Nice fix! This is why I put a 2 amp fuse in series with the contactor coil on my home AC. I figured it should blow and leave the main 3 amp fuse intact and make it easier to isolate the problem.

Contactor had a bad armature and freeze stats use to be used on systems that were not designed properly. Try a Short Pro Tool you do not have to Wait until the Poppers pop it shows up right away. Good video

its interesting how often these carrier contactors go bad, had to change some out on units that only a few years old.

Maybe this is stupid approach, but I don't even pull the popper out until I look for rubbing wires/check the contactor. If I don't see anything obvious then I'll pull it out.

@@Ogtonyg I tend to do the same. I don't carry my popper on me usually, so I just end up ohming things out quickly before I run to the van to grab it.

I was told to remove all wires from the board inside the air handler and add one wire back at a time until the resettable fuse trips.

Hey, great work man. Mike, quick question to you is do you prefer that compact fieldpiece meter over the larger one or do you have both? I bought the compact one but I’m debating returning it to get the larger one that swivels.

I’ve never actually used the larger one, I think it does have some other options but nothing I really use on a daily basis. The smaller SC440 works fine for what I do.
