I turned this old ear corn elevator into a Firewood conveyor/elevator. My dad had it sitting under a tree for years. Thanks for checking it out!!

I would have been hard pressed to figure out how to mount that bad boy without the frame they normally come with, wheels for toting and all. The wees look happy and healthy, soaking up all that sunshine and fresh air. Ours unfortunately got sold away from the place and I’m looking forward one myself. Reno

Appreciate your continued support & kind comments. I’m sure you’ll come across something one day. I found a few options on Facebook marketplace but they were too far from me or too expensive. I think an old hay elevator might work nicely.

@@TwinCityFirewood true story: In 2011, neighbor had a 30 foot one stored up in top of his old barn and said I could have it. As we went up into the loft to get it, he warned me to be careful because the floor was soft. It was at that exact moment my right foot caved the floor in and only the joist below kept me from tumbling down below. Unfortunately, the abrupt halt to my decent against the hard oak joist broke my right leg. Sadder still, I had to drive my old stick-shift 1 ton back home. On the way down he asked if I still wanted the elevator - I said, “You can keep it!” 😆. I should have gone back for it but never did.

I've converted a bunch of hay and grain elevators to firewood use. To slow yours down more you can replace the inside pulley that drives last pulley with a smaller diameter one. A 3 or 4" should fit there easily. I also convert them to gas engines. I sometimes direct drive them or use a clutch and belt. Engine just needs to run above an idle just enough to engage the clutch. You could just make brackets off the existing mounts and hang it under the conveyor instead of over the top. Grain elevators would much better than hay elevators which have tall flights on them. They are handy for sure.
@TwinCityFirewood
@TwinCityFirewood Жыл бұрын
Cool!! Yessir, that inside pulley your referring to is 4”. I may try a 3” sometime. And since this video I have mounted the motor underneath. Works much better. I am having trouble with the chain slipping off though. I tightened it up quite a bit to see if that helps. Many thanks for watching & your helpful comment!!!

I’ve been looking for one of those myself. My only concern is how low the motor is. If you have multiple pieces of wood in one spot going up the conveyor they could possibly get caught on it. Would be a easy fix though. Will be watching to see how it goes. Take care!👍🏻

I have a very similar conveyor I just picked up at an auction. I was wondering how you attached the board to the bottom. I wanted to do that but was concerned the chain and paddles might catch on any fasteners that may stick thru. Any help would greatly be appreciated. I like the channel and have just subscribed.

Appreciate you watching & subscribing! I mounted a 2x8 to the bottom of the conveyor then used conduit or pvc straps to go around the bar of the ibc tote then screwed to the 2x8 board. It allows me to move the conveyor around in the 2 different positions. Hope this helps.
@billerwin3772

Thanks but I was wondering how you attached the 2x8 to the bottom on the conveyor. My concern was that the chain and paddles might hit any protruding fasteners
@TwinCityFirewood
@TwinCityFirewood Жыл бұрын
Gotcha. On the top of the conveyor under where the chain slides there is a couple of removable plates. I drilled a few small holes in the corner where there is a slight recess away from the paddles, then I screwed the conveyor to the board. I rolled the chain by hand to make sure nothing would interfere & it seems to work fine.
