I remember when my wife (before we were married) surprised me with tickets to a special showing of Princess Mononoke in San Francisco. John Lasseter came out and gave just a beaming introduction of Hayao Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli before the movie started. As an anime and animation fan it was just a thrill! My only brief brush with John Lasseter. I didn't get a hug but I would have been cool with it...

Well yeah you’re a dude. It’s usually women upset about being brushed up against or someone glancing at them at the gym, then women who are actually abused are taken less seriously because other women cry wolf and act like they’ve been attacked because someone very modestly hugged them or glanced in their general direction as they wore their tight booty shorts in public.

I just want to say I think calling critiques "tearing things to shreads" gives people these negative connotations about it. I'm an artist and I work with other artists and we all very casually critique each other's stuff, redline, give suggestions, give instruction etc. People need to realize this is a normal, healthy thing for artists.

@@hope-cat4894yes and people only care if a dude does it and a woman complains, if a guy complained about a woman zero people would care and he’d be laughed out if the room for suggesting a woman hugging him should get the icon that built the coma only fired. Only genius behind capable men who built most of the everything we have are attacked using women and it works. Women and those who use them as weapons have taken down so many capable men at this point it’s crazy. Anytime a guy goes against the establishment suddenly accusations appear from now where like they did with Elon musk and Russel brand and so on. The more you criticize a certain group the more women suddenly start having issues with you. Vs the other way around if you actually do abuse women but you’re part of the right group you’ll be protected for decades, or if you’re a woman who abuses children like the one chick who was apart of him who abused a boy and got him addicted to drugs or a woman who abused guys like Amber heard you will also be protected as much as possible and continue to work and they’ll throw a lot of weight behind keeping you as popular as possible. Tons of people don’t like to be touched it’s just only an issue when it’s a woman in society. If a dude tried to get a female ceo fired for that it would go no where. And this particular guy was more than ceo he was the visionary behind the place. And it’s always great to fire the visionary hence why Disney struggled for more than a decade after they lost Walt and Apple plummeted in value after they lost jobs and immediate went back up when he came back. If you don’t continue to follow their vision and principles you start to lose what makes the company what it is and that’s a lot easier to stick to when they’re there.
@ComeAlongKay

@@Raskolnikov70this I don’t think has to do with misconduct, I think it has to do with wanting control over companies so using any possible ammo against them. Disney is fully woke and they’ve pushed out older real animators who understand Disney for activists who don’t know what they’re doing hence the string of massive failures and the quality getting worse in every regard. They know people like Lassiter will focus on quality and creativity and they want to drop that for totally focusing on agenda. The injustice of there’d be no Pixar without Lassiter and they’re using people against him to take from him his own creation. I feel like it’s very likely it’s women complaining about this or being told to complain because they want to get rid of anyone who would steer the commonly towards quality rather than agenda.

@@hope-cat4894 Being freaked out by being touched isn’t something most people have so it makes sense they wouldn’t know about it or assume someone feels that way; I mean tons of people probably have many other issues with tuff others do that everyone here had probably done and those things could also be used against them if they didn’t say anything and then randomly accused them of something. Women in the gym attack guys for glancing at them and I mean literally glancing not even staring so at a certain point eventually anything you do will be used against you as a guy. I think it’s why guys have started to leave gyms and anywhere else they may run into women and why those places that were once heavily supported by guys are dying. They rarely have enough women to keep making a profit in most places. Also if someone did keep touching you they may just be forgetful. As long as it’s not an aggressive type of touching or grabbing certain areas you can’t assume it’s for nefarious reasons right off the bat unless there’s more evidence to infer that elsewhere.

Personal opinion, but to be fair, Pixar management (post-acquisition, pre-activist) would do the thing Chris mentions about portfolio reviews. Except this was in relation to people within the studio already, and on assignments rather than a cold review of a portfolio. And... it went both ways. It would alternate (many times with the same person, on the same exact sequence) between an overly saccharine reception of "Great! You've got it!" to a weird sort of "No, nothing is working here" a few days later. Hot and cold reception to everything a person did was a constant inconsistent. This wasn't even Lasseter either, though it probably was a studio-wide management strategy that probably came from either him or Jobs. Pixar management and culture would also tend to have a whole series of unspoken "verbotens." So like the example of people not wanting the Lasseter hug, there would also be a whole other set of clubhouse behaviors, do's and dont's, that you were just expected to catch on the fly and gladly go along with. Personal boundaries weren't shat on, but they weren't really understood either, even if it was just "Nah, I'm not best friends with everybody on the team, but I also don't want to roast them with a post-it drawing tacked up in the hallway either." Because if you did and it wasn't the _right_ kind of roasting, especially if it was aimed at a Lifer there... Overall it was nothing major, but like with any Steve Jobs operation when it came to "innovation," participation and attitudes about _FUN_ weren't options either. It was enough that the whole culture came across as the Office Space Hawaiian shirt day... only more enthusiastic and less defined. With employment consequences for not getting those 37 pieces of flair. (Management wasn't also above taking one for the studio. For example, claiming that they themselves personally messed up in stalling on a production decision... when in fact the next department over stalled in exactly the same way at the same time, the head in that department also claiming "Whoops, my bad guys." When you've got a situation where people who aren't local to the NorCal area - _especially H1B's_ - were dependent on clear directions, doing a good job and not getting axed because managerial couldn't make up their minds about keeping them on, it was just needless and manipulative salt on the wound.)

