Dude have you not listened to the "Classic Rock" radio stations for the last 10-15 years? They've been playing Nirvana on those stations for that long now. I knew my 90's mainstays weren't far behind once I started hearing U2 and REM on the stations that played Blue Oyster Cult and Motley Crue. Getting old is...well, getting old.

Basically same! @elosoguapo8137

PJ is definitely dad rock, but foo fighters are the reigning kings, because they were dad rock from day 1. Pre foo fighters we had nirvana. @@elosoguapo8137 I can see that, I never felt like PJ is making music for dads, they never did a beer commercial come on. Dadrock is kind of a slur sometimes, just because someone is 40-60 years old doesn't mean its dadrock, they might be just middle aged, we all get old.
@elosoguapo8137
@elosoguapo8137 Жыл бұрын
@@goldengrill769 as a 47 year old, I agree that age isn’t the primary thing that gets you the dad rock title. Like “hair metal” the term dad rock is a bit pejorative and retroactive, but it also exists for a reason. When we reflect on musical trends and styles, some music ages better than others. The reason a dad type guy is into PJ is that he grew up listening to it and still likes it, but the music hasn’t aged too well and so younger people tend to reject it. Compare that with Alice In Chains or nirvana and these are bands with songs that have aged well and as such are embraced by a younger audience, not just the generation that grew up with it.

I don't take his takes very seriously. As a millinial who remembers the participation trophy bs etc WE were having shoved down OUR throats during our coming of age, I don't understand holding an era or taste (90's rock) that we are familiar with over someone else's head from a different generation with their own unique coming of age, and expecting them to like it exactly the way and as much and for all the same reasons as ourselves. And that's the gist I get from some of his videos imo.

I'm a Gen'Zer. (Born in 2000). My parents are both Gen X. Growing up, I was pretty sheltered from anything that was trending. The only music I seemed to know was 90s music for majority of my childhood. I was into bands like Nirvana, Green Day, The Flaming Lips, They Might Be Giants, just a ton of bands from the grunge era. Even my friends listened to 90s rap. I was pretty sheltered given I never even really watched TV much. I never really knew of anything trending until my younger sister got older and would always look up newer artists on KZfaq. I had NO idea who justin bieber was when he was first getting popular. I first heard his name from my parents talking about him. After finding out about who all of these newer 2010s "artists" were, I still couldn't manage to get into any of them. I HAVE discovered many new artists along the way. But their styles are STILL within the boundaries of 90s grunge/indie/alternative. All independent artists too. 😂 The rattling hi-hats of trap music hurt my ears, and the pop music just isn't gritty enough for me. I'll forever remain a 90s head I guess. I just can't seem to get into anything people my age like. I have it a chance for a bit. It didn't last. 😢😅

Alanis Morrisette started her career as a child actress who appeared on Nick on the tv show You Can't Do That On Television in the 80s. And yes, she got slimmed in the show. To be fair, many of these songs are still being played on the radio along side with the newer ones. When Dolores of The Cranberries died, and Marie from Roxette died? Their songs were played in tribute on so many stations including newer stuff. As for Foo Fighters, The Cranberries, Goo Goo Dolls and the likes? they are still being played on the rock stations today including their newer stuff. Of course Zombie was covered that was a massive hit recently as well. As for the 90s? Even country artists was being played along with MC Hammer, Envogue, Whitney Houston, Faith No More, Def Leppard and all of them. The top 40 radio stations was meant to be like for the mainstream charts was going back to the way it used to be in the late 40s to 1982 when country songs were representative. Garth Brooks's several songs, Mary Chapin Carpenter's Passionate Kisses, Faith Hill's This Kiss, Vince Gill, Smokin' Armadillos, Billy Ray Cyrus Achy Breaky Heart, Little Texas's Go Bless Texas, Restless Heart, Blackhawk's Every Once In Awhile, Lonestar's Amazed, etc. I wish the the mainstream top 40 pop charts go back and be more representative today than they are back then.

Best thing about "Everlong" is that the music is universal

I think an interesting thing to see on this video is how much more well-known and influential pop, R&B, and Hip-Hop artists from that time are than Rock artists. When I was a teenager in 2003, I was mildly familiar with Kiss from a Rose, but I would have known the rock songs right away. But these kids who were born around then know Missy Elliot or Seal, and don't know the Foo Fighters or Faith No More.

I think because of how music is consumed these days, kids aren’t going to be as knowledgable of older music before their time. When I was growing up in my younger childhood in the 90s, I had listened to a lot of music from the 70s and whatnot as that’s what was around when listening to the radio. That isn’t how music is consumed anymore. It’s now hyper focused into people only listening to specific things and not branching out, not by choice, to other music to be exposed to. Moving forward I think it will continue get worse with how narrow scopes of music consumed will be. That happens with movies I have noticed in regards to younger people today. We used to be subjected to whatever was on radio or tv. No more.

There will always be enthusiasts who want to learn about older music. The younger generation is exposed to way more old music via soundtracks and pop culture.

As a geriatric millenial, I love Everlong. Dad rock it may be now, but it's timeless. I'm so old. I never liked Pretty Fly even when it was new. It put me off Offspring ever since. Smash is great, fantastic really, but it was downhill for them after that aside from a few alright songs. The final fantasy hair comment was good, I enjoyed that.

The one artifact “90s teens” today don’t have that we actual 90s kids had back then was our collections of ‘Pogs and Slammers’ such a fun game/hobby that no one ever played, still recall my favorite ones 😂😊

I’m from gen Z and my favorite bands are Metallica, Green Day, and Def Leppard. I also don’t mind heavy bands like Slipknot, Ice Nine Kills, and even Cannibal Corpse. While I listen to that, all my friends listen to Reggaeton, rap, and pop.
