I always go the lightest possible everything. People say this makes it too floaty but I really like it and the efficiency is excellent. I like it when I turn and there is no resistance it just powers that way. My typical AUW is 450g with 200g of that being a 130C 1100mAh 6s.

@@nicothechico508 Sure is. 2306 1600kv motors 26.6g each which makes it turn real sharp. I tried heavier 2306 motors at 31g and you can notice it's not as snappy. On my next build I'm going to swap the 55g Air unit for a Caddx Vista without heatsinks at 15g and a decased gopro at 17g + 10g holder shaving another 13g.

Thanks for the insight and 2 years is pretty good for your skills. I spent the first 6 months burning up parts trying to learn how to solder after I bounced my first RTF off my neighbors roof at 2 am (he's a cop 😲) . Then I just started getting to fly and I broke my dark max in half and lost my arris. Cured all that buying a chameleon ti on ebay and getting a qx7. Super strong and reliable.

Good info. All my 5 inch builds use 2207 2450kv to 2500kv motors . My prop choice is based on flight feel for the weight of the build. I pretty much stick with props I like. Happy flying.

Great video man, wish I had this kind of information when I started. Took me nearly two years to work out all this kind of stuff for myself. Found I prefer a squashed X for the reasons you mentioned and 2306 motors, also found I don’t like a prop that is too light and responsive because it feels twitchy. I feel really comfortable with a 2.5 lens but recently tried a 1.8 again and found I could stick closer to stuff while powerlooping etc. but hitting gaps was harder. You make some good points about a wider FOV though so I might try and get used a wider lens because I fly too conservatively and would like to get more stoopid on the sticks 👍👍👍
@MaxBeamer

im with ya on all that haha the narrower lenses make gaps more realistic looking I think that's why so many racers fly narrow

Always good, smart concepts max. I've been thinking of trying a narrower fov for a while - not sure why I've been hesitant. I'm gonna switch it for tomorrow now (I'll just put cam in 4:3) and see how it goes. Thanks, keep it coming.
@MaxBeamer
@MaxBeamer 4 жыл бұрын
Thx man, switching to 4:3 will shrink the horizontal image but wont change the actual fov much. Best way to do that is a new lens with lower focal length. At least in the cams I tried.
@fcass
@fcass 4 жыл бұрын
@@MaxBeamer Yeah I tried it on the bench and just switching that (4:3 Foxeer Cat 2) made a large difference in the FOV. STILL didn't do it at the field this morning lol, just wanted to fly.... I'll try a couple things on the sim tonight too. My problem has been I flattened 4 batteries with various equipment failures recently (bah, too long a string of bad luck but learned a lot about ruggedizing the drone) so when I get to the field with only 6 packs, I didn't want to spend much time mucking with settings. Have four new batteries on the way, hooray. (RDQ and one of the v3 120c tattu's because I just had to try it.) Speaking of that what batteries do you fly? And do you find 6s gives you a more consistent flight over 4s?

This is a great video! awesome tips. I'm especially interested in seeing the different camera fov in my googles and feeling the difference. I heard of a foxeer cam today racers use on a 1.7mm lens that gives you a super wide angle. i feel i am very conservative when it comes to taking risk and hitting gaps and flying in close proximity to objects. so the wide fov would help me. It makes perfect sense. ill definitely try it out and let you know

@@MaxBeamer Great point (and video)! That said, you can only limit downward (unless you buy higher S packs). E.g., if I fly 4s @ 2400KV, I cannot get to 2700KV unless I go to at least 5s packs. One conclusion might be that it's generally worth running higher KV motors to always be able to limit them to the desired KV?

My perfect setup is a race set up. I never can get a freestyle set up to fly as well as my race rigs. Lol. My racers always fly perfectly like their on rails but my freestyle rigs always need a tone of tuning regardless if I’m on falcoX or betaflight tho I can get it closer on falcoX. My best 2 flying rigs at the moment are a Flightone arc one with a hobbywing 60a and revoltosd with hyperlite e series 1722’s and the other a switchback with a hobbywing 40a and millivoltosd with hyperlite e series 1922’s. My flightone dolphin is a close 3rd but I’ve been attempting to tune it for over 6 months now. Flys great but still has some bobbles. I spent 6 mins on the racers tuning them 🤣.

What’s your thoughts on high kv & light prop vs low kv & heavy prop?
@MaxBeamer
@MaxBeamer 4 жыл бұрын
it all depends on your setup, I don't really like super light low pitch props unless theyre 5.1 length for my setup. Generally for freestyle med high kv with a lower pitch prop like the 5.1x3.1x3 or S5 or gemfan 51433 is spot on

@MaxBeamer
@MaxBeamer 4 жыл бұрын
The johnnys are super light low pitch and even short (4.8 length) for those motors. I'd suggest using a higher pitch longer prop. maybe the one I have in description or gemfan 51466 would do you a world of difference if you don't wanna get smaller motors.
@JustinormousFPV
@JustinormousFPV 4 жыл бұрын
@@MaxBeamer Yeah, I'd rather not switch motors. Just did a fresh build. I'll give those a try. Would it possible to go with an even lower pitch for better low speed control? Or is that pretty much the sweet spot? EDIT: Nope you were right. 5.1x4.6x3 feels perfect. Thanks!

i have a question for you if you dont mind and of course know the answer, but u wouldnt happen to know and or recommend a kit or prebuilt drone 4" or 5" quad or even a cinawhoop that utilized the dji occusync system and camera, so i would be able to use my original dji racing edition goggles, you kno the big black box type from dji, so i can fly with a more crisp feed instead of the scratchy analog, or maybe you can recommend some different antannae if dji RE goggles can even accept it, are there any that provide cleaner analog video feed by using a certain antanne? so basically just want to kno if I can use my dji RE goggles with a smaller drone setup like the ones you have so i can have a smaller drone with high-quality transmission, this way i can potentially save some money and use my goggles ive had for years, instead of having to upgrade and drop 800$ plus on the dji digital goggles that are the newer new design... i think i remember hearing about the phoenix fpv drone that had the occusync installed so i would be able to use my RE goggles with that... could you please throw out a couple recommendations i just want to be able to use my current spektrum dx6 and my black dji RE goggles.... any quads out there that come with occusync so i can utilize my goggles? thanks soo much and god bless, -p3t3r
