Great video! I've been unhealthily obsessed with Filson for the past few years, and have more of their products than I can count. Great review of the cruisers, and it's cool to see the new vest in a video - it looks really great! You just earned yourself a subscriber!

@@cameronmcpeak5183 The Packer coat is great! Warmest coat ever. However for me $800 is a bit too steep. If you want one on sale, keep an eye out this winter during their winter sale (usually around Dec 21st). I was able to snag one for $299.

I'm also a BC boy, and just purchased the limited edition mackinaw Cape coat. Color is lite red with gray and black plad. What a Beautiful coat. Very thick, 26oz wool. I bought large size so I have room to layer as the weather changes from cold wet and miserable to freezing cold and snowing. Large fits nicely. I'm 5"9 and about 188lbs .One thing though, the prices on the web sites are in US dollars. After taxes and exchange I paid just over 1000k for this coat.
@siatbury583 жыл бұрын
I have two mackinaw cruisers: a large which is perhaps just a little tight if you are layering with a thick jumper. I'm 6'3" and 225lbs I also have a used double Mack which is size 50...I look like a kid in his dad's coat but it is kind of nice to have it hang loose. I find my Filson vest and the Large cruiser is the perfect cold-weather combo. In my part of England -5 C 23 F is as cold as it gets. In truth, the double is probably too warm for UK winters. The surprising thing is how well they cope with rain; I can walk for 1.5 hr in steady rain and stay dry. The coat gets heavy but it also dries quickly at room temperature. They Filson Cruiser is worth every penny ....

If you're 6', 3", 250 lbs. and wear a large, then I think I should get a medium at 5', 9", 200. But I often wear a large in other brands, and the measurements I'm seeing on secondhand sites for Filson larges are in line with coats that fit me.
@garethwilliams9763 жыл бұрын
Had mine a couple of years now and like both the materials and build quality. Also like the design as a classic piece of Americana. Try wearing one on a cold day with a blustery wind and you really do have to keep moving. Please Filson - put another 2 inches of overlap on the front inside and sew up the gap at the cuff end of the sleeve. The look would be the same but the garment much more practical.

Sad thing about Filson is, hipster city boys who grow beards and ware flannel to look manly have watered down the product and drove up the prices.The only lumber they jack is in their pants or the pencil on their desk.
@cameronmcpeak51832 жыл бұрын
Yes and no. There stuffs the same price as its always been (inflation taken into account) the bigger problem in the dip in quality of materials. And foreign made trend line. Id recommend the pro program if your actually working with there products. That way you automatically get 30-40% off most products. Or if one really wants to save buy secondhand.

Nice presentation. Have owned Filson products since the 1980s. The cut has changed over the years with more fullness around the upper body, hips and upper arms. Still own their Shelter Cloth shirts, Cape Coat (size Medium), Mack Cruiser (size 42), Mack Vest (size 42), blaze vest, and dry Tin Cruiser (size 42) along with Double Tin Chaps. It's sad that there's no more numeric sizing and that so much of the Filson catalog is now foreign-made.

No doubt sad to see. But at least they keep there original lineup made in usa.

Are they worth it? Only if you're planning on having a son and then a grandson to bequeath it to. Bought my double Mac about 50 years ago for less than $100, I think they're now over $500, and it is just getting broken in nicely. Also own regular Mac Cruiser and a couples of vests. Each is worth every penny I paid for it. Buy one as soon as you can they will never get any cheaper than they are today, unless of course you have a grandfather who has one and is getting ready to kick the bucket.

Woolrich, Pendleton (who supplies Filson with their cloth), and Filson. Can't go too far wrong with any of them. Vintage versions are even better.

Pemberton supplies Filson with cloth for only about 10% of their product line. Otherwise, Filson gets their wool and down from the Cheng Bodishang factory in China, same as Eddie Bauer, North Face and REI. They literally all come off the same assembly lines.

I have a filson obsession. My favorite is my filson trench coat, the older one made in the US with tin cloth imported from Scotland. I have 3 different weight liners for it. I’ve taken my wife and kids night skiing in it with the 24oz mackinaw wool liner. I wasn’t skiing but was watching. It was down well below 0°f and I was very warm. I live in central Oregon and buy way too much of this stuff.

Filson may be made in the USA but the wool is outsourced from other countries. WeatherWool is everything USA; made and sourced in the USA!
@cameronmcpeak51833 жыл бұрын
For the additional 3-400$ on most products they have Im probably never gonna own something of theres. That being said there clothing looks beautiful! But i have no problem supporting Canada and Scotland (both places Filson uses for materials) by buying there products
@rustyshackleford173 жыл бұрын
The wool comes from the US. But it's either sourced from a mill in Canada (plaid I believe) or from Pendleton (solid colors I believe). Pendleton obviously has a stellar reputation with wool. The mill in Canada is quite good also. WeatherWool could easily be argued that they make a superior product...but they're also double the cost and never in stock. You get the enjoy the experience of a very long wait list.

