About your question: Taino would definitely be under Native American. You are not wrong about your ancestry. The 37% African ancestry is not surprising to me about you from your appearance either. It's so sad that many Americans of African descent don't understand that Caribeans and even all of the Americas ( inc. Cental & South) have African ancestry because of the African Diaspora and the intermixing during slavery. In the states, we have a similar mixture with the exception of different Native mixture, for example, Cherokee rather than Taino. But being mixed with European along with our African roots is the same. Thanks for sharing your results. I took my test on Ancestry, so hearing how another company explains ancestry is interesting.

It's believed that all modern humans got their start in what's now called Africa (Adam & Eve done got kicked out of the Garden of Eden & ended up in Africa where they started making babes with all of the sons inheriting a Y chromosome from dad, & all of the children, regardless of their gender, inheriting mitrochondria from mom - which would all come in handy later on for paternal-line & maternal-line haplogroup tests, respectively 😁). Both paternal & maternal haplogroups infrequently changed over time - often after remaining the same over several hundreds or even many thousands of years; so, over the eons some new haplogroups emerged (& many folk migrated over vast distances while some others barely moved at all during all of these many years, so the various haplogroup changes/mutations happened in various places across the world as well as in Africa). Maternal haplogroup A is believed to have been likely formed in what's now called East Asia & it spread out in several directions from there; &, it's a common haplogroup for American Indian tribes (this is why AdMix American & Eastern Asian DNA results are often grouped together by DNA-testing companies; &, when not grouped together, a company rep will likely tell you to add the two together to get your Native American percentage, because all such tribes sprang from those far-travelling Asians whose haplogroup developed subclaves or sub-divisions as noted by letters & numbers added onto the "A" - like A2a). Paternal Haplogroup R is believed to have likely been formed in or near the area now called Kazakistan (sp?) & from there moved out in several directions, 2 of which went into what's now called Europe (& of the remainder, one actually went back into Africa - & made some Pharaohs, like old King Tut 😁). Two common haologroup R changes are haplogroups R1a & R1b (sometimes the 1 is left out as if understood when a specific sub-division is referred to like R-BY4114 which is from R1b). R1b made its way into Spain & Portugal as well as into Ireland, England, & elsewhere before coming to the Americas - & somewhere along the way these once supposedly Black African folk faded to become Pale-Skin White folk 😁 (go figure, eh? 🤔... but YHWH our God knows what He's doing, so no complaints). ✝️😎👍

Perhaps because the colonizers were male, spreading the Y chromosomes, and mixing with Black, native, and mulatto females.

I am Puerto Rican creole. I started using the old term because we are not monolithic. One may look at me and think I’m white but I counted 7 flags in my geneology research. I found my ancestors and I know where they come from. I’m taking the ancestry test to get the percentages because even though fam is from Canary Islands we aren’t told that the first settlers were indigenous Canadians known as GUANCHE, so we all have both the indigenous and the later Spanish Portuguese and other colonists that took over the archipelago. The guanche was most like the Berber/amazigh people. So while the percentages show “Spain” it’s because the dna companies designate Canarians as Spanish. Also…another interesting facts is some of our ancestors came through Louisiana, as they settled from the canaries to Spanish Louisiana to get the sugar cane industry started. We BROUGHT SUGAR TO THE WORLD. We are jibaros, we are mulattoes, we are creole, we are pardo, we are mestizo, we are indigenous and we are European. We are everything. Un poco de todo. Wepa. Please do Spanish content I am working on my Spanish as we speak in el campo is considered poor and I am laughed at a lot because I sound “ignorant” you seem Educated we were from the forest side of Puerto Rico in Rincon. Love you sister. ❤❤❤❤
