You're not reaching. You know what's crazy but, not surprising? The bachata song made it to Spanish charts. I BET no bachata from a Puerto Rican artist has reached Spanish charts. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I doubt it. Enrique Iglesias also didn't get enough talk on this topic and probs paved the way. People can make all sorts of music. The issue is when they take spaces from local artists and the industry treats them better than local artists. The Spanish music industry used to hate reggaeton and Latin music, never used to play it in the main radio stations. Now they play it all day long. It's all about money.

I wouldn’t consider Michelle Colon an afro latina, yes she is definitely partially of african descent, but the afro latina movement was created for people that are mainly of african descent and look phenotypically mainly african. Yes I’m sure experienced racism based on being of african descent, but that does not make her a black woman. I wish a latina who looks clearly african would finally win something like this and not just someone with darker skin, because the problem is, if mixed women like Michelle become the face of afro latinidad, they are erasing those latinos who are not excepted by society in most latin american countries. Remember when Clauvid Daly Miss Dominican Republic? People dragged her because she does not racially ambiguous and is clearly a black woman

Y no nos olvidemos que Rosalía, tanto como al principio como ahora, se aprovecha de la cultura de otros, siendo el problema principal que ella infravalora la visión y el mensaje de las culturas a las que copia l amusica, la estética, etc: en España se la crítica por no respetar la cultura calé o gitana, pueblo originario y creador del flamenco, es más cuando se le ha llamado la atención por ello, su respuesta fue decir "que la cultura es de todxs" y vetar ciertas preguntas. Se aprovecha de otras culturas pero no da voz ni reconocimiento a la gente ni a los pueblos que debe, es decir, racista encubierta. Based on my own experience - I noticed when Zumba got popular, many people claimed "Latina". I can definitely relate to Miss Universe Puerto Rico Michelle Marie Colon growing up as an Afro-Latina. I am so proud of her. I remember black and brown girls being teased about their skin color, hair (I hate the words "pelo mal" to this day. Whew that just triggered me!), behinds/butts, noses, and now people are paying for these things to look exactly the way the teased and bullied girls did. Romeo or Aventura singing "La Fama" would have been especially nice :). Thanks so much for the amazing rant.

Rosalia has never said she was Latina, she introduced herself as a Spaniard Catalonia woman with her first and second album. Also she was never on Latina magazine, she was on the cover of Vogue Mexico and THEY called her a Latin music artist. Rosalia has made flamenco music and non-flamenco music, non-flamenco music falls under the Latin music category because these award ceremonies do not have a category called “Best Spaniard artist song.” I mean have you or anyone else said anything about Enrique iglesias, David Bisbal, Alejandro Sanz, Miguel Bosé etc. Or artists like shakira, maluma, and Ricky Martin who’s parents are from Spain and they just happen to be born in a Latin American country? They all have won in Latin music categories for non flamenco bc there is no where else to place them. Also, Rosalia has always showed love and interest for Urban Latin music even before she launched albums, in Barcelona they mostly listen to Latin American music, it’s in every club. So her interest in our music is only normal. Her music is also more experimental and not so much cookie cutter music generated by a machine as you said. I respect more that she goes out of her way to feature less mainstream artists like Tokischa, Sech, Anuel AA, and even Ozuna who was not well known with Non-Hispanic American audiences. Also, it’s not like there’s a plethora of Spaniard women artists taking space from other Latin female artists, Rosalia is only one person….. Anyways I just think that we should be careful of accusing people of taking space from us without knowing more about them then what you see on the surface.
