Finn look up The Callous Daoboys will change your mind about violin, they're a bad ass "pop math rock" band from Atlanta. Really cool stuff. Think you'd dig em. Strong hooks, heavy, and maybe wouldn't know there's violin til you see it. Great band, coming up strong lately!

As much as Yellowcard has put a stain on their name with that lawsuit, it hurts me that they’re looked at as a one hit wonder because their discog is fucking incredible. Paper Walls, Southern Air, WYTTSY.. so many good records and better songs than a Ocean Avenue. Just my opinion though.

First discovered Yellowcard when I was downloading Rufio songs on Songspy (like Napster). Someone uploaded October Nights by Yellowcard as a Rufio song. A few weeks later went to a show and Yellowcard opened for the band (shame I can’t remember the headliner) but at the show they played October Nights. They put on a hell of a show - violin player was doing flips during the whole set. Obviously - they’re the thing I remember about that show 20 years later.

The violin is awesome, man. I remember a few reviews of ocean Ave at the time saw it as gimmicky, and maybe there's a case for that, but doing something different for the genre in a way that still fit with it is great. The "giga chad" turn off to the nerdiness of the violin feels like it's from jock culture, and contrived to fill content, idk the response was just strange to me

You should check out Justin Hawkins' (The Darkness) channel. Super informed, super classy and funny. An essential channel for me. And it feels weird to call The Darkness a one-hit wonder. They returned from a break-up in 2012 and have been releasing albums that, for me, lay waste to anything they did on their first go-round. And they're still funny as hell, too -- people forget that hard rock used to have quite a bit of humor at one time. And they now have Rufus Taylor in their ranks -- son of Queen drummer Roger Taylor -- who has proven to be a fantastic drummer all his own. They just keep getting better.

My argument for YC has always been that without the violin (Sean Mackin) and to some extent LP (drums) they would’ve sound like most every other generic pop punk band of the 2000’s…as you go through their discography they’re more than just Ocean Avenue (the song) - that being said they are reuniting at RiotFest in Chicago this coming September and play OA (the album) in full as a headliner. Maybe check out the violin up close!

Totally agree. The violin gives them a truly unique sound in the pop punk world.

It's all about how you carry yourselves with the violin, Finn! I bet an incredibly cool musician with a ton of charisma and confidence up to the rooftop would change your mind! Those are hard to come by, ofc

The “bro country” acts that Finn claims to be into now probably idolize Charlie Daniels, and he played the… fiddle. Well, damn; I guess Finn’s right again. 🙃

Finn didn't catch it, but at the beginning of the hellogoodbye song, there's a sign that says "camp holadios", "hola" is hello and "adios" is goodbye in spanish. Just a little nice touch.

Forrest Kline is one of the nicest people you could meet. I ran into him with a girl I met that night from one of his shows and told him we found each other to his cover of "Blink 182s Rock Show" and he thought that was cute so he walked over to a flower bed and handed the girl I was with a flower and said that was beautiful or something along those lines. Honestly was insane how hallmark like that whole situation was.

Story time! I was the first person in line to go to my first warped tour. A crew came to the line to see if they could help setting up for a band. It ended up being for Hello Goodbye. They were like the chillest bros on the planet. No joke, they even invited us back to their tour bus to play some D&D. We had lots of other bands to see that day so we respectfully declined. I still regret that to this day. Shimmy Shimmy Quarter Turn is still a certified banger.

The darkness was honestly so good lol. First two albums are full of bangers. There’s a live video of panic at the disco doing that song and I’m not a fan of them at all but brendon does such a good job it’s kinda crazy

Yellowcard had loads of bangers, Keeper is my favorite song. I toured Europe with Ryan Key from Yellowcard. That man is an absolute gem. I agree on the violin thingy though, unnecessary feature.

I honestly remember Only One by Yellowcard more than Ocean Avenue. Never heard Cheerleader in my life up to this point. Nor have I heard this Hellogoodbye song. Walk the Moon definitely hits the one hit wonder on every level. I Believe in a Thing Called Love is what the kids call it a banger.
