Finally, Alt Bars That Can REPLACE My Drop Bars!

I'm a drop bar guy, but I finally found a handlebar that rivals my drop bars in terms of comfort, hand positions, speed, and fun. Here's what I think about the Velo Orange Granola Moose handlebars for town and off road riding.

What would set the use of these bars apart from any other bar is that it would be mandatory to wear a newsboy caps paired with a tweed jacket and you use "swell" to describe your mood.

I dig VO's tall stems. Their Happy stem and the Cigne. I use 4 of them now with various dirt drops. All my bikes eventually land up on dirt roads or trails. I put Surly Corner bars on my hardtail and love 'em.

I bought some of the silver ones when they were on sale (not as big of a sale as this though!) a few months ago just to add to my parts pile, without thinking of how I’d use them. Then a month ago I picked up a nice yellow Apollo vintage fixed gear conversion to add to my quiver and swap stick the Granola Moose bars on there. Perfect match. Love them for exactly the reasons you described. I don’t think I would like them as much on any of my non-fixed gear bikes though.

The wrist angle is what helps me most, for long rides. I lived on the coast road in SoCal and watched probably 100s of riders go by each day. No one was in the drops. There is something about passing spandex (comfortably) holding a $12 Wald 8095.

Maybe wrap the entire bar with handlebar tape so you have cushion everywhere🤷🏼

and then some extensions beneath so you can get more aero... and some vertical brake levers, because that would be more comfortable. Oh wait I just created drop bars💀

@@FerrichromeGood thing even most road/gravel riders don't use the drops because they are too stretched and most people are not pro cyclist. What matters the most is comfort and control for most people, and you will have a lot more control with most flat/alt bars just because they are much wider and the angle is better.

@@b0kix953 oh for sure I’m just trolling. FWIW, I am not competitive at all but I’d say I use my drops about 10-20% of the time. Sure it’s not much but that change in position is nice on long rides

Are Alt bars a Dad thing ? They might be. I love alt bars, I love the different look. And the majority of Alt bars are designed around comfort. Straight bars and Drop bars have there place. But as ive gotten older im apreciating the comfort bars way more.
