It was a wonderful morning; the beach was covered in shells, and the weather was more pleasant than it's been in months! I have an absolutely awesome day! I really loves that Zebra Volute, but looking back at the day, I think the scallop flats and curves stood out the most right at the end. Thanks for watching!
Let me know which ones were your favourites ;D and if you enjoyed this and want to see more shell finding videos, I'd appreciate a like or a comment. I read all of them and try to reply when I can. You have no idea how much of a smile you guys put on my face. Thanks everyone!

I didn't even realise that Hervey Bay and it's surrounding beaches had such lovely seashells until I saw "Shellcade Shelling Down Under" - I admired him a lot, and you can also check out his videos here:

The scallops were particularly nice this time too; the flats are always lovely, but the curved halves surprised me this time 🤩 Awww thank you so much Pam, and thanks for watching 🥰

G’day Line 👋🏻💖 I’ll take you on as many beach walks as you’d like 😉 and goodness, thank you for your kind words about my shell displays! I do take photos of them of course (though not with any kind of fancy camera) with all of the higher resolution pictures going onto my Facebook Page in case people want to see them or use them as photos/ computer wallpaper. I do print them out at the officeworks store, and then send them to friends in letters and cards 😲 I have never put them into an album or a scrapbook, though I do admire the photos when I have them in my hands or on my social media 😁 the shell displays sure take a while to set up, so it’s nice to have a record of all of them!! Thanks for watching 🥰

I may or may not have found it before...but I couldn't tell what it was on this day because it didn't have colour on it? Anyhoo, it was super cool to see at Hervey Bay! The Thorny Oysters were really cool this time, but personally, I think the Zebra Volute made my eyes pop a little more 🦓 I'm glad that you liked so many of the shells, and beautiful scallops as well! G'day Melissa 👋🏻💖 It's such a lovely day, and I didn't even see a quarter of the entire beach in this episode! I can never do the whole beach in a single day (at least not while looking at shells)! Haha, I would stay there longer too, but it's such a long drive home, so I hope to leave before the tide comes back up 😂 I have though about camping up there, but would anyone really want to see 4 Hervey Bay episodes in a row 😲😅?? Maybe?? Maybe not?? Anyways, thank you so much for watching 🥰

Hi Maddie~~You have such gorgeously colorful shells down there!! Your Moon Snail shells are much more patterned and colorful than the ones I see on the You Tube Florida shelling sites. G’day Sunny 👋🏻☀️ Oh yes, the colourful shells really love tropical waters, so I get plenty of bright ones here! Hmm, that’s interesting about the moon snails; even in Australia, these mud flat moon snails are particularly vibrantly coloured with an awesome natural shine from this beach. The Florida Gaudi Nauticas are lovely and colourful too, though!! Also, I’m so glad that you liked seeing the Spindle shell; they’re not a common one to see here 😲 Thank you so much for watching 🥰

G'day Alison 👋🏻💖 The scallops really stood out, especially at the end! The Embossed Venus shell with the zigzags was surprisingly nice, and it was a surprise because I hadn't seen this one in Hervey Bay before! Also a surprise to gather so many Haynes Turbans on this day!! Haha, ahhh yes, the ants didn't look like a lot when I sat down, but then more and more of them showed up! Oh wow, they didn't want to eat me or my shells, so I reckon they're okay 😂 Thanks for watching 🥰

G’day Hilary 👋🏻🐌🏖️ Woohoo, the Zebra Volute was a cool one, wasn’t it?!! Also, yes, those Acorn Dog Whelks are elusive…they are cute, but not a popular or collectable shell. Additionally, these little shells don’t pop up in many places with KZfaq shellers… there needs to be more Australian, Indo-pacific, and Red Sea shellers! Gosh, I’d love to see someone shelling around the Red Sea (because I’d never go there because the surrounding coastal countries are so SO dangerous). Anyhow!! Thanks for watching 🥰

