet, some very sad news: Bruce Willis will retire from acting having been diagnosed with aphasia, which is a speech disorder due to damage in some parts of the brain.

Bruce Willis leaves behind a legendary acting career with his retirement. I'm sure he appears somewhere on everyones favorite actor list. You absolutely can't go wrong when you throw on a film with Bruce Willis in it.

The 3rd movie is my favorite Die Hard. I bet you will enjoy it also. Can't wait for that reaction. Great characters and story! Keep up the great work!

Oh, man, when you said that William Sadler's character had watched too much Terminator I was crossing fingers, toes, hands, legs, etc. hoping that you would notice and more importantly recognise Robert Patrick in one of if not his very first role. Which you did and man, you made me so happy. I love it when I or anybody else does that "Leonardo di Caprio-in-that-meme" pointing at a screen and saying "whoa that person was in so and so movie". Good stuff. And I see that you've heard of Bruce Willis' retirement, well, when I have a day off again, I'll have a cold one on his long career. Keep up the good work, James. I really like your "nerdy" if you don't mind me saying POV on filmmaking.

I think the effects in these first two movies are always a bit underrated. Everything is so convincing they go almost unnoticed, but think of all the miniature work involved with the plane crashes and stunts like landing them in snow navigating smoke burning wreckage. When I first saw this I thought they actually used old decommissioned planes to fly the stunts and blow them up! 🤣

Die Hard is a masterpiece. The second one is fun but flawed. The third is almost as good as the first one.

Fun Fact: The Director Renny Harlin is from Finland and he always puts something from Finland in his movies. In this case, at the end of the movie when the plane explodes and planes are starting to land, "Finlandia Hymn" plays on the background.

The third installment Die Hard with a Vengeance is my personal favorite. My gosh I'm gonna be rewatching that movie the rest of my life lol.

These are the films of my generation and it warms my heart that you appreciate what they brought to the film industry table. Rewatching the with you brings back all the magic.

Random thing that makes me laugh related to this movie is the tv edit from years ago. They censored some stuff, During 24:25 instead of his classic line, he says "Yippie Ki yay Mr.Falcon" and the voice over guy sounds nothing like him, it's hilarious.

I was fortunate to work in air traffic control when I was turning 20, and had a unique perspective on this film when it came out. I love this film as much as I do the first and third movies, but the story could not have played out, like it did, in reality. In the real world, even back then, each airline had private communication lines to each airliner that was separate from the airport. So knocking out the airport's ability to communicate with the planes would not have stopped an individual airline from calling their pilots during the crisis. Still a fun movie, and one of my faves.

The die hard series are some of the greatest action movies with underrated comedy. I love when John is trapped in the parachute and the camera stays jus long enough to hear him complain, " where's the fu@$in' door 😆🤣

… also, fun fact: DIe Hard is actually a sequel of sorts to a 1968 Frank Sinatra film called The Detective, based on a book of the same name , the author of that book wrote sequel called Nothing Lasts Forever which is the bases for Die Hard, contractually Sinatra, who was still alive at the time, had to be offered the McClane role first since he was the lead in the previous film … Die Hard 2 is based on another novel called 58 Minutes, and the third on a novel called Simon Says …

As it is based on a standalone novel, this was originally a non-related project. They just adapted the characters to make it a sequel.

I grew up watching Good Times with John Amos so seeing him in this film as a villain was odd to me.

I started doing a Bruce Willis marathon after hearing about his health issues and he was such a great screen presence in his 80s and 90s prime years.

DieHard2 is quite a fun movie, even after seeing it too many times. The matte painting for the last shot is incredible.

It's the T1000. Robert Patrick's appearance in this was a year before Terminator 2 came out. In fact the director of Terminator 2 James Cameron, saw him in this and decided to audition him for the film. Of course he got the role and the rest is history.

Let's appreciate these old movies, because this quality of practical effects so realistic with miniatures, you don't see them anymore, today an explosion of a plane in any Marvel movie looks as fake as a video game, because it's all done in CGI, instead the last explosion of the 747 in Die Hard 2, it seems like a real plane explode because of how well done the special effects are.

