Does anyone realize that this, despite being a Chinese bootleg, is one of the most complex NES games program-wise? I mean, wow... to contain the entire story on the cartridge, and retain some of the sound effects in high-quality DPCM samples is... admirable, to say the very least.

Had Nintendo not scrapped the plan with Sony to make a CD unit for the SNES, FF7 may well have been on a SNES based console. Sony's PS1 was the direct result of that parting of ways.

Take any story-driven game. Strip away the graphics and make it 8-bit. If the game is still good: You got a good game. If the game looses all its interesting aspects: You got a modern game.

Thats dumb. Arbitrarily take away any part of any game and it could potentially be bad. Ill never get this argument. Take away that part of the game and its not that game anymore, so acting like its a bad game because it would be bad without something that is in fact a part of that game is stupid. Also stripping it down to 8 bit wont only affect the graphics, it greatly limits what you can make with a video game.

I started the ps1 version a few months ago, and I was confused at why I couldn't beat this boss. Then I decided to look it up, and it's supposed to be "don't attack while its tail's up", as it's a mistake that tells you misinformation and makes the boss practically impossible.

This version is not literally an NES game. It is designed to seem like an 8-bit NES game much like Megaman 9 and 10.

Not quite right. This game is a translated version of a Chinese bootleg ff7. The bootleg scene was big in China because of governmental regulations of console gaming.

also who can ever forget about sephiroth's destruction of nibelheim and his awesome walk through the fire..u wouldn't be able to see any of that on this and scenes like that have a lot to do with what set FF7's mood and what made it special

This is something I've always wanted. 8 bit, or 16 bit versions of the best RPGs of the last 20 years. Imagine if they did an 8, or 16 bit Skyrim!

Beautiful! It's sad that sometimes fan-remakes are better than originals (not in this case), but with Sonic games and such. The fan-games are better than the actual Sonic games by the creators. I love this 8-bit rendition :)

This looks better than the other FFVII NES remake I saw. Some areas in the other one was just harsh and ugly to look at and the character models were blah.

Character sprites u mean, not models. Models mean 3d cgi type figures like the original game on PS1. 2d games have sprites. This is the second time this week I’ve seen this misconception in a youtube comment, I guess it must be pretty common.

In the original there's a "Restore" Materia right in front of the area where you set the bomb. It's certainly possible to have Cure available before Guard Scorpion.

The remake isn't out yet, and if you're referring to the port of FFVII to the PS4, it's not a remake. It's a port. Also, if you like classic RPGs, I can see why you might think it's better.

Not to me too anal but the first 2 enemies that ambush Cloud are "MP's" not "Ex-Soldiers." Ex-Soldier is Clouds name until you set it to what you want.
