I remember being sat in my car in a traffic jam on the A5103, where Hulme arch is now. Car was turned off as traffic was so heavy. Didn't hear anything but the car rocked like someone had put their bodyweight on the rear to rock it. I got out as I thought one of my tyres had blown. Had no idea until I had got home.

It's sad to see the city like this. We responded by having a massive rave at Castlefield. No hate here.

A friend of mine was sheltering on Bridge Street with a group of other people when the bomb went off and it lifted them all off their feet. So from the point of the explosion on Corporation Street, the blast wave went down St. Mary's Gate, left into Deansgate all the way to Bridge Street , amongst the other streets, such as Blackfriars and what have you, yet still had the power to lift people off their feet.

It was a 3,500 lb bomb by the PIRA that lifted you off your feet...
@olliephelan2 жыл бұрын
It was supposed to lift britain off its feet. Specifically it was targeted according to a well published I R A doctrine , and that was to hit both military and economic targets. Hitting the economic targets curbed British and international investment in N.I. thereby making it too expensive on the British corporations, government and tax-payers. It was well known that "one bomb in Britain was worth 100 in Ireland". So, after 2 years of watching Major stall on peace talks , the P.IRA decided to hit economic investment in the dead centre of the Empire. The bomb which ended 35 years of conflict was in Canary Wharf. 2 dead. Multiple 90 minute warnings. The British Establishments reaction was (quote) " *Two more bombs of this magnitude will cause ALL financial and Real Estate investment to flee London City* " If you consider how significant that is. The London Square Mile losing its Real Estate and Banks would be like a small country going bankrupt. So , the "Peace Process" started in earnest, and instead of the I R A being told "NEVORR ! NEVOOR , NEVOOR! ......they were told "Ok, thats fair I suppose". So, Id consider Canary Wharf (same campaign) to arguably the most effective bomb in history. It ended 35 years of conflict and Britain's oldest War and longest Operation in its history.

@@olliephelan The British Government were demanding an immediate decommissioning of all weapons by the PIRA that had been stalling the peace talks.... if memory serves me right... yes you are 100% correct the British Government knew that the economic fallout would have been catastrophic if one more huge devastating 💣 bomb had gone off.... PIRA had stepped up the size of their bombing attacks.... Canary Wharf was huge but Manchester made that look like a fire cracker... Brits knew they wouldn't be able to stop these bombing attacks on their mainland by PIRA so the strategy worked it forced the Brits to the table...

@@ogrebattle22763 Major was maddening. If you watch the Long Good Friday, it gets a touch spooky. Canary Wharf was where The Long Good Friday was filmed. GFA ? And the plot was International investment in the Docklands being blown up by the I R A. And thats what leds to the Good Friday Agreement. The Good Friday Agreement was 75 years to the day of the end of the Civil War. There seems to be a thing about Good Fridays. Better than Mondays maybe

Videos like this showing the aftermath of this bombing should make locals and people who live in the western world realise what sort of damage countries in the Middle East, North Africa and Asia faced just 10 or so years later. When the British and American foreign policy illegally invaded Libya and Iraq, these were the types of bombs being dropped daily by fighter jets. Furthermore, the indirect consequences of these illegal invasions were even worse.

No , fire service petrol , cars people walking lazily a way , , no c b r n deployed , they have filmed from the s / z to the b / z , the explosives used are millatary, not like the I r a bombs of old , fuel & Gas they produce dark thick smoke & loads of fire I can tell you ! , they have put on a good show , don't you think , millatary explosives , mark my word , , almost like a British 911 , & still you accept it as the norm , , common there is major damage to buildings, where are the crews ie fire & rescue, would have thought they would there in nunbers, come on , please start to understand , politics are dirty & food for there media , good try ,
