On May 16, Northwestern Buffett held a Fireside Chat with Fiona Hill, senior fellow in the Center on the United States and Europe in the Foreign Policy program at The Brookings Institution. Fiona also recently served as deputy assistant to the president and senior director for European and Russian affairs on the National Security Council from 2017 to 2019. From 2006 to 2009, she served as national intelligence officer for Russia and Eurasia in the National Intelligence Council.
As an expert in geopolitical and foreign policy issues, Fiona offered insight into Russia's ongoing war on Ukraine and its implications. The discussion highlighted key insights on the impact of deindustrialization on democracy and the factors driving American politics over the brink from Fiona's latest book, There Is Nothing for You Here: Finding Opportunity in the Twenty-First Century.
The conversation was moderated by Annelise Riles, Executive Director, Northwestern Roberta Buffett Institute for Global Affairs and Associate Provost for Global Affairs, Northwestern University.

Thank-you Dr. Fiona Hill, & yes, the perfect note to end on - 'For Putin this is a battle for the past, for history, & for the Ukraine this is a battle for Ukrainians & for their future'.

What an outstanding interview! Thank you for this. I learned so much! Learning new things about how the world works is one of the reasons I enjoy listening to Dr. Fiona Hill. I tune in to as many of her forums as possible because she has such a deep understanding of how various governments and the people behind those governments operate; both on their own and in tandem with the rest of the world.

Is there a current programme involving Fiona Hill. I am a great admirer of hers, but there doesn’t seem to anything running up to date, or currently?

Hi, cousin (?), I am a great fan, and wonder how closely we are related? My grandparents returned to England leaving my father to stay in Canada, Springhill, Nova Scotia, actually. My grandmother was a DICKSON actually, and they returned to northern England in the 1930's, leaving my dad, George Dickson Hill to marry my mother here. Please answer if you can. John M. Hill, author.

Quite common with scholars and experts of any field be it geopolitcs, science or business. Same or similar responses to same questions. They have carefully worked out their discourse and flashcards and stick to them unless the scenario changes dramatically ... which then obliges them to either update or completely remake their discourse.

@@santoriniblue8413 I guess you are right, the same applies to Peter Zeihan who I watch a lot. I guess I was drowning in the same talking points because over the last few weeks I have watched a LOT of Fiona because she is quite brilliant and I want to hear more and more :)
