i Have the exact same tractor and a farmi winch as well up in central Wisconsin. I use tractor chains as I am in hilly country. The only other item I would recommend is a better grill guard as the Kubota is just plastic and there are expensive items behind it if a piece of brush punctures through it. I believe the company is 511 Design. Love the 4060.. Good luck

Hi Jason I'm from north of Fredericton and I've worked in the woods most of my life I also was a part of the Maritime forest ranger school trail cutting crew back in the 90's. I find when knotchjng and falling a tree I leave a bit of wood on my back cut until everything is ready to go then pull the saw out and cut the little bit off the back This prevents you from becoming saw bound. It also allows for you to be able to put a wedge in . Give it a try. Love your videos neighbour!

Nice work but why bring 5 litres of saw oil to the woods? Buy a combi fuel/oil can.

I love Camso tracks, had them on a Can Am max Outlander and a Ranger. Hated getting stranded by them way out in the bush. Antirotation bars are really wimpy.

I always cringe when I see someone, especially someone who cuts a lot, not using any safety gear (I worked in emergency medicine for over 25 years). No chaps, no eye, no hearing protection.

Often worth keeping the vintage models, however, as the scrappage costs are financially and environmentally ruinous 😊

ln Boreal forest areas, Birch is the go-to (white) But Birch needs a season to sit to get the most out of it. Not everyone is near Birch stands as well, Larch offers good BTU (not Tamarack, Larch) But alot like Birch, not everyone is near Larch or Birch stands. So majority of firewood for Boreal'ers ends up being lodgepole or jack pine. I guess white, engel, sitka spruces and doug fir are okay to burn if the wood condition is not great for other utilization, but man l wouldnt want to be burning things like black spruce or balsam, just because of their annoyingly longer drying, and more tinge residues they leave behind. Aspen? Well aspen has alot of issue indeed with quality, the BTU of course disappointing.

Snob is a good word, selling firewood I've had comments on loads about " ugly wood " trees dont grow square or perfect dont stack perfect after splitting you get what you pay for!! you want cheap you dont get sugar Maple, you want green thats what you get, customer is always right .... but .... I hear, this time i want DRY WOOD! only to find wood i delivered a year ago un stacked right where i dumped it on ground, I burn anything days save the best for nights, I cant cut sell what i dont have,, some customer want only eastern hornbeam .....ironwood hard to come by, or cherry ? or white birch, I have birch split and small rounds stacked and covered at least 6 years old no rot, leave it on ground in weather wont last long, customer is ALWAYS right ...... even thou .....🤔

Nice video and a good argument for having multiple saws! For me personally, the 30cc saw gets used for trimming, 40cc and 50cc for limbing up to around 16” and 60cc and 70cc for big stuff. I love the power to weight ratio of the 50cc saws and they can cut just about anything. The nice thing about big saws is running long bars. They get heavy (Echo 7310 fueled and oiled with a 28” bar is 21.4 pounds) but I don’t have to bend over as much.

People who bash the horsepower have no idea what they are talking about. Diesel power is known for its torque not hp. Many manufacturers keep them at 25 horse because if they go more than that EPA says it must have DEF. So if they upped power you would then pay even more and complain about def lol. I imagine that the power ratings are understated to skirt these laws much like muscle cars back in the day!!!

That trailer would work pretty good with my tractor since it has the backhoe attachment and is already plumbed for doing most of what that boom does. Neat little trailer.

Hello jason Just just found out about your youtube chanel some weeks ago and was looking at your videos. Very interesting stuff. Sorry for my english i am in Qc, near Gatineau otttawa region. We just got a 270 acres and i am planing to exploite our land like you do. Could talk to you for hours about this project of yours and also mine. About this video you did on big decisions to make. I think you should keep it small but efficient as possible on every aspect. Keep the kranman and kubota tractor. Your best machine and simple methode to harvest trees is this. Kubota excavator 040 or 057 size. Buy a rotating tree shear and of you go. In the comfort of your cabine you will be able to harvest wood anytime anywhere. Those kubota are real work horse. Tree shear for a 057 excavator can cut trees in seconde and take them down real fast and easy. You can use it as a grapple. Only to cylinders and a blade. You can cut trees to 10 inches with those. Complet with a good set of buckets and your roads and trails will be in top shape in no time. I made 8km of roads and trails in one summer on weekends. Roads i can go with my truck no problem there. I got a auger and brush cutter for my excavator and there is nothing you cant do. Very efficient way to work and kubota excavator are the best period. Could go on and on. I am new to this internet, youtube thing. Give me a email so i can write to you, send pictures of what i mean about tree shear etc. Keep up the good work💪👍

In watching your videos, it seems like you handle the logs a lot for just making firewood. Have you considered getting something like a Halverson processor for the front of a tracked skidsteer? Then you could cut/split the logs in the woods directly into IBC totes and save hauling the logs out, stacking them, reloading them on the forwarder, and unloading them onto the processor table?

My heater sometimes gives me an E01 error. I have to start it again. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. I suspect it is because of the 10 amp limit of the DC. Is there something I can doe? (Thicker cables or something)

I’ve seen a neat idea before to lift and lower a drag to put a ski at the front and a hand crank trailer jack, but yours is a nice setup too with the three point hitch

That should work just fine in your trails. I am curious to see how it will handle deep fresh snow. I like the way the front of it is done to deviate from any obstacle (ex. tree, stump). I wonder why the coupler is attached like that to the tongue. It seems it goes through a small section, and most likely, it's intended to be like so. I also like the turn buckle for adjustment. I am assuming from the cab, you don't see much how the groomer works because of the winch being in the way, isn't it? Lucky you have snow. For the few inches we got so far, it usually melts within a week. We are still on the grass, which is very unusual for us. Thanks!
