Last ride in France which brings our PBP trip to an end, I absolutely loved the adventure, despite being in a bit of pain some of the time, I have loads of happy memories to come home with and I'm already looking forward to it's return in 2027.
Thank you SO much for watching, if you can spare a second to hit subscribe with your pinky that would be awesome.

I want to say that these 2 'coming home' videos were some of my favorites. I loved seeing the whole gang of characters and the authentic, raw feel from everyone after such an epic ride. Nigel is a riot. I'm guessing he doesn't like being on camera much and probably gives you grief about it, but he's a natural and very quick witted. So glad you found such a great cycling club, and that we get to watch bits of pieces of it.

I very much enjoyed watching your two videos regarding your ride at PBP. And I enjoyed watching the two videos you posted regarding your bike ride to the ferry that will take you home afterwards. I was also impressed with the time you pulled off, i.e., 72 hours or so. I've never ridden PBP, and I don't really have any desire to do it since I live in the United States. But I have successfully completed three grand brevets, one a year, between 2017 and 2019. The grand brevet I rode in 2017 had me complaining about my raw backside EXACTLY the way you complained in the last 3 videos of the four that I watched. The secret to not beating up your backside during a long ride is twofold. One, you need a saddle that will maximize the number of contact points between you and the saddle. That translates into a wider saddle with much cushion. You especially want your buns to support some of your weight on the saddle. You don't want all of the weight resting on the area between your buns. Don't worry about extra weight such a saddle will have. The more contact points there are, then the less likely any one point will cause excessive pressure and eventually a saddle sore. And two, you need to pull back on the intensity of the ride. The higher the intensity in your ride, then the more excessive pressure you will create between you and the saddle. I'm not suggesting that you pull back so much that the ride is a leisurely jaunt. But pull back some so you are not racing through the ride. If you do these two things you should not be faced with the pain you were complaining about. Keep in mind that pulling back on the intensity might very well cause you to ride slower in the short term. But I'm sure you lost a bunch of time in the later stages of the ride due to saddle sores and the like. If you pace yourself correctly, then you will more than likely finish PBP the next even quicker with much less pain. Good luck!

Great ending! Different anatomy etc etc, but I switched to Rapha shorts (not bib-shorts - although obviously they do those to) and I've noticed a huge difference in comfort levels. This after PBP in 2019 where I also rode PBP and there and back from Oxford. At Reading I almost got the train (as I was in so much pain), but treated myself to an ice-cream and rode the final distance back to my door. I've mentioned this to others too and they have also rated Rapha shorts.

Heads up for an amazing creme to prevent sores I got from running bear in the Peak District. "Slipstream anti chafe". I'm just back from a tour of Wales in the heat wave. Normally suffer sores on a week long tour especially with heat and climbs using the usual chamois creams - but had zero this time using this new creme. Skin even feels better than normal. Only need a small amount and it leaves no white marks. Used on hands and feet too and no sores there! Very impressed. Was recommended it by Katie Kookaburra who also swears by it.