Hey Maddie! Can you tell me how you got into shelling?
@SandCoffeeRocks
@SandCoffeeRocks 3 ай бұрын
G'day Crimson Lizard 👋🏻🏖️ Sure thing! It goes something like this: I didn't know the beaches around me had such lovely shells until I saw a certain other KZfaq channel that showed some amazing shells in my area. It really opened my mind up to the beauty and possibilities that are all around me. I recall that I also loved collecting shells as a child, but I only ever found moon snails and club whelks at the beach I swam at as a child. Seeing cowrie shells here for the first time was like seeing a some kind of mythical creature; I just fell in love with the shell species, and then more and more after that! Also, I really enjoy the search; it's like playing a big scavenger hunt at the beach; someone (the waves) always put more shells around the rock pools, and I really love looking for the best ones. That's pretty much the whole story... oh, and I should mention that I really enjoy editing videos and sharing these adventures too!! Thanks for watching 🥰

@@SandCoffeeRocksThanks for telling me about how you got into it! I really love watching your videos. I've learned so much about shells from watching you. I find myself getting so into your adventures that I will audibly go "No go back you missed one!" if I happen to see a shell that you have in frame while you are showing off another one of your finds. I love watching your adventures as I am in bed and relaxing to fall asleep. I've noticed in at least one of your videos there were some really interesting shapes on the rocks around the rock pools. They kind of look like fist sized fruits made of rock. I feel like they are some sort of animal that lives on the rocks but I am not sure what they are exactly. My best guess is some sort of really large barnacle like creature. Do you think you'd be interested in showing us what the living versions of the shells you pick up are if you find them? Such as showing us what a Brown Lined Paper Bubble Snail looks like? I know I would be interested to see how big the creature is in comparison to its shell. Happy Shelling, Maddie! Hope you find some more stunners soon! 🐚🏖

@SandCoffeeRocks 3 ай бұрын
You're very welcome :D and I'm glad that you're learning a bunch too! I always tell people that I'm still learning as well, so take everything I say with a grain of salt ;) Awww I'm sorry that I overlook a bunch of shells!! I sometimes (very often) just focus on the one shell that caught my interest in a single scene. Haha, maybe you'll have to go shelling for yourself one day and find all of the shells that I miss!! As for the weird, barnacle like shapes around the rocks, that's a type of sea squirt called a cunji; short for Cunjevoi. It's described as being a "stationary animal" so it's a lot like barnacles in that way. It covers itself in a cloak of algae, so it looks and feels a bit weird (I don't like it, but it's good to stand on as bad as that sounds XD). Fish really like to eat it if it gets cut open, so it needs the algae on top of it to protect itself. As for showing some marine animals and snails; I do do it sometimes, but I don't see many live ones in the rock pools during the day. They are much more active at night. Last year, I had a few videos that showed the live Brown-lined Paper Bubble, and sometimes I add in a few live animals to my videos...but once again, not often. I did make an episode that re-caped some animal clips, but that was for 2022 with all of the poor audio that those old videos have ( kzfaq.info/get/bejne/qpyifb2Xu9zMcYk.html ), and I didn't do one for 2023 for various reasons. Honestly, I should show more of the live Snake-head and Ring-top Cowries that I see in the rock pools, but as for the other live snails, I don't see them very often at all. The only really decent cowrie one that I have off the top of my head is a KZfaq short of a Wandering Cowrie: kzfaq.info_eBD4Z5nyTk?feature=share Edit: I just checked it, and it's actually in the creatures video that I linked to above, but this one is just a Short of putting it back into the water. I absolutely loved your comment, and your well wishes must have worked because I had a great day shelling yesterday! Thanks again!!!

@@SandCoffeeRocksThanks for the links to your videos! I really hope to go shelling with my partner someday when I visit her in New York. Thank you for teaching me about those stationary animals! It works well to get the calcium off the shells, so you might not need to put mineral oil on them.
@SandCoffeeRocks
@SandCoffeeRocks 3 ай бұрын
@@jasminehelen8951That is true; it strips away the top layer of a seashell, and that top layer has the calcium. I would never recommend it for cowries (their shells are too thin, so the acid would be detrimental to them) but I think these murexes will be a good one to try because their shells are a little thicker. Thanks again!