This was filmed at several airports, as well as a studio... The errors in this film, are in the details: it takes place at Dulles in a snowstorm, yet at the opening, Willis walks into the Bradley Terminal at LAX during the summer, and uses a PacBell payphone, lol! That, and the ending with the fuel... The "bag room from Hell" scene...studio. I've worked in bag rooms, and they don't look like that. The mags in the weapons: blue means blank rounds, red means live rounds.

You know, I notice the only people who say Die Hard isn't a Christmas movie are wrong. Go figure. Stay real James, your videos are always so much fun to watch.

I was born in 83 so I grew up watching these movies and loads of other vhs tapes over and over as a kid, a couple other 80s/90s movies to maybe check out if you haven't seen them would be, Universal Soldier(1992), Commando(1985, bloodsport(1988), Desperado(1995), Tango & Cash(1989), Point Break(1991), Blade(1998), Speed(1994), I could list so many movies Lol that's when I realise how old I am getting lol. I hope you keep going on the series James. Die Hard 4 is my personal fav. The action is so over the top! No one could ever survive in reality but it’s so well done and fun to watch.

I think people forget how important TV's where in the 90's It was pretty much the first decade where they were affordable and wide spread to the point where TV was where you got everything from entertainment and news from. Having a news reporter around meant that things were potentially going to go global in a way that is generally taken for granted now that the internet and smartphones have basically made TV's a rarity again Next in the series is my favourite one though it definitely goes up a notch on the "action film" silliness but its the last one before things just fly off the handle and lose all grounding in reality

One of my favorite things about the Die Hard series is that none of the sequels were written as Die Hard sequels, they were all stand-alone action scripts that didn't quite make the cut, and in the end got recycled into Die Hard movies. So, don't expect too much consistent world-building but the sequels are worth watching, especially Die Hard with a Vengeance!

There's a story going around about the actor who played the general. Franco Nero is an Italian actor who wanted to make it big in America. The catch? He didn't speak a word of English. He crammed the entire Othello play phoneticaly (might have been another Shakespeare, my memory is foggy) and got the part. Without understanding a single word he was saying.

This one has always taken a back seat to the first one…the third one however, is in a league of its own..must watch

I was excited to see you were reacting to this. Lots of reactors do DH1 but not the sequels. I admit there are diminishing returns on the sequels, but I like DH2 almost as much as DH1 and the other sequels have their pluses. I was a little surprised at your reaction; to me, it's clear that McClane's love for Holly drives most of the action and I am SO disappointed that you didn't include any of Holly's scenes, or even mention her in the analysis.

i love this movie for the fact that i was absolutely BLINDSIDED by the betrayal of the army dudes. especially the leader, i totally, fully trusted him. idk if i missed some foreshadowing but i was absolutely flabbergasted when they slit that dude's throat in the truck, and then it clicked that it was because he was the replacement because the bad army guy had to stay home. that blew my mind. 1&3 are my favourites but this is not a bad movie by any means! edit: also the bit when the plane is trying to land and the pavement appears super close out of nowhere was effective as hell at scaring the shit outta me

First of all salute to Bruce Willis one of the greatest actors of all time. He is one of the main actors that got me into loving films so I have always a special place in my heart for him. Im from Finland and Renny Harlin is too who is the director of this movie. So this is a special film for me because its the best movie that a finnish director has ever done. Die Hard 1 and 3 are the best like for many other people and this just gets overlooked but this is really a fantastic film but those two are just better which just speaks volumes how good this movies truly are.

Fun ride with some good villains. The third film has more of the first films vibe. You‘ll love that one, as it does get more personal in that one again.

The lead villain was also in Shawshank. Brooks held a knife to his neck.

Gotta recommend Last Man Standing. Basically a remake of a Fist Full of Dollars, set during the prohibition era, starring Bruce Willis. The rest of the cast is pretty fire too.

Every "sequal" ignores what should have been John's biggest regret, not saving hundreds of innocent passengers.

Since you are such a fan of this series, might I suggest you check out Bruce Willis in "The Last Boy Scout". Great action and fight scenes, good comic relief and a great story. Pretty sure you would enjoy it.

The ending explosion, is only possible (still a bit unlikely) because he used a lighter, had it been a cigarette it won't ignite. When they did the super close up of a cigarette hitting in Usual Suspects and it igniting gas you can actually see a spark from an off screen igniter.

After the 3rd film is when they jump the shark with the series, but everything until this is great action movie gold.
