I'll be doing all of my full build projects this way from now on, posting progress videos on Patreon and then putting them all together when it's finished to post here. This takes a bit of the video editing load off of me, since I'm doing smaller pieces as they happen, instead of one big long one at the end.
How I made the twin screw gear connected vise:
• Making this Twin Screw...
Get the plans for the gear vise:
ibuildit.ca/plans/twin-screw-...
Plans for the drill press table:
ibuildit.ca/plans/drill-press...
Drill press table build video:
• Make This Simple Drill...
The biggest thing I hated about my drill press was manually cranking the table up and down. The rack that makes that happen bent and wouldn't work right again after that, plus it's quite a reach around with a wooden table installed.
The motorized lift was salvaged from an old reclining chair I took apart years ago (you can watch that here: • Reclining Chair Tear-D... ) and is perfect for powering the table up and down.
As for the vise, the idea occured to me while doing another project that it would be great for drilling into the ends of shorter stock, or for holding small parts while drilling. Since I wasn't using my twin screw vise where it was, I decided to use that. BUT a simple moxon vise would work as well.
So, what's up with the split personality? Am I losing my mind?
Maybe. But after 12 years straight of making videos, I need something interesting to keep me engaged.
Doing this came to me when I thought about the changes I'd already made, and how I'd have to undo them to go ahead with this upgrade. So I had one of my typical pros and cons conversations with myself and thought it would be neat to act it out on video.
Will I do it again? Maybe, but it's harder than it looks and I can see myself skipping it because of that and how long it takes to film and edit.

Might be a good idea to have an even number of gears - that way, the two levers would turn in a counter-rotating direction, and parasitic torques on the table could be made zero. The middle-gears need not all be the same size, that may help with the centering.

I think the vertically mounted CNC was the most useful part. Certainly a cool project, I just think there are too many places where things can get misaligned a degree or two so the holes aren't vertical anymore. Still, I loved the video, the effects and the editing!

Love the format of the video also. I had already viewed each of the five chapters, as it were, then got to enjoy the clever madness play out in all its glory. You did a nice job with being in two places at once and of course the final product rocks as per your usual magic. Thanks as always for sharing however you want.

Like it , and the one on a vice . I put a similar table on mine without the stops but used a fence off an old drop/miter saw as a fence and attached it one side so can adjust it to any size wood . Give your " alter ego " the job ,see how he goes . should do more about lifting heavy blocks . I think egyptians uses shafts filled with water and locks and pulleys .

Great video John. I acctually liked the alter ego part, espesially used to explain a bit of the process. I have a coupple of actuators I got a hold of and was planning to make a racking wise for my new workbench with them. But now with this video, I got more instpiration because I also recently accuired the electronics from an old "hospital" bed, it has a long actuator for lifting the entire bed and three more for the other functions. It might be a possibillity that I now have plans for a drillpress table with all three axis motorized.
