Literally cried watching you run again, Lionel. Also, your comments on treadmill running were so insightful. As I age, I find that I run mainly on the treadmill to preserve my joints. Again, thanks for sharing your life with us.

Thanks for the transparency and for being such a great source of motivation and inspiration and ambassador of the sport!

L. Have you considered the Alter-G treadmill, it's amazing if you want to run and manage the impact the body gets when pounding. I have been using for now three years and never run on the road yet racing half and full Ironman. It lift your body and let you manage the level of weight. Check it out. Good luck, Giuseppe

By definition, a fracture from a standing height is osteoporosis. Since you are unlikely to have osteoporosis your sacral fracture after your fall was due to weakened bone, ie. overtraining.

I’ll likely never do an iron man haha but I’m interested in maybe doing some local triathlons just for something different and improve overall fitness. I generally train weightlifting/ powerlifting and strongman. Would it not benefit a triathlete to train squats and deadlifts and build up that muscle around the keens and hips to help prevent injuries?

Hello mr. Sanders. Quick question here:” As I am a runner with the form of a duck out of water, I can’t help wondering wether the running in front of a mirror wasn’t the essential thing for your running prowess in 2013/14?” Obviously you can’t carry a mirror when running outside... I tried running in front of a mirror too and I saw a duck....trying to improve the waddle though

Ha...! A fellow treadmill disciple...lol... All of my best competitive times (road and mountain) have come off the back of long treadmill stints... not least because there are no uncontrollable variables on the treadmill- wind/rain etc- thus, precise speed adjustments and micro stress adjustments can be made... A wonderful tool for tempo runs, speed reps, long-runs, long hill-climbs without the crashing descents..... in fact just about any type of running workout...
@blastedpotato
@blastedpotato 3 жыл бұрын
Personally I used to think that way but it gave me a false sense of confidence. My form would become efficient for the treadmill and my body would become weaker to elements and when I’d hit the road I’d be slower than what my treadmill workouts indicated.

Interesting 1:33 'potentially over training leading to the weakening of the bone', this is a hugely significant statement, sadly very characteristic of Lionel. He overtrained in the run up to kona, he said he'd learn from that experience, yet now 9 months on he's admitting over training might have caused the weakening of the bones. I'll say again what I said before, get a coach.

@mathieunorry 5 жыл бұрын
@@TalbotCoxMedia I presume you meant 'without' a coach. I don't see Alistair or Gwen or Flora doing a full ironman in training just prior to Kona. As a fan and an observer Lionel seems to be predisposed to over training, he's addicted to the process. If he wins Kona I'll shut my mouth but until then I will suggest he needs a coach to save him from his natural instincts.

It is a jog for most advanced runners. Id say if you run a 5k under 17minutes it’s a straight up jog for ya. (It most definitely is for me according to heart rate and perceived exertion and any slower feels unnatural)

@sammyjfleisch4675
@sammyjfleisch4675 5 жыл бұрын
VIQID44 with triathletes it’s hard because their hip muscles get used to so much time in a tight position on the bike, but you are right, his heel strike is most likely what caused the injury. He’s lucky he hasn’t had any knee, shin, or foot injuries. I guess all the force is going to his back resulting in the fracture.

So here we go again with the exclusive in-door training bullshit? I get it as an therapeutic type run cause it's easier on the joints and u need to ease back into things. but not running outside anymore cause u had good results from it in 2013? com'on man, I hope u'r smarter than this. Good luck
