It sometimes takes me several listens to really warm up to a Band-Maid song but I notice that most musicians "get it" right away and only need extra listens to make sure about certain parts or just to appreciate the arrangement. The guitarist Kanami Tono writes most of their recent music and she also does the arranging. I really think that in a few years, she'll be winning awards for her songs in various fields of music, not just rock.

Yeah, the Japanese music scene is quite special. When it comes to compositions and technicality they are pretty high, and I see a lot of musicians do love it because of it. Lovebites is another example. Blooming is totally a masterclass from Kanami Tono (guitar) in composing, where she made each member make a part then put it together. She uses a triple rectifier and has been endorsed by PRS. If there is a place they really shines, it is on the stage and recommend checking out their live material. Other members: Miku Kobato - founder, lyricist, rhythm guitar, backing vocals and spokes pigeon. Saiki Atsumi - Vocals and co-lyricist. Akane Hirose - Drums MISA - Bass.

They aren't worried about a song being too complex for the audience. They don't withhold cool guitar riffs and try to save them for another song. Kanami is PRS endorsed and uses a green custom 24 or a purple custom 24 generally and a red custom 22 less frequently now, through Mesa Boogie triple rectifier. Also Alvarez or Alvarez / Yari acoustic. Miku, Zemaitis endorsed, too many models to list but her most well know is her Limited Edition Signature model "Flappy Pigeon" A24MF-FP (she has 2) through EVH 5150, other notables are her Pearl Top and Flying V. Also Zemaitis Acoustic. Misa, Black Cloud basses through Orange. Used to use a Fender Jazz, switched to G&L but has now settled on Black Cloud fender jazz styled bodies although she has an SG styled body bass as well. Used to favour her Black Smoker but now generally uses her new custom dirty yellow distressed model. Akane endorsed by Tama, sometimes uses a Ludwig or Gretsch snare, Martin heads, Zildjan cymbals previously Sonor Saiki Sennheiser microphones

How they work; Kanami, lead guitar, composes the basic music; sending it to MISA, bass and Akane, drums with required BPM for their fills. Then with the music ready it goes to Miku Kobato, rhythm guitar, vocals, spokes pigeon, for the lyrics. Saiki, prime vocals, works with Miku on the lyrics and has written the lyric for 2 songs. Next, the studio to "fine tune" and finalize the song. They have complete control of their music through to final release. Miku founded the band in 2013, they struggled for 2 years. Their MV "Thrill" was put on Facebook and in 2 weeks had 2 million views! 45% of the views were American and European. They have toured the US and Europe since 2016, both their main fan base. Though they are considered the #1 Rock/Metal band in Japan. They just finish a 13 city US tour all sold-out. They are expected to have an Europe Tour in 2023. Excellent reaction, as always. This is an older rig rundown of KANAMI's. She chose PRS because it was light weight and she is an absolute huge fan of Carlos Santana. She is now using a 35th Anniversary edition of the Custom 24. Among those I’ve tried, PRS was the perfect guitar for my image of BAND-MAID songs. PRS Custom 24 (Green) Korina Body Amps Mesa/Boogie Triple Rectifier 4×12 Recto Standard cabinet Effects - When I compose, I don’t think much about the effects. I use it to enhance the songs I've already written live. Here are the typical settings of my pedalboard: Delay: Free The Tone FT-2Y, Eventide TimeFactor - I prefer using Digital Delay on the TimeFactor and on the H9, I use Spring Reverb. I use Free The Tone FT-2Y in a series circuit because it adds delays to a set tempo. TimeFactor is used to connect sends and return effects to clean and solo channels. On the other hand, I use H9 only for songs that use reverb. Currently, I only use it for reverb, but I would like to try more algorithms in the future. Reverb: Eventide H9 - I am a big fan of Eventide's so I want to keep using it forever! Volume: Shin’s Music Perfect Volume Drive: One Control Strawberry Red Overdrive, Fulltone Obsessive Compulsive Drive Overdrive Distortion - I use the boost pedal to add more gloss and deepness in the clean channel or to amplify the sound of the solo or riff. Really nice job, Teemu - you picked up on a lot of stuff compared to most. Many of us maidiacs think Band-Maid is the best hard rock band in the world today. I know I do. You'll find that their vast catalogue is super high quality (you can almost pick at random and expect greatness), and that their combination of songwriting and playing is unmatched. You picked up on the composition/arrangement of this song, and you are right on! This song has an unconventional structure but still very listenable. I love how from the guitar solo to the end of the song is just genius composition - blistering solo, then a beautiful vocal drop off, and a slow build to the end where the theme from the vocal part continues, this time alongside of an extended outro that is also constantly changing. Next time you listen, try focusing on either just the bass player or just the drummer. This is a musician's band - that just happens to write catchy songs that can be appreciated by anybody. Hope you do more of them - if you do, maybe go with either Domination Live, or go back in time to when they were just baby maids and do the live version of Real Existence. No matter what you pick, it'll be great!

You can’t deny it, we can’t deny it. Japanese women is really something. Only in Japan we can see no different gap between men or women when it comes to music.

Either Domination, or Manners/Black Hole -- metal people often like the latter, as Black Hole has the fastest bpm -- progressive thrash/speed. And Black Hole is musically very interesting. Manners is funky, so you get a contrast between some of the different styles that band-maid can play -- funky and then speed/thrash. They can also do great acoustic/stripped back songs.
