Three weeks ago, one of my amano shrimp berried. Panicking, I search through the internet to learn as much as I can about them. That's when I found your video. I've learn so much in such a short period of time, allowing me to hunt down what I need and set up the spawn tank and salt water tank. My first spawn is now 4 days old, and 2 more batch of eggs incoming. Hopefully it goes well and they grow up healthy. Thank you.

I got 4 amano shrimp two years ago an they're all still doing great. Two males and two females, who I see berried all the time. I've even caught them dropping their eggs twice. I didn't realize they hatch right away, I thought they needed salt to hatch at all. Very informative, and it looks like the salt reader is the only piece of actual equipment I'd be missing if I wanted to try breeding.

These videos have really helped me out! I have my fourth batch and finally got them to fresh water! Three failed batches, but slightly changed the set up each time according to recommendations you talked about. I’m still slowly moving new morphed shrimplets, but the first to be moved are nearly a week old and thriving. Very excited! My conclusion: you aren’t doing the hobby right if visitors aren’t questioning you about possibly having some kind of illegal lab set up. I have bubbling green, glowing bottles (plankton), oddly placed lights, many small storage cups, pipets, bubbling bottles with odd specs (rotifers) and all the tubing running across the room 😂 it has been quite the journey.

I watched your long version presentation and started to breed the amano shrimp. It is very helpful! But I lost my first batch because of bacteria attack around day 10. Now I’m trying my second time with a new batch, I am now using a salt water tank with better filter system with cloth on the inflow to prevent them being sucked to the filter. Hope this time will be better!

Nice video. I can imagine the hard work you put in to show this magnificent results. I have experience breeding betta, guppy, cherry shrimp and I've tried to breed amano shrimp a few times in 2014 but failed miserably every time. The amano babies always survive for 3-5 days after I transfer them into salt water and then suddenly they just all died off. I was suspecting the water quality and food source were the main culprit for the sudden crash. Soon after that I get too busy with life and gave up fishkeeping completely until I started a planted tank again this year. KZfaq algorithm brought me to your channel while I was researching about pet shrimps and your video really make me want to challenge breeding amano shrimp again. May be I will also use your method for some other brackish water species such as nerite snail and bamboo shrimp when I get the chance.

30g of salt in 1 liter freshwater will get you to the concentration you need, and if you get rotifers from Carolina biological they send you tetraselmis to feed in a separate tube (even a single rotifer will completely comsume a colony of phyto). You can start from there and see how this changes things

Im attempting this process starting tonight. My amano had eggs for 30 days. I put her in a clear salad mixing bowl tonight and have bubbler going full blast. She has been hugging the bubbler rock all evening. I bought 2 gallons of saltwater from l.f.s. and a 5gal tank. Tomorrow i will buy live phytoplankton from l.f.s. and 3 more gallons saltwater and get them to squeeze a filter sponge into a bag for me. Fingers crossed. Also, my lfs said they dont have that organizm u said to feed them after the phytoplankton. None of the lfs's around me have it. What should i substitute with if these make it that far? @@kmlumd44 rotifers can be ordered through Carolina biological - brachionus rotifers come with a tube of tetraselmis (aka platymonas). The sperm looking organisms, if you found them in the releasing tank with the female Amano shrimp and eggs, is the live babies. The eggs should look clear or gray not green. Not much different than culturing brine shrimp but it is too much of a hassle, have you tried simply keeping the adult shrimps in brackish water with some algae and see if any baby shrimp manage to survive? I'm sure it won't be anywhere near as productive as this intensive method but a few shrimplets once in a while would be pretty good for much less effort.

Wondering if they dont like my tetraselmis sueccica that I feed them every other day with my own grown plankton from the refrigerator. Or do the bacteria take over and kill them? 1st 50% water change after 7 days and another after 14. Keeping the container in a darker part of the room and have not given any extra light for plankton. Do you know how long Amano can last in the saltwater after their last morph? I am asking because I have them from two females in one tank, the first batch is going to morph in a few days and it would be easiest for me to wait for them all to grow and keep changing the water to non-salty on the entire tank. Yet that would mean they would need to be able to keep in salt water for +- 3 weeks. Not sure if that's going to happen.

@@farty1940 no, they should both be very dark for mature cultures. tetra can’t compete as well as nanno and grow slower so I try to culture them separately, but almost always accidentally cross contaminate. You should increase your light strength or add more fertilizer than normal. Then wait a few extra days than usual to see the mature culture

Hi @@AvatarAquatics , do you have any tips to spotting/catching the morphed amano shrimps ready to be transitioned to freshwater? I have trouble seeing through the water and I do not have rotifers to help clear up the phytoplankton to increase visibility

Question, im in seattle for the weekend and i could bring ocean water home, but my amano just got eggs so she wont be ready to force eject them for 19 more days. Do u think the ocean saltwater will be good enough for the hatchlings even after its sitting around for 18 days at my house in a 2 liter??

Hey i just put my amano in the 2 liter w bubbles. I got saltwater ready. So when she sheds the eggs do they hatch instantly or do i wait for them to hatch before putting em in saltwater? Also, i ended up buying saltwater from a fish store but the water isnt cycled. Will that be okay?
@AvatarAquatics
@AvatarAquatics 3 ай бұрын
if you're early there will be a mix of hatched eggs and unhatched eggs when she sheds them from under her. uncycled is mostly what I use

I am trying exactly like you say, 3 days ago, i replaced half of the water of my 20l breeding tank with freshly mineralised osmosis water but the shrimp mamas just keep hiding under the coconut with their eggs with them. Seems like i have to wait for them to release the eggs by themselves. Any suggestions?

Need to get a baseline of how long it takes to release babies, usually 14-17 days after berried.

@@AvatarAquatics at the moment I am growing my 4th batch of Amano zoes and this time they have succeeded to live 2 weeks. Started with around 30 zoes and now counting just 4. Yesterday did a larger water change, added tetraselmis and food for plankton. After that population seems to have crashed. Day before that there was 12 zoes. That brings me to my question - how much food do you give to plankton when giving only 1-2h of light a day? May too much f2 affect amanos? I use a f2 solution ordered from amazon and been succesfully growing plankton with that.

@@Eestieluseneses there is a high attrition rate regardlsss of if you “did everything right”. But in my opinion, you should bump up the light to 12-16 hours a day or LED plant light(not sun). I don’t add ferts directly into the tank, but I do use it for my phyto. Happy Thanksgiving!

@@Eestieluseneses oh, I usually have a separate bottle to grow phyto in where I add a lot of fertilizer. Then when I am ready to set up my zoe tank, I pour in a bottle of that, usually a mature culture that is rich green and still have some ferts inside. Once they are in the tank, they will consume the nutrients the zoeas generate, but I ~generally- don’t add more ferts. I have before and it has worked, and I used miraclegro water soluble fertilizer instead of f/2 and I find that it works just as well
