Finding Fossils - Tales of an Ancient Land

On this day I had little time for my fossil hunt, and I ended up visiting an already known area. Even so, the plan was to go to unexplored sites, but I ended up not having time.
On the way back I passed the gastropod area and I was not disappointed... the surprise was really big because as soon as I started excavating it looked like the fossils were jumping out of the ground. I definitely have to go back there. I ended up bringing something quite interesting to my collection.

Wowzer that's soooo cool. I never knew gastropods had tails. Those are great finds. I especially love the tiny ones so 😍 cute. Thank you for taking us on your hunt. I got my first good tumbled stones. I was amazed at what I found. A few pieces of rocks with tiny fossil shells, a couple of petrified wood pieces. Some sort of quartz with what looks like pieces of plants. I was so surprised because I thought they were pieces of flint or chert depending on where you live here ☺. I knew I had some white or milky quartz as it is called. Some other pieces totally took me by surprise. I will show you pictures of the pieces of fossils and the petrified wood when I get a chance. Thank you very much my friend. I'm really glad you liked the movie. I've also thought about buying a rock thumbler but here they are very expensive... Is that cretaceous limestone? On 08:10 It seems to me a Neithea sp. Great video as always, be careful with "things" under the rocks,specially now with hot weather, take care friend👋👋 P.S. There is a genus of gastropods from Pliocene called "Ficus" that has that kind of broad/long siphonal canal. (Of course it's not that one).

Thank you very much friend! You are correct, it is Cretaceous limestone. It's Neithea sp. you are correct again!! I just knew that there is a species of shell that has an extended tail, I think it's the "Murex" but this particularity in Harpagodes is that I've never seen. I've thought that eventually it could be that a large piece of the shell is missing and in reality the long tail is much smaller because the shell covered a larger area as well. I have to go back there and see if I can find more... who knows if I've come across a new species? hehe. Thank you for your comment!

Do you guys in Portugal have geological map at 1:50000 like we have in France ? In France we also have detailled geological notices of every of those map . Very useful for fossils ! Although it doesn't cover everything of course

Yes, I have a few of some regions that I normaly visit, but I must confess that I dont use them much, but I think that could be a great starting point to my next adventure🤔 Overlaying that map with google earth could provide nice areas to explore...Thanks for the idea!😊👍⛏⛏🙏🦕🦕

São do periodo Cretácico superior, têm cerca de 100 Milhões aproximadamente. 😊👍🙏🙏⛏🐚🦖🦕
