FINALLY burning our own FIRE WOOD | Sustainable Energy | Off grid Abandoned Land

We're slowly finding out how to live more sustainably, and we've been heating the house on cold nights with our own fire wood from the land.
3 years ago we bought a finca in Spain with about 200 olive trees. They were cut to the base and sold for firewood several years before we bought it, but they are growing back fiercely and in dire need of a lot of love and attention. This week we tend to the trees some more, and are finally able to make use of some of the old branches by heating our home for free.

We're Danny and Kate. In 2015 we moved from the UK to Barcelona, and after 8 years enjoying the busy city and sunny beaches we moved to the mountains to start a new adventure. We'll be renovating a town house, building an off grid cabin, restoring an old stone house and farming 12.5 acres of land with regenerative agriculture and permaculture practices in Catalunya, Spain.

Bring the ashes back to the farm, if you can, and fertilice with them

You should take a small vagon and put bike wheels on them, or wider versions of bike wheels, and make a it as a transport vagon for the woodchipper

Ye I have seen some people do this, but I don’t know how to weld… yet. Thinking of ratchet strapping it in the wheel barrow to get from a to b for now.

Make swells/ditches, and put down drange pipes under the road down the hillside, will buy you some time/cost

if You think, rocks only last on the land...they are inside...and always return...there are landscapes, they took the rocks out since 1000s of years... better, You put on compost, by time...the plants will grow if they get the right substances... some need the rocks

Hi 👋 Yes our neighbour has said the same. The one we left only three on at the start has not been growing very strong the two years afterwards. Now I’m leaving the main ones for the first big cut then I will trim them down to three branches next year or the year afterwards. Well that’s the plan 😅

Hi, love to watch, keep up the good work, I also live in Spain, doing things on my land. I might have to stop having fires & do chipping like you do. Where is your chipper from? And approx price?

Hi, glad to have you along for the ride 😊 the chipper was from the UK, a forester master I think. It was around 400-500€, not cheapest, but also not the top end. It’s been good, the only issue is getting it about on the uneven ground
