Here's my understanding: First the camera shows very closely everything. So you can't get a clear view. To get a clear view you need to stop looking closer. To stop seeking perfection. Take a step back, and eventually you'll find a beautiful scenery. You'll find yourself.

I downloaded this song MONTHS ago. It’s contagious. It’s haunting and mesmerizing. Then the other night it hit me AGAIN, only much differently....I’m going through a tremendously difficult time in a marriage that’s only exasperated through covid-19 isolations. Two years ago, I lost both my parents within the same year and my remaining sibling committed suicide in between those deaths. She was the second and last sibling in my family to take their own life. My family tree literally ends where I sit. I listened to this song the other night with my headphones, very loudly. I must’ve listened to this at least two dozen times in succession. It never tired or got old. It still doesn’t. I am hurting so much right now, more than I ever thought possible but THIS song is my loving companion for now. I love it and I love FINK for creating it. The perspective from close up to far back enough to actually “see” the real picture is a prolific statement. Don’t ever think your music doesn’t reach people. God bless.

Bro I Lost My Dad This Year and I got COVID, I'm thinking very carefully what I go to say, not trying to compare at all mine with your situation is hard to imaging, so today a got a loop "Try New Sounds, new music" and I get here because I was hearing about this guy 'Fink' from a singer on an interview, I said why not (Nice Music I have to Say). Now I'm reading your comment and writing feedback, Serendipity?. I don't know. but when I read the phrase "My Familly Tree Literally End Where I Sit", I said this is a BOOK or AUDIOBOOK or Something and me goosebumps, I Immediately Remembered the "Viktor Frankl Book" any way that was just a crazy moment hehehe... The music video is really well done. I like how it starts with a close-up of his skin, his eyes, the guitar, the drums, his face - we can barely see anything. Then when the chorus starts, the camera goes further away, showing you more details, little by little, and you see the band playing the song. It seems like they are in a grass field with some trees - so we start making ourselfs a picture of the scene. But then, as the music goes on, the camera goes away and up in the air, revealing the bigger picture... They are actually on the top of a building. Because sometimes, we're just "looking to closely", and we need to step back to see the bigger picture.

I took it as the complete opposite. To me the whole song seems very sarcastic. From the beginning it says "this is a song about somebody else so don't worry yourself". To most people, it's not very comfortable taking responsibility for our own actions or lack of. "Put your arms around somebody else" - basically surround yourself with people who don't hold you responsible but support you when in fact you are wrong. "The truth is like blood underneath your fingernails" - the more you analyze the situation and look at yourself, the more the guilt weighs down on you. "And I could be wrong about anybody else - you don't want to hurt yourself by looking too closely"- we all know deep down when we are at fault even when we don't want to admit it, so , ironically, he's saying it's better to not try and justify our shortcomings because that means analyzing the situation, and inevitably realizing it's our own fault. Everyone looks at it differently, but that's what I took it as.

At first I thought it was about letting go and moving on in a relationship, but the more I listened, I think its about loving ourselves. I believe that "somebody else" he mentions is our reflection. The side of us were over critical about, our imperfections, the "devil in the details". This song warms my heart. It starts my day out positively.

I met a beautiful swiss girl at a classical music festival, back in 2014, her name is nora, she was beautiful, she loved photography and played the cello, she had a golden, thin and short hair, she had the most beautiful smile I've ever seen and she was shy and it was really cute, I couldn't help falling for her. One night she showed me fink's perfect darkness, it was this beautiful moment, we were talking the whole night, everybody was sleeping and the weather was perfect I still remember the sound of the leaves being blown by the wind, I confessed that I liked her but I was rejected, she said we didn't live in the same country and whatever, but we kept on talking the whole night and she showed his music. This song in particular reminds of her. On a bus trip, night, we watched a movie on my notebook, a kielowski one, and she slept on my shoulders, dude, it was so fuckin' beatiful. The most magical moment in my life; My personal Before Sunrise. Anyway, great song.

I heard this song on the season 5 Covert Affairs season finale episode. I thought the song was so beautiful and perfect for the episode that I paused the show to listen closely to the lyrics. Wow! What a perfect blend of music and drama.
