The vibe in that woodshop with a fire rolling on a winter day would legit make me cry

I just purchased two of his saws, a 9 inch dovetail and 12 inch hybrid tenon saw. Both cut beautifully out of the box with no dressing and the workmanship is excellent.

I just heard of Erik Florip today via this video - but I also discovered, very sadly, that Erik passed away last year after battling illness. Rest in peace.

I bought a 9" dovetail saw from him 2 years ago and I love it!

$99 for a 9" dovetail saw is a great price. I have been following Erik for some time and I plan on all of my saws being made by him when I am done. They are less expensive than most of the big name saws and I feel they are an excellent investment in anybody's wood working arsenal!

Erik is a super guy, and easy to work with..Talked to him today and ordered my first saw from him today, can't wait to get it. This video is driving alot of (well deserved) business his way, makes me happy to support a US based manufacturer like this. This will not be the last tool I order from him.

Great to know. I’ve been looking at his saws and wondered how good they are. Another thing to add to the list of tools I “need.”

I just order one also!! I was "this close" to ordering a LN after watching your other video, not that it would have been a bad decision. But, I really liked your honest description of Florip and I think it's great to support someone like Erik who has served our country!!

I've had my Florip saw for two years and love it. I have that saw and my Grandfathers Disston back saw that was made in 1880"s. They both cut very good and wouldn't part with them. I really like Rob Cosman but feel his saw's are over priced ($280).

I just bought his dovetail saw on eBay for 99 bucks, it’s awesome, had no idea he made other tools ! I’ll be dropping a few bucks on his site !!!

Strongly considered this option after watching the video, but prices now on his website are $130-150 and the wait time is 15+ weeks. No bueno when there is so much competition out there in this market.

Erik's a good dude. Got to know him over on the forums at LumberJocks. One day I'm going to own some Florip saws, though it's also my mission to make my own for personal use. They'll likely have Florip backs and saw nuts.

Of the Florip saws, which is the preferred size ? 10" 15ppi or the 9" 16ppi ???

Is it worth paying more for the Florip than the Lie Nielsen (and waiting for ca. 6 months to get the saw)?

I wish I would have seen this in 2019. There's a 10" Florip dovetail saw in Ebay today listed at $299. I also heard he was not making any more saws.

looks like a good thing doesn't last long -- checked out the site and his saws (although nice) are now priced up in the LN and Veritas stratosphere. Good old American craftsmanship comes at a price. No free lunch - even for us "average" folks.

Could you make it any more difficult to link to his site from this post???

The prices have jumped a tad, but the price isn't too far from the cost of a Lie-Nielsen in the U.K. I don't like bringing price into things if I can help it, because I try and support small, independent businesses, and if it's an item which could potentially outlast me, then I will save very hard for it, but I'm looking at his website (very nice website it is too), and I can't really justify it at the moment. Hopefully, fingers crossed, he gets a U.K. importer, since his saws do look rather nice indeed.

How would you compare the Florip small tenon with the LN carcass?

At 3:04 Et Seq the teeth in the saw appear to be rip teeth. Can you say whether they are filed to knife edges or as chisel tips?

I watched the video the other day about the dovetail sauce and I decided I really wanted to check into it so I looked up the website and then I decided that I really wanted one of the sauce but I hated the way 18 to 20 weeks well I thought about it the weekend and then Monday the 14th was my birthday and I decided I was going to go to woodcraft and go ahead and buy me a veritas song well I was in there looking at the veritas songs and I looked up above where they were setting and on top was one box and guess what was in that box it was a florip dovetail saw so I asked if I could open the box up and I said are you sure this is really one of these songs the girl said yeah so I open the box and sure enough it was one of the songs that I've been looking at online so I said well this is mine they said it had just came in this morning and the guy that put it up there he told me he just put it up there a few minutes ago and then I walked up and picked it up so I didn't have to wait 18 weeks but I sure am thankful that I got it and I think well that I saw your video on this guy it's just a great looking soul I can't wait to get home and try it out

.017 thickness is a little scary for me. Thinner doesn't necessarily lead to finer work.

It may be a fine saw but takes a year to get it. Some of us may not last that long🙂
