Thank you for making such a brilliant video! I'm making my first sweater and needed to learn techniques like this. Everything else I've watched and read has made it seem so daunting. You explain it so clearly and concise. Thank you very much :)

Thanks for this video, this is so valuable! I don't know why somebody taught me to go through the top of the V instead of the bottom, but you show and explain why exactly it's done through the bottom, I will never do it wrong again. Thanks!

Thank you. I have been knitting since I was about eight years old, which although I hate to admit it, I’d half a century now and because of your tutorial I have just completed the best and neatest shoulder seam ever. Wow, and it was so easy, and more importantly, fun. Seaming has never been fun before.🌻🌻🌻

This is the best video tutorial for sewing shoulder seams that I’ve ever seen. Thank you so much. It worked beautifully and I know I will use it many times. I follow your column on MDK Knitting and enjoy it very much.

Love it! Just getting to shoulders of my first set in sleeve sweater. It doesn't have to be perfect I know, but I want it to look as nice as possible so a bit of research on best shoulder seaming is warranted. ;-)

Do you have a video showing seaming of reverse stockinette? Thank you for this one it was very helpful.

Reverse stockinette is the exact same. The anatomy of the v stitches are still there (look closely).

I'm using this video every time I need to seam :D I'm seaming my first shoulder seam where the bind off was not done with one single row of bind offs. For example, bind off 3 and knit to end of row, next row purl straight (stockinette), next row bind off 2 and knit to end of row, next row purl straight, next row bind off some more etc. so it looks like a staircase. I just got to the first stitch that was bound off on a later row (i.e. not the first row with bind offs), and I'm not 100% sure where to insert my tapestry needle. Should I still insert it where the yarn came from the last time, and then bring it out at an angle so it comes out of the stitch up one row? Or should I ignore the rule of "insert where you came from" and insert it in the spot 1 stitch up, so it goes in and comes out on either side of the same stitch? I hope my question makes sense! For now I will pick one of those options and see how it looks :)
@PattyLyonsKnitting3 жыл бұрын
The same way, but it's harder to see. When you use the sloped BO when working stair steps BO it's super easy to see. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/e7ifnduHuZ3TkmQ.html

I wish you’d show how to seam with bound off edges that have one step. I like Amy Herzog and her shoulders always have one step. How do you seam and avoid holes?
@PattyLyonsKnitting3 жыл бұрын
Most set in sleeve sweaters have shaped shoulders. This is not specific to Amy's sweaters. The seaming is the same, but if you use the sloped BO then it even looks the same as in this video - kzfaq.info/get/bejne/e7ifnduHuZ3TkmQ.html

This is wonderful, and perfectly timed! Do you have a preferred bind off for shoulders that will be seamed in this way? Thank you!

Nothing special. Just a regular bind off that doesn't twist the stitches.

Great! Many thanks.

Can you please advise how tight you "zip"? As your blue disappears, I assume the goal is not to have the sewn row showing. Using a chunky yarn on a child's sweater, pulling it tight makes the seam pretty clunky. Thanks for your video.
@PattyLyonsKnitting3 жыл бұрын
If you have a really bulky yarn, you can leave that seaming row like an additional row. It should be wool or some yarn with a strong memory.
@categunn66853 жыл бұрын
@@PattyLyonsKnitting thank you, I might try that as I was ready to give up :)
@monahuff2 жыл бұрын
How do you do this with both knit and purl stitches?
@PattyLyonsKnitting2 жыл бұрын
There is no difference. A knit and a purl have identical anatomy. They are both Vs. The only difference is if the head of the stitch of the row below is in the front or the back. Take a careful look at your stitches.
@maggieadair75864 жыл бұрын
Very nice, but you don't show what to do with the tail end of the wool on either side
@PattyLyonsKnitting4 жыл бұрын
That's because it's a tutorial for seaming the shoulder. Next you'd have to set in your sleeve (another tutorial) and when all seamed, you weave in your ends. For more on how to weave in ends, check out my class "How to Read Your Knit Stitches and Master the Pattern" - pattylyons.com/classes/online-classes-2/

How would you seam shoulders for seed stitch?
@PattyLyonsKnitting4 жыл бұрын
The exact same way. Seed stitch is just knits and purls. The stitch anatomy is exactly the same.

How do I do shoulder seams with a sweater that is ribbed (3k, 1p, then 3p, 1k)?
@PattyLyonsKnitting5 жыл бұрын
When you have a cable shoulder or ribbed shoulder and you want the columns of stitches to line up, you will have to enter the wide part of each v so you are seaming stitch head to stitch head.

If you’ve done a sloped bind off, there would be absolutely no difference. Have you tried it? It’s exactly the same. Thumbs up.