Just left a review a few minutes earlier and in checking out other postings about Filson I see that they've been bought out. News to me as I bought my last Filson over 30 years ago. That being said I've never known a company being bought out where their product then improved. So my previous comments need to be taken in that context. Might be best to find a used Filson.

Do you know that your Mackinaw Wool Cruiser (the green one) is Seattle fitted? You can recognize them by the red hanging loop. I'm about to buy one second hand. But I'm not sure if I prefer the original Alaska Fit. The Alaska Fit is a bit more roomy, especially around the Stomach. What about you? Is your Cruiser too tight for you? Compared with your other Cruisers in the same size?

Glad you mentioned charts and maps.. That was the original purpose of the rear pocket, as you did not have to crease your maps routinely which rapidly degrades readability. I love the divided pockets on the Mac. vest and jacket, I always have a AAA light and pocket knife with me and often clip them in my shirt pocket. The Harnds "wind" or Cjrb "Ria" are great size for this, and look about finger size and non threatening if seen, but once opened is almost steak knife sized.. So I would love those pockets. I am on a super budget though, and had to save, just to look around for used.. but I am looking at both the vest and jacket in wool. I presume a Double Mackinaw is overkill here in Ca bordering Oregon in the mtns, much heavier and therefore harder to layer with. So.. heres the question for you and viewers- How true to size are they? If I am a 36" chest, will a 36 still fit a sweater and vest under it, and maybe another thin shirt? Or do I go to a 38? If a new Mfg.. a 36 borders XS & S, So I am guessing the 36 is likely to fit a vest and sweater. However I would like to make sure. The way ppl measure online with "pit to pit" sleeve length and height; has let me down a few times. It completely depends on the cuts of those intersections and only the height/ length is truly accurate. I can't try any on local, and not many used gear allows a return.
@cameronmcpeak51833 жыл бұрын
My L is about the size of a 46 chest. My size 48 jacket is just bigger but not as big as a XL would be. The 44 double mack has a 44” but fits the same as the 48 single. Do what you will with this plethora of useful information haha

T brew, I have owned many great Filson products for many yeas now and one of the best things about Filson is their customer service. I have exchanged several articles of clothing that didn't quite fit the way I wanted them to and exchanged them through the mail. I have never had a single problem with exchanges, always first rate customer service and they ship very quickly. The very best thing about Filson is their iron clad warranty, they warrant anything they make against defects for life! One time I had a "tin jacket" that was getting small holes in the forearms (it was over a couple of years old) and when I was on vacation and in Seattle, I stopped in their store and showed it to the people there. The manager looked at it and walked away for a few moments and when he came back he gave me a brand new "tin jacket!" I left that store with several jackets and vests and a slightly bruised credit card but, they made a long time customer of me. Filson's products are expensive but, they are made very well (maybe not quite as well as they were 20-30 years ago) and they hold up extremely well. Remember these are work, extreme outdoor and hunting clothes, they are made to be used hard! I have a few heavy canvass shirts and "double tin pants" that I have had for over 10 years now and I just can't seem to wear them out. Filson will also repair jackets and pants and other items for free if their products did not hold up (used hard, but not abused) as they should have. Their duffle bags and other packs and luggage made from their rugged twill or tin cloth, are exceptional as well and are repairable by Filson for free also. I think Filson's products, with the quality materials they use, the heavy-duty design and their great warranty plus their great customer service, makes their products an exceptional value!

So I'm really considering getting Filson's Single Mackinaw Cruiser. I've come across several comments recently saying in short that: 1) Filson recently got bought out and their quality has since gone downhill while their prices have climbed; 2) that the Mackinaw jacket in particular is not as thick and thus as warm as the same jackets of the past. Any thoughts or personal experience about these 2 comments from anyone? Thanks in advance. And I appreciate your wool clothing reviews!
@cameronmcpeak51833 жыл бұрын
They have been getting thinner the last few years but in my experience 5-6 macks down the road. I would really only be shopping second hand for mackinaw cruisers. This way your saving 2-300$ and getting a garment that depending on the year will be a bit better quality than new stuff. But second hand shopping isn’t for everyone.

I have a 2019 single mack. I cannot find any quality faults with what I have (however, I have no comparisons to previous generations). I bought mine when they were at $390 and love it to death. A bit on the higher end of what I would be willing to pay, but going to be well worth the money. With it being $500, I would have some reservations.

Hey sir, thanks for the review. I’m thinking about buying a coat and I found a used vintage one on eBay. I’m a bigger guy about your size and I’m scared the sleeves will be to short. The size being offered on eBay is a 48. Do you think the sleeve length will work ? Thanks !
@cameronmcpeak51832 жыл бұрын
The green mack here is a L and the sleeves are just fine on me. I also was blessed with an orangutans arms. Only filson items iv had problems with are some older tin cloth hunting clothes with shorter sleeves to decrease firearm clutter (if that makes any sense) and with really old 50’s-60’s Filson wool.
