ANTHRAX ALERT Specialist HAZMAT Officers Respond To White Powder Incident In Central Manchester

Emergency services attend an "Anthrax Alert" on Hardman Street, Manchester City Centre during the 2021 conservative party conference. Police later confirmed after being examined it was determined that the substance was not hazardous.
A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: “At around 11.40 this morning, two fire engines and a detection, identification and monitoring vehicle from Gorton and Ramsbottom fire stations were called to attend an incident on Hardman Street, Manchester. GMFRS crews were in attendance at the scene for around three hours, alongside colleagues from Greater Manchester Police and North West Ambulance Service"
North West Ambulance Service said: "Our Hazardous Area Response Team (HART) were called to support an incident at an address on Hardman Street, Manchester, at 11.37 No one required hospital treatment."

Great video. I feel that it’s about time to rejig HART. To many skills that over lap with the FS and at a time we don’t have enough crewed ambulances.

thing with heart is while the FRS skills are for getting people out HART is more aimed at getting there people in to take advanced care to the patient, also the issue with ambulance crews is more lack of vehicles because they are all waiting outside hospital

@@williamPearcewill but I’ve always been taught to extract a casualty from the danger. So what’s the point of hart treating someone in a chemical incident when it’s the environment that’s killing them.

@@Ian20232 from a chemical perspective Hart is Trained and equipped to treat conditions others aren't from a rescue perspective they are to stabilise until rescue is possible

I agree, I don't think HART really justify their Thunderbirds budget or role any more. Most of the time on the fly-on-the-wall documentary that features them they respond to standard ambulance/paramedic incidents. For instance, I once saw them attend (in three incident response vehicles) a rugby player who had dislocated his elbow, when there was already a DCA in attendance! Four vehicles? Eight medics? Really? Are they that bored and under-used?

@@YelpBullhorn Yeah, saw them in their documentary going to FRS calls and doing absolutely nothing, they put on BA and stood beside their vans, didn't near the actual fire ground once. Same when they went to a Swift Water Rescue call, they put on dry suits and didn't approach the water in any capacity, they waited for FRS to do all of the work. They are paramedics who want to be firefighters by the looks of things, i've never seen them use their special HART skills to do anything their normal paramedic counterparts can't do.

A tad quicker response than the Manchester arena bombing. GMF&RS only took two hours to respond thanks to some seriously stupid senior officers who failed to follow their own incident plan and totally cocked up inter service communications. I hope the lessons HAVE been learned.
