Today we're taking the cute little wooden hippo and hitting the road driving north to Tacoma, Washington! I thrifted this cute little hippo for a friend recently at Goodwill and today we are going to shop Kelly's amazing space at the South Tacoma Antique Mall!

The concept for two-way and three-way chairs originated in 19th century France. The two-way chair was known as "le confidant" because it aided discrete conversation. It came to be commonly called a courting chair or a conversation chair. The three-way chair was known as "indiscret" because the third person could eavesdrop on the conversation of the other two. It became commonly called a chaperone chair. It is said that Napoleon purposely placed three-way chairs in the apartments of his ministers in the Louvre to encourage them to eavesdrop on one another.

I think the 3-sided chair was for "courting". The prospective bride and groom sat along with her chaperone for their first visits. The design allowed them to talk without getting too "familiar" by looking at each other too much.

7:00 Thank you for pointing out how hard people work to keep up their booths. Sometimes people love to complain about high prices, but fail to point out how much work it is. There are many times I bring in pieces and it requires almost a complete overhaul of the space just to fit them in and have the space function properly.

I always wonder if there is a high shoplifting rate at these Malls. Being stalls where vendor isn't there. With small items I worry people might take things or is it a case of empty pockets/leave bags at door?

@@roseb5945 I've had people steal from me and treat my stuff like it's not theirs. You typically can have locked display cases for fragile and more expensive items as well, so that could help cut down on thieves.

The dress form will still work by throwing varieties of fabric over it for jewelry display as well as many other ways to display items without the fabric....GRAB IT!!❤

I love that Antique mall. It's one of the few malls I feel have decent turnover of product. That one and 3rd Street Antiques in Puyallup are so much fun to just browse. You never know what you'll find in a random pop in, even if it's just a few minutes.

Once again Ms. L a totally amazing haul! What an array of great things at the Antique Mall in Tacoma at some really great prices. I love that you found the lamp in a booth that was more Shabby Chic than your style, so it just goes to say to look everywhere! Y-E-S girl you can pull off that hat - a soft lining and that "itchy" feeling will go away - jeans and a white T, yep. Everything looked so pretty styled. Congrats on the shelving - it looks fantastic. Thanks again for bringing us along!

Greetings Lovely Laura from the NE of England. I went to view an auction yesterday and you enabled me to comment “ Oh I do love that blue Bitossi lamp !”. It was lovely but was unfortunately in a large set of boxed junk. But I’ve seen and touched Bitossi so I’ll be aware of it on my travels. It is really worth looking out for, so tactile and so so blue. You are a good teacher x

I spotted an elephant in Kelly’s booth at 16:37 that I own, And my parents owned it previously and had it for about 30 years. I’ve always wondered where it came from and what the value would be. I’ve never seen it in an antique store!

I worked at a thrift store in Tacoma and that wicker/rattan table around 10:45 came through as a donation. A regular customer bought it for a great deal and it’s sat in their booth for a while. A few weeks ago I saw the table had been marked down a couple hundred. It’s a lovely table and I wish I had bought it from the thrift store! One of my favorite antique stores to get lost in!

I recently moved back to my hometown of Tacoma. I furnished my home with items from various second hand/consignment shops, and this antique mall. I have a gorgeous desk in my den that came from there. Haven’t been there in quite a while, time to stop in and spend an afternoon looking at all of the unique things they have.

That hat looked cool with what you were wearing (but I’m a tad looney LOL, I’m a hat girl too) I will be thrifting in San Diego (also a reseller) (staying in Escondido) during the week Dec 16-23 (for my 60th birthday!) just throwing it out there 🙂 we will also be whale watching since it is an EXCELLENT time of year for that (the Humpback whales migrate down to Mexico to mate - it’s an amazing thing to see if you haven’t yet)

Great you found the small Kaiser porcelain vase to match the larger one. I love Kaiser and white, and have a good size collection of them. They are so pretty in the black chinoiserie cabinet. And my kids have already said they don't want them, go figure!

The shelves look fantastic. Yes, you can pull off any hat. I have to tell you, you inspired me to visit two local Goodwills and one thrift store. Well, put Grass Valley and Auburn CA on your “do not bother list”. What a waste of time. I’ve been to better garage sales. There was hardly anything that wasn’t junk and all 3 were rather small. I moved up here due to the pandemic. I’m sure I would have found better stuff in San Diego County and Orange County where I lived after college. I was raised in Cupertino. With all the aged hippies here I thought sure I’d find a boat load of mid century. I was raised in the 60’s so I lived with all the stuff you love. I’m starting to appreciate many of your finds as you know how to stage and combine for a cohesive look. Your kitchen cabinets are killer. I will still hit stores but not this immediate area. Lol FYI we tried for a baby for 10 years seeing a fertility specialist in Beverly Hills for 8.5 years. He said I was the longest patient he ever saw. We adopted our first daughter as a newborn and she is a delight. I finally gave birth albeit she was 4 weeks premature and she had no problems. It’s a tough road to walk I know. When my 1st bio child was 1 I turned up pregnant with no Dr help! Talk about surprised. She was 5 weeks early but nearly 8 pounds. I was nearly 37 when she was born. Two long time friends both got pregnant for the first time at 40 much to their surprise. Both were thrilled and had ok pregnancies and healthy babies. I got married at 23 a year after I graduated from UCSB and was never on birth control. That’s a long time with no birth control so hang in there. I recently had a 7 hour spine surgery from a car accident years ago and your videos have cheered me up soooo much. Thank you for that and I will say some special prayers for you and Jesse. Keep the hat honey , it’s fun and you wear it well. One of the best malls I’ve seen you shop in. There beautiful and cool around every corner. My sister-in-law is moving from Tacoma to live in my sweet town in southern NH. I think I have a plan, hope she likes shopping.

“This may not have been the best purchase I ever made, but darn; it sure is cute!” Hoo boy. How many of us have been there for a lovely but uncomfortable clothing choice - whether it’s been for a hat, a dress or a pair of shoes? 😆 But don’t give up on this one just yet! A soft liner can save it and make all the difference! It’s a great style and pattern on you so I think it’s worth the try. In worst case scenario, you will have given it an upgrade and made it comfortable for its next owner.💜👍🏻
