Hi everyone! Well, the rain that we have been receiving for the last 6 weeks has finally broke and we are getting some hot weather... that means that we can get some equipment back into the woods to do some road repairs so that we can easily access more firewood poles. Come along with us while we do a little road maintenance with the Kubota B2601 tractor, Kranman T1750 hydraulic timber trailer, Komatsu wb150ps backhoe and the Kubota x1100c RTV.

Maintaining your woods roads and trails is a never ending battle. Looks like mother nature has the upper hand this spring and summer.

She sure did! We'll bring them back though... you are correct, you have to work on the roads almost as much as the wood!

Great work. I like that you put that culvert in 2 feet deep. That gives lots of dirt over top. We struggle to get ours deep enough due to shale down about 1.5 feet. This may be our window to get road work done . Im starting today after a wood delivery.

We always try to get at least 1 pipe diameter overtop of them… that doesn’t always happen but it is our goal!

We also got that weather, where everything was so dry, then so much rain to turn everything muddy. On my personal experience to maintain trails (haven't build any from scratch yet), is to have more ditches than less. Deeper they are, more likely it will drain the water out from the subbase of the trail. I've installed a few culvert pipes too and I found that compaction is the key. I usually compact the dirt using the bucket, proceeding by layers. Then having a tracked small machine (10k lbs), I can roll the new dirt right away. The more compact the dirt will be, less likely it will gain water from rain. Another key thing is to keep the trails rut free. As soon they form, they gather rain water that will puddle and make the soil soft again... becoming a catch 22 situation. Can't fix it because it's muddy... I see your new fuel pump, I think I have the exact same. It works very well for me. Thanks!

That little fuel pump works well for $100! A real back saver and no more spills… love it. There’s always road work to do around this place. Build them, fix them or control the brush!

Glad y’all getting some rain. We haven’t had any rain for about three weeks man it’s getting pretty hot down here 102 today. Next month supposed to be hotter.

Hang in there… we would gladly share our rain with you! Dad is just able to get the tractor through the deer fields to mow them. Was getting stuck in them in June!

Would it not be best to take your fire wood logs out in the winter after the frost is in the ground. After the sap stops running in the winter the wood is a lot quicker to dry and lighter to handle and there are no bugs to try to pack you away just a thought rain is better than fire

We agree but we work in the woods all year except for mud season. The wood we are cutting now is sold green and those customers dry it for a full year before burning. Thanks for watching!

Nice video! Clever design on the log trailer. Do the hydraulics run off the PTO, or do you have remotes on the tractor?
@OakMountainAcotts
@OakMountainAcotts Жыл бұрын
Hi Terry, the log trailer works really well. It runs off of one set of rear remotes and will haul about 1/2 cord of wood at a time. Thanks for watching!

Great video. Did you get any of the rain Nova Scotia got. That was bad. You’ve got some work there. I was splitting wood today. I don’t have any woods roads. Would like too have some. But I don’t have the equipment you have. Your dog likes being out and about. 👍🏻 Have a great day Jason and Karen.

Thanks Noel. Old Ranger likes to be in the woods with us but I can't take him with me when I'm cutting, he'd be under a tree! That heavy rain missed us... Nova Scotia got it all this time. Did it swing out your way?

Hello Jason, nice work, refreshing to see a backhoe, seems the mini excavators have taken over around here, I built the access and all the roads here back in 1994 with an international backhoe🪵👍🏼🇺🇸

I love the backhoe… so versatile! I wish I could upgrade to a newer one with AC and a heater in the Winter but I’ll make do! Thanks for watching…
