The weird thing is when you consider that she and I have way closer musical connection then I had to my grandparents lol. All of my grandparents were born around 1920 so in comparison shit I can coexist like she can listen to Korn or Limp Bizkit and not turn her nose up.😊 love watching those reactions one of the best ones was when these kids reacted the Motley Crue and I’m a big Mötley Crüe fan. I'm a GenXer. Limp Bizkit's fusion of rap with metal definitely makes it easier for a Zoomer to digest, so they showed more love for them than the bands in some of the other Nu Metal reaction videos. Of course, rap, hip hop, and funk elements are part of the Nu Metal sound, but Limp Bizkit put those front and center much more than did other bands because Fred Durst couldn't really sing, but he could rap. I have no kids, so this was especially fun for me to watch!

I wonder if the kids who grow up with music streaming will ever have that feeling of nostalgia as they dont connect so much with certain music anymore. I remember very well buying 'Chocolate Starfish' (Limp Bizkit), 'Hybrid Theory' (Linkin Park) and 'Issues' (Korn) as my first CDs and listening to those 3 albums over and over again. As a 12 year old this was my first introduction to heavy music and I can still sing along even though I dont listen to NuMetal anymore.
@speedwagoncito
@speedwagoncito Жыл бұрын
I think this is overall more tied to how much the music/lyrics themselves impact people and their experiences around it all and not so much the means you get to access them. Most of us who have fond memories of buying X or Y album usually think of the overall experience, of how we saved up for weeks to be able to buy that record, or how we got it as a gift from someone, how we had to travel somewhere else sometimes to get some album and so on and, if we're honest here? Who's to say it's not similar for Gen Z people right now? Perhaps not in the same way due to streaming accs being linked to credit cards that may make access to new music easier, but plenty of them are probably enjoying that music with their friends while they play some game, or even just through chat and voicecalls or whatever. The times and the means may have changed, but the experiences overall remain the same in essence for most when you think about it, because it's not just about the piece of round plastic you buy on some store, or the bunch of megabytes you stream in your phone. Asides from that, there's also the fact that we don't know for certain how will media consumption will be like in 10 or 20 years from now. It could be similar to what it is now, or it could be completely different but, either way, nostalgia will definitely be part of the newer generations just as much as it has been for everyone who has come before them. Just think about how it was for our parents, or our grandparents.

I have a funny story about Nookie. I was in 6th grade when that album dropped. Living in the French part of Canada, me and my friends were wondering what "nookie" means. We asked our English teacher to tell us what it meant, and he replied "Well, I don't know that word. Can you use it in a sentence?" Needless to say he did not want to translate that with context to a bunch of 12 yo. Hahahahah! Years later, when I got that album back, I finally understood why Eric would not tell us!

Seems a little strange that none of these kids would have heard of Limp Bizkit even in passing, but I'm sure they were chosen for the video specifically because of that. These kind of videos are always interesting to me because I was so into music as a kid that I listened to whatever I could get my hands on whether it was new or old.

Yeah, you need a control group that doesn't have the background of Limp Bizkit/Fred Durst being super hated.

Yeah I don't get if this is really representative of Gen z, surely there's loads of Alt kids who would be into this/know this. It's funny though so w/e.

I see how much the one girl was into it as being symbolic of the ushering in of the second wave of EXTREME. We have been out of the second wave of the "bi lighting" Era for a bit now and seems like we're in maybe the middle of the 90's as vapor wave, at the bottom of it's rising trough. Those sort of reaction videos are nice to see. It's about time the younger generation discovered what came before and I feel like the youngsters in the video can be credited to some degree for that moving forward.

There's a reason why Nu-Metal was so huge for Millennials. The good stuff from that era was catchy, fun, and aggressive all at the same time. I used to look down on my nu-metal days after I got into more extreme metal, hardcore, and random European metal bands lol. Now I realize how good that "lame radio rap-rock" was tbh.

I will never understand why people hate on any music or anyone who likes a specific type of music. If everyone liked the same thing life would be boring! Let people like what they like. You don't have to listen to it anyways. Sure everyone can have an opinion. That's cool but to sit and just dog someone who likes it makes the one talking crap look like the fool. Tolerance is needed for all these music snobs and I'm 48 and been fighting this fight for decades even with my own friends. It's sad and pathetic. Just because I don't like Cardi B and things like that I would never diss her fans because that's what they like and they have that right. We've had people fight for this country to keep our freedom's and as I sit and watch our freedom's being taken away on the freaking daily it just blows my mind that this is what so many sit around and fight over instead of fighting to keep our freedom's so we can remain free.

this stuff came out during my bar phase... i even went up on stage with a particular band whenever they were in town, and played and sang "Faith" with them (the guitarist hated it, cause i would drop tune to low B, and never retuned the guitar before handing it back to him lol)... it was fun, it had a groove, did i mention it was fun? not stuff to sit and critically analyze, just stuff to get a little crazy and have lots of fun to...
