Hi Tina, Curiouser and curiouser……I like the way you think. Listening to walls and thinking deeply about the history of the property. Greetings from Australia.

Maybe they used the structure with the voids next to the fire to keep food containers warm from the fires heat?

You may have already shared this, but would really love to hear more about your story, how you ended up in France, how you found the house, how long you were searching for, what you do for a living and how you research every job you have to do, you;re so inspirational.

The rock thing next to the fireplace is indeed a stove. The hot coals from the fire would have been put in a pot before being put in the stove. Then cooking pots put in the holes above. This ensured steady heat.

it was a cooker. you've blocked off the chimney as had the previous builder with the cabinet. large pots sat in the holes to have almost direct contact with the flames below. there is likely a vent in the back to go up and out the chimney. the fireplace to the right would have been to cook meat on spits and create the embers used to the left. Also, please consider using eye and lung protection (those cheap surgical masks aren't what you want. get an N95 respirator like the builders use) with all of that stone tapping and other chores. And some gloves (and a shovel) while gardening.

I think the built in next to the fire place was for keeping food warm, coals would be put under through the little door and clay bowls or saucepans placed in the hole. Ive seen similar in India. And I’m sure I saw it explained on another video. If I remember I’ll send the link,

A pet grave is my guess. The bowls in the rocks are for water collection for animals like bird baths.

The lady from Chateau Rosiers had a little warming heating stone stove like yours beside your fireplace 🥰. I can see the beautiful difference after you clean your stone . As far as getting the walls dry , can you put a kerosene heater in the room ? At least at night ? Or maybe you could jump way ahead of your schedule and have a log burner/ flu put in for winter to get the room dry ? Any way good luck im enjoying watching ❣️❣️❣️

Visiting some old places and at my home too, I dreamt of a sort of time lapse (in a very cinematographic way) of how these places have been through out ages (I don't know if it means something!)...

Oh how interesting sounds like you experienced some quantum dreaming. I love it when that happens as it means the unconscious is processing something! Either a desire or healing ❤️‍🩹 I never want the dream to stop . Lucky you x

I could really see the difference in the stone after all the tapping, very interesting about the mix and the color too. Also the stone with the depressions, my first guess was a washing station before the cows? Maybe the one beside the fireplace was used to proof bread and pastries? Very cool property that’s for sure, thank you, loved it again!

it is a cooking stove next to the open fire (i have seen similar in French castles and houses from the renaissance period) ; it is indeed very clean (maybe old mortar or render has been removed and that is the reason why it is clean;it is just a guess)

I'LL GIVE YOU 1 TIP, WITH THE EMPTY SILICONE PACKAGING YOU CAN USE IT WITH MORE LIQUID CEMENT AND INJECT IT INTO THE MOST DIFFICULT INTERVALS OF THE STONES

Looking great and worth the work. To make rounds for the holes you could put a board underneath then put some clingfilm to make casts. Just idea. So looking forward to seeing more 😊
