Final Fantasy 9 - The Battle Of Alexandria

Alexandria was looking forward to a new queen being crowned until Kuja returned and summoned Bahamut to lay seige to the town. Dagger and Eiko respond by summoning Alenander to defend Alexandria castle. Alexander defeats Bahamut causing Kuja to try and use the Invincible to possess Alexander much like he did with Bahamut, however this time his plans are stopped by Garland who takes over control of the Invincible stating he will no longer tolerate the actions of Zidane and Kuja. Garland destroys Alexander with the Invincible before destroying Alexandria completely. Thanks for watching.

Ff16 actually seems similar in scale to this cutscene, two power summons fighting against each other and everything in a more medieval tone

+amarait2 First time I played the game after watching the scene where the Invincible destroys the town I thought it was awesome. Didn't realise until much later (when you try and find Dagger) that the damage wasn't anywhere near as bad as it looked in that cutscene. Major let down.

I lowkey felt bad for Alexander dying loll. Amazing to see Alexandria survive that blast. Cleyra had it worst out all the major kingdoms getting destroyed in the game

Oh Cleyra! It was so beautiful! I think the reason it was completely obliterated is because Brane used Odin to kill the tree Cleyra was built in. Though as far as lore goes Esto Gaza and Conde Petie also get completely obliterated by the roots of the liar Tree on Disc 4.

I was gonna say.....Are we just not going to talk about the fact that the invincible airship basically destroys Alexandria castle and the whole city directly as if he just dropped the Tsar Bomba nuclear bomb right on it? Literally how did the main cast survive? The parody of this video game callee it out on that. Like Alexandria basically gets nuked and no one questions how the main characters survived.

While the battle of the two esper is amazing, when i hear garland's theme, read his speech and then watch him effortlessly destroy the mightiest Esper, almost kill kuja, our heroes and turn an entire city into a Ruin in one Single attack... i get chills. It establishes so much dread and despair, on a Level almost unmatched in any other game i have ever played.

Something I noticed about the cinematics is that while they are awesome, they frequently go a little overboard and don't match what we see in-game. For example, at the very beginning of the game when the theater ship crashes in the forest, it looks like it goes up in a huge ball of flames like a freaking jet fully loaded with fuel, but then in-game we see it's mostly just broken up. Bahamut completely obliterates Brahne's ship in an instant, but in-game she somehow managed to reach her escape pod (though she's badly hurt). At the end of the game, Zidane appears to get aggressively crushed by roots, and yet he somehow survives. And of course here, where Alexandria appears to be utterly incinerated, yet in-game the damage appears to be relatively tame.
