Finally revealed when the Royal Navy's Type 45 destroyers are getting the ferocious missile upgrade
Citing from the Portsmouth live website, The Sea Viper Missile system on Type 45 destroyers will be getting enhanced, with the MoD investing £405m into the project. These weapons have been previously used to tackle various threats.

Beancounters, the fit out of the type 45 was cut to save money, as was the number, 12 were originally planned.

@paulhill1665 It's clear money is being pocketed by people and not spent on industry roads hospitals schools and defence we should have the best in this field as far as comfort is concerned all you need is a clean house a bed to lie on allthis lavish living shows how corrupt the nation is .😒🇬🇧

Upgrade should have happened years ago . UK doing defence on the cheap again . Can claim 6 hulls , but limited effectiveness

Canada is getting new ships. We should get some destroyers to not just all frigates

Type 83 destroyer program has been announced and many concepts drawn up. Looking at the moment like type 83 (if all goes as planned) will have about 128x Strike length mk.41 VLS cells and various other systems including up to about 16x Naval Strike Missiles, 127mm gun, 20mm phalanx and 30 or 40mm autocannons and the new dragonfyre laser system. Looking great so far but we know how these things go, type 45 was supposed to have many more weapons than it does and many more hulls but that all got cut. We’ll see what the future holds ig.

I thought Canada's approach is for a "single class surface combatant" capable of air defence, anti-submarine and anti-ship warfare, whereas Britain seems to view frigates and destroyers as having different roles: frigates for surface combat and destroyers for air defence. Type 83 implies something of a change of thinking.