To all the good creators out there, please don't sell your properties or your works to a liberal/woke company. They'll mess them up then burn them to the ground like what Disney is doing to all these once were amazing properties.

If there's one thing I've learned in life, it's never trust an accusation that doesn't have solid evidence. We've seen it time and time again. Someone gets accused of something, and suddenly these poor, oppressed people come out of the woodwork saying how horrible of a person X is! And sometimes, it's true. But, even when it is true, there are always people who step forward who are lying out their asses. NEVER trust an accusation when the only sources you can find are anonymous. Especially if it's sexual misconduct allegations. Because, sure, some people aren't going to want their names known because they feel shame. I get that. But there should still be some people who say "Hey. My name is X. This person abused me and others on this day at this place in this way, and here's the proof of it." In todays day and age, where every phone is a camera and video recorder, almost all computer activity can be logged and discovered, and quality hidden cameras can be bought for $20 off Amazon (I know. I've done it), there is no excuse to not get clear evidence of any injustice. NEVER trust blind accusations.

The fact that Alan had to struggle through this tells you one of two things or both. He isn't sure of the position being made or the blowback is potentially so strong that it still makes those in the industry tremble and sacrificing a potential future in it. Whether it is true or not the convolution that has followed in the wake helps no one.

I don't think he isn't sure of the position being made, otherwise it could be construed. He was probably just trying to articulate it as best he could.

Alan did an amazing job of running through the timeline of Lassiter's firing great job guys I love this channel. I've known this for a long time it's when the Golden Age of Disney's animation ended. I am a touring musician I travel all over the US and on my tour bus and when I have down time I listen to you guys I don't really like Chris on Friday Night tights that's a lot of fart smelling going on. Chris is and Alan are so knowledgeable of indie films and just films in general. Those guys well, they are what they are but I feel that film threat is very informative and intelligent and rational. Your channel has great commentaries on different films and awesome Early Access to indie films I really enjoy this channel. You guys are just way more down-to-earth and rational about your reviews and you know Friday night tights doesn't seem to like anything LOL but there's a lot of good films out there that are worth watching and I think are fabulous so keep up the good work guys PS I've watched Chris ever since the G4 days I'm 48 years old so I'm an old man LOL

I have to say, I've never been convinced with this narrative as its been presented. We're told that John Lasseter is just a super friendly lovable guy and nothing untoward ever happened, but its acknowledged by all that Disney had to employ handlers to follow him around at parties in case...of what, exactly? Why would a company take such an extraordinary precautionary measure unless events had convinced them that it was necessary?
@FilmThreat

Two things. The fact that this was never addressed long before his removal was abhorrent. Second, finally getting rid of him was more a political move than a moral one.

But untoward things did happen. Hugging coworkers, especially subordinates, is completely untoward. As said above, thw real question is, why wasn’t this behaviour corrected long ago?
@-yeme-
@-yeme- 6 ай бұрын
@@Stonehorn It wasn't corrected long ago because the default practice in Hollywood used to be that powerful men routinely had their ongoing indiscretions/abuses (delete as applicable) covered up and worked around. Now things are better and those protections have been removed or at least lessened. Personally I think the blame for that kind of behaviour lies with the perpetrator. In other words, you're responsible for your own actions. The person who should have corrected Lasseter's behaviour was Lasseter. Disney acted late but they did act, and eventually he got the sack, which he deserved. Personally I find the attempts to minimise, shift blame or deflect attention away from Lasseter himself a bit distasteful and hypocritical, whether that's the oft-repeated descriptions of him as just a guy who likes to hug people (when I think we all know he's probably way more keen on hugging a hot young actress than, say, some 300lb dude), or to say its all Disney's fault for not doing something sooner. I'm not saying Disney did everything right, but they did break with decades of established practice and say sorry but you're a gross old creep and you're fired no matter how good you are at making films.

Tomorrow I would take control of Disney, the first thing I would is bring back Lasseter and make him the modern day Walt Disney of the company. We need someone who has that spirit and someone who is demanding on a creative level. Walt was a nice man but he did not screw around as far as making great movies. It had to be great and successful. Maybe bring in Stagg for the overall picture and business side and John for the creative side.
