The lighting was fine. There is nothing more manly than milling wood! My late Dad had a DeWalt saw in the garage are was always doing some woodworking project. The sound of the buzzsaw, the smell of the wood, the sawdust everywhere....good childhood memories! My Dad could build ANYTHING!

Just a thought: I"m in my mid 70's and vividly remember my parents hanging small bags of cedar shavings in the closets to keep any bugs out. While watching you make the cuts I saw all that cedar dust going on the ground and wondered if that couldn't be used the same way. It might not net much $$ but I haven't seen anyone selling that products for 50 years.

As the old saying goes, never an ill wind that someone doesn't benefit, and it has, given you some lovely cedar, congratulations. That new shed also keeps the sun off your head as well as keeping your saw in the dry, time and money well spent.

A wonderful video- very interesting indeed. Gorgeous cedar, enjoyed watching how you took a felled tree and milled it into something very useful. Very rewarding work; love your skill in felling, dragging, loading onto the saw, and the tools you used. Thank you for the video- bonus points for the drone camera work!

Good looking cedar you milled up there. It must be quite a treat to have a roof over your head while milling. The shade will be appreciated come the summer months.

I could smell the cedar while watching the video. Amazing how our senses kick in from woodworking in past! Your efforts would also make a great cedar chest or line a closet to keep the moths out! Beautiful wood grain showed with water! You make such great engaging video's from the angles you place your camera. Keep it up, your my favorite woodworking channel. Consider catching the water to use as weather permits and resources allow.

I noticed as you were sawing that it was your first log to be milled in the new saw shed. Cedar is my favorite to mill as well, I always keep wishing for bigger logs. I thought the video was great and the back light was not a problem. I was tickled to see your long beam in on of the shots, glad to see the mill under cover.

Fall Line Ridge also cedar is the only wood you can put the shavings in Dog beds, livestock beds & it repels fleas, mosquitoes, insects, moths & other bugs. 😉👍
@CCRider53124 жыл бұрын
Rick Harper you are right that’s one reason why people line their closets with cedar. The other reason they line their closets in it is Moths will not get near cedar so therefore they will not eat holes in your clothes if you have Cedar lined closets. 😉😁
@jaquigreenlees4 жыл бұрын
@@CCRider5312 rodents like mice and rats also. Cedar is toxic to them. spread the sawdust from cedar around the foundation outside of your home and they just won't come in. There are 2 problems with cedar though, 1) It is an allergen to many people, myself and one of my sisters are allergic to cedar. According to my allergist it is actually a very common allergy. 2) It's wonderful scent is an asthma trigger. Cedar shakes are a 25 year roof. Cedar siding are a 25 year siding. not having to worry a lot about the roof for 25 years is a good thing.

LOVIT, lighting was good, may need some help when you put that Beautiful Cedar on that back Wall ! Suggestion, make a 4’ spreader Bar and use two log hooks and using a chain across the top from end too end you can easily carry your logs and keep the dirt from grinding into the bark, with the chain across the Top you can simply move your hook left or right on the chain links to help level the load ! Just a thought ! Thx’s for Sharing

I replaced some lap siding that was Cedar. Super expensive to use, and extra absorbent when painted. Took 3 coats to get a nice finish on the wood. Personally I would have used a protective stain or something along those lines but it was up to the person who owned the home. I also as a contractor use Cedar Oil purchase it by the gallon, put it in foggers to kill roaches and bed bugs. Also carry a spray bottle of it. Safe to drink, won't harm children or kids. Kills everything by choking the insect out. Spiders, roaches, bed bugs, fleas, ticks, ants, pincher bugs. It was formulated by the military to combat biting insects. It's cool you have your own portable mill, makes things easier when you can just pluck what you need from the site. Nice video. I hit the like button for ya.
