A look at the exterior before I glue the top down.

Thank you! These builds are always fun and a learning experience for me. I'm not an old pro like some out there...;-)

All that Irwin Allen stuff is like a backdrop to my youth in the 60's and 70's.

Those shows had their good and bad. Loved the FX and production design, etc. Lost in Space started off as a more serious sci-fi series and then went total camp.

I never liked the figures of the cast in the interior but in this case - Wow! they really look good. Great job on the whole thing.
@planetpopvideos44183 ай бұрын
Thanks! Not sure what you mean though. The kit itself doesn't come with figures at all. Mine are 3D printed from Shapeways -- third party. But that aside, to me, figures from some source -- if to scale with the kit -- were a must.

The size of the Jupiter 2 I thought was way too small to have 2 decks, storage space for space pod, and chariot, engine room, and area for landing gears.
@planetpopvideos44186 ай бұрын
Definitely! The chariot might have been a kit vehicle that could be assembled on-planet, but even if so...no, the rest of that would not fit. That thing is like a Tardis inside. Lol

Loved this show as a kid and I always wondered the same thing.
@planetpopvideos44185 ай бұрын
@johncato4412 It's been a source of discussion among fans for years, I think. The fact is, Irwin Allen didn't put that much thought into his shows. LOL! Another fan question is how did the flying sub fit inside the Seaview (with the bridge) on Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea.
@alexrebmann12534 ай бұрын
@@planetpopvideos4418 I always wandered about the torpedo room on Seaview. TV series showed it in the missile room behind the sail. Did the tubes run the length of the sub and hanger for flying sub was in the way.

Sweet! Although too bad the spinning motor is so noisy! I SAw the video of reforming the original Jupiter 12 , in which he was able to the exact clockwork mechanical mechanism with variable lighting from the show but it was TOTALLY SILENT he mounted it on a thin rubber sheet and it looks perfect! Look up restoring the Jupiter 12
@planetpopvideos44188 ай бұрын
Yeah, I always say there are better models than mine out there. I'm not trying to compete with anyone and every build is a new (almost) learning experience. I'm not sure if the model you saw was the same kit (or a restoration of the original visual effects model -- which probably didnt have motorized control panels in the model itself as mine does) or what, but again, I would have needed quieter motors for this -- OR a good way to soundproof it. But trust me, just mounting those motors was a big pain in the ass. So, yeah...the motors are louder than I'd like but it's ok. IF I ever have to work with motors again, I'll take the lessons learned from this build and do better next time. LOL!
@planetpopvideos44188 ай бұрын
And also keep in mind the motors are in the main control panel -- NOT the fusion core! The motors are spinning graphics for the radar screens and there are 3 of them.

Hi RG! And thank you!! had three sources: 1.) Model and light kits: hdamodelworx.com/Lost-in-Space-Jupiter-2-Lighting-Kit-for-the-Moebius-J2-plastic-model-kit-by-Moebius-Models_p_176.html hdamodelworx.com/LOST-IN-SPACE-JUPITER-2-50th-ANNIVERSARY-135-SCALE-MODEL-KIT_p_179.html I also used the Paragrafix photoetch parts: hdamodelworx.com/Jupiter-2-Photoetch-and-Decal-Set-by-Paragrafix-for-Moebius-Models-kit-913_p_213.html I also used a third party light kit for the circuit wall: hdamodelworx.com/Circuit-Wall-EnhancementReplacement-Kit-for-Moebius-Models-18-Jupiter-2%E2%84%A2-by-FEDORATRON_p_900.html Note -- The circuit wall lighting runs at 9v power. The Polar Lights light kit runs at 5.7v. So you will have to buy a stepper board that will boost the power for the circuit wall. I bought mine at an electronic parts store. The board was around $10. Again, radar motors are not provided. You'll be on your own to get those and add them in if you want to. The Polar Lights lighting kit only provides Lights for the radar screens. You will end up having to add LEDs or SMDs if you want all the wall panel buttons to light up. Those are not included in the light kit. My point is, if you want complete accuracy, you will have to add some things yourself. HDA Modelworx is an outstanding dealer and you can get additional LEDs and SMDs from them. They also have some LIS figures, although these were not available when I built my model. (Mine cane from a 3D printing company -- www.shapeways.com. You will need the 1/35 scale figures if you buy from them): hdamodelworx.com/search.asp?keyword=Jupiter+2&sortby=0&page=2&catid= If you want sound, you'd have to add a recordable sound chip and wire that into your system. That is separate too. You can order those on Amazon. Oh -- and that would run off the main power supply at 5 7v. Hope this helps! :-)

Do you or would you build one like this for sale?
@planetpopvideos44182 ай бұрын
I could, but it wouldn't be cheap by the time you add up all the supplies and time to build it. Mine was expensive to build. Not everything you need comes in the box. There's a lot of third party stuff that goes into building one like mine. BUT -- if I DID build another one, it would be better than mine because I learned some things as I was building this.

I don't build on commission. Some do, but they aren't cheap.
@planetpopvideos44186 ай бұрын
I think Boyd on the Trekworks channel here on KZfaq still does commissioned builds -- you might ask him for an estimate. Although you would have to tell him if you want the radar motors and added lights if you want them. They are not included in the basic light kit from Polar Lights. Same is true if you want the Paragrafix photoetch replacement parts and the Fedoratron circuit wall. I did a lot of customizing when I built mine. And I don't think he lights ALL the lighted panels on the ship like I did. And you'd have to tell him if you wanted to add sound. I have not seen that he ever adds sound to his builds.
