In the wake of Finland gaining its independence, small arms were much in demand for the armed forces. Many rifles had been taken from Russian stockpiles in Finland, but not many handguns. Hugo Ahlberg ran Ab H. Ahlberg & Co Oy, a machining company in Turku and he decided that making guns for the government would be a great way to get some stable and profitable business. He made a copy of the FN Model 1910 pistol in .32 ACP, and proposed to the Army.
After a bit of tweaking (the barrel and slide were made 15mm longer than the original pattern), a deal was made for Finland to purchase 1,000 Ahlberg pistols. As so often happens in this sort of situation, production turned out to be much more difficult than Ahlberg had anticipated. He failed to meet delivery deadlines, and quality control problems made at least 20% of his production scrap (of 1,000 pistols delivers, serial numbers are known as high as 1,251). Ahlberg grew frustrated that he was taking a financial loss on the project, and the Army got frustrated that it wasn't receiving its pistols.
Ultimately, the contract of 1,000 pistols was fulfilled by Ahlberg, although the promised additional orders were cancelled. Instead, the Army purchased a quantity of surplus Ruby pistols from France. These would turn out to be unsatisfactory, leading to later purchases of Luger pistols from Germany. Still, the Ahlbergs were used by the government in a variety of roles (included Defense Forces and police) into the 1960s before the last remaining ones were finally sold as surplus.

And I think it'd be best to say the 'Oy name' once, and then just say "or as anglicized 'companyname Ltd.'".

Can you do a critique of the CZ82? The -NON- Makarov as it is often "called" (wrongly so). Its a neat gun.. 1 interesting thing is the oldest ones are not 50+ yrs old but ARE C&R designated? What's up with that? -floating barrel (chrome lined and has a 4 Apex polygonal rifiling as well and all those things combined creates a very accurate pistol. Even with a barrel shorter the 4" and it having 150k rounds put through it, they still can easily create 1.5" groupings at 30 yards. If you can find hot loads it can def take them. The Czech's used some crazy array of ammo from steel core, explosive rounds, flare/flash-blind rounds, tear gas bullets. It can carry 13 9x18mm rounds, 12 in a double stacked magazine + 1 in the chamber.. The chrome lined barrel made it ideal for rounds w/corrosive properties. In my opinion it was the best of the "Makarov" guns but the cz82 is more influenced by Walther (like a ppk, even kinda looks like one). But I own 2 and I even use one as a carry weapon. (I don't have a conceal & carry permit but our state its legal to open carry so🤷🏻‍♂️..oh well... But it's the great "little gun that could" I'd love to see you do a review/breakdown. I have no where near the experience you have accumulated over the years and would enjoy to hear your take on these pistols and I'd even like to hear the story of how the cz75 lead to the cz82 development and weather the cz75 is tech a Makarov or not? The cz82 was a military side arm from the cold war. It is a Warsaw pac gun and to my knowledge is the only military side arm equipped w/chrome lined polygonal barrels for average Joe troop guy to have. The US never has...not in the 80's. Glock made a big deal of their polygonal rifiling in the 2000'nds like it was a new tech and they were pioneering new ground.. except a poor cold war country introduced a side arm with the same barrel tech 40 yrs ago.. Way to copy CZ... just like the Japanese copying US cameras... That was a thing for while. I collect old/cool cameras too like HassleBlads and US Graphflex and others. The big 70mm and sheet film cameras are my fav. Ok.. thats my request and did you ever do a review of the Jericho 461 Israeli made but IMI designed. (Some importers called it a desert eagle from what I hear. They seem like a good gun but I don't know much about them. I found one for @ $500 and am considering buying it but not sure about its reputation. Love what your doing... ill donate when $ allows. I enjoy your channel a lot. I hope you read this as I don't know how to send you mail/text/a letter/feedback directly to you/requests, etc so I really hope you read/see this. I've also seen video of this crazy machine gun that's electric like a mini gun or a Vulcan cannon in an aircraft but it used these Triangle shaped cartridges. It's rate of fire was insane. Much like a mini gun, the barrel had so many rounds going down it that it instantly glows red hot when in full auto. This thing was big and mounted an what looked like a cast machine tool base like from an old giant lathe so it was designed to be mounted on a ship deck or c130 or something but I don't think it ever got adopted by the US or any military but it looked awesome. Thanks for a great channel..You have a plethora of info...

Finland has an interesting of absorbing firearms from different sources and sometimes improving them. I wonder if anyone has written a book on the Finnish small arms of the 19th and 20th century...
@anttieskelinen1
@anttieskelinen1 3 жыл бұрын
There you can buy your own. Mainly in Finnish but also little side notes in english. "Finnish military small arms 1918-1988" Book is not perfect list of guns or don't have high guality pictures as books nowadays does, but text in Finnish give you almost all information you need about their service history. Guns are between Vetterli and RK. 1. book is about main history, 2. Finnish made weapons, 3 Foreign weapons in Finland. www.adlibris.com/fi/kirja/sotilaskasiaseet-suomessa-1918-1988-9789512505081

Finland would have been covered by FN's Russian patent, if any. Once it was independent that patent wouldn't have have applied to Finland.

It would be fairly effective too. .7.65 Browning is decent round once you get to at least the 75MM barrel length. Modest report, modest recoil and modest though not utterly inadequate power. Much below that in the like 50MM ish barrels used for vest pocket pistols here in the states its not better than the 6.35 and here at least more expensive.

I have another ripoff of the FN 1910; a French MAB Brevette .32auto made for Western Arms Corp. It has a rear sight like my Colt Commander that likes to drift on its own if you put any pressure on it but It shoots really sweet so it's fun to plink with. But I can't find ammo for some silly reason. I have some SJHPs for it but they won't feed, I'd have to have someone do a ramp job.

It's a copy of the FN 1910. The 1922 is based on the same design but has a longer barrel with better sights, a different "bushing", and a longer grip to accommodate a magazine with higher capacity.
