Be careful bashing your installers. It looks to me like poor planning on the one sold the job. Cabinet size is too big for the space, return air coming up from floor below preventing emergency pan with out major design changes. As tech’s, salespeople we have the ability to speak with the customer, come up with a solution that fits their budget and schedule time to get it done. Installers are depending on us to do our part. They don’t have those luxuries. They have to take what we give them and make it work. With limited resources, training, time, and materials. Instead of putting them in a tough position and then bashing them about how it should have been done let’s make sure we are setting them up for success

Guys …. If you watched the Bosch Utube service videos … they would show you that the release screw would be the easiest way to release the bad board from the aluminum heat exchanger… My next question would be WHY did the good board become a BAD board.. did you ohm out the compressor, the fan motor, the PT??? Also I would have order the EAssembly part that is the corner metal part … w/ board already installed ….. Bosch does NOT have any recommendations on surge protection…. Thanks Fred C

My mom has a really small house and the HVAC company installed a system way to big. 1.5 ton would be perfect she's got to have at least a 2.5 ton. They under charged it so it runs longer. Suction line is never cold, only barely cool.
@JeffsHVACAdventures
@JeffsHVACAdventures 21 сағат бұрын
Sounds like messed up situation. A way you could try and overcome the over sized unit is put in a thermostat that one has dehumidification control and two set the cycles per hour very low so the unit runs longer. The dehu function will allow the system to over cool the space to reach its set humidity.

I've got a Bryant 4 ton aluminum evaporator coil from 1978, sitting right above an electric resistance heating coil. Still no leaks! The entire interior unit is original except for the fan motor which I only changed because the bearings were noisy from wear. I got in a new Chinese ball bearing 240 volt, 4 speed motor for $100. I only used the 2 lowest speeds. A new capacitor too.

The fins may be aluminum, but the pipes in the coil were copper up until about 10 years or so ago
@Sightthrough
@Sightthrough 3 күн бұрын
@@Straight_White_Fatherly_Figure Actually some of the real earlier carriers were aluminum coils. All the way to the tubes. They didn't have the best transition from copper to aluminum. I believe it was a flare fitting and on the ones I replaced often times that change over from copper to aluminum was the source of the leak. The rest of the coil was still fine.

On my unit the inlet/exhaust pipe goes out the roof. I believe I can’t remove the exhaust/inlet pipe withwithout damaging the exit from the roof? Is my thought process correct? If not how can I remove the pipe from the top of the unit?
@JeffsHVACAdventures
@JeffsHVACAdventures 5 күн бұрын
If it’s a non condensing model and you have large white concentric piping, then the piping should come apart. Might take some patience but it will come apart. If it’s a condensing model it might just have PVC piping which you can just cut and then glue a coupling in when you’re done.
@thomass.magnum9062
@thomass.magnum9062 5 күн бұрын
@@JeffsHVACAdventuresit’s a non condescending with the correct piping that comes apart. To remove the pipe do I have to lift the pipe a 1/2in or so? My concern is if I lift it I might cause a leak on my roof around the pipe? I’m not really sure how the pipe rests on that collar. I can’t find any videos.
@JeffsHVACAdventures
@JeffsHVACAdventures 5 күн бұрын
@thomass.magnum9062 I see your concern. If they just used a regular rubber roof boot to bring the pipe through the roof then you should be fine. The pipe isn’t cemented to the roof. It should slide up and down easily. But it they did roof cement the roof penetration around the pipe then yes you do have to worry about re sealing the roof. Which isn’t that hard, you can get a can of roof cement and it yourself.

4 tons is fine for a house with bad leaky windows, a bunch of kids running in and out, wife using a hot stove for all meals, and no insulation.... I suspect they had little to no cooling on the top floor might be why they have such a big unit. Never ceases to amaze me why people install such terrible systems that won't cool top floors.

That old, I would tell them to change it all. I would inform them that the evaporator coil in the attic could spring a leak at any time due to its age. Aluminum is hell to do anything with, unless you can flood the area you are working on with inert gas. Aluminum is highly reactive. If you take a screwdriver and scratch a piece of aluminum, the scratched surface will combine with oxygen in the atmosphere to form an invisible layer of aluminum oxide in seconds. The oxide layer is close to the same size as the metal underneath, so the oxidation stops there, unlike iron where rust is bigger than the metal below, so it just keeps rusting away. Aluminum is only expensive because it takes a lot of electricity to break the bond between aluminum and oxygen atoms in the processed ore. Rockets are now made with an alloy of aluminum and lithium because it is light & strong. When you see a firecracker explode, that was ultra fine aluminum power (dark pyro aluminum) being burned into aluminum oxide (white smoke) by an oxidizer, usually potassium perchlorate in the ratio of 3 parts aluminum, to 7 parts potassium perchlorate by mass. It is a dangerous mixture especially in dry climates, since even a tiny static electric spark can detonate it. The main fuel in solid fuel rockets is aluminum powder.
