Watch and see useful tips as we build a firewood storage shed that is both functional and pleasing to the eyes. Because we were able to use cull lumber from a big box store and some left over lumber this firewood storage rack with cover build was more price friendly. We hope to inspire you as we build this outdoor firewood shelter. :)

Firewood shed. With your other wood shelter by your shed you should have plenty of firewood to get you through the winter. Great video.

9 reinforced Cinder blocks 4 treated wood Pallets 8 treated 2by4s and 2 treated plyboards will get you the same thing but it will be cheaper
@SilverLiningDayDreams
@SilverLiningDayDreams 3 жыл бұрын
True. Good point. Downside to consider though is that it looks and feels cheaper. Because we have a city lot with a pool by it and want to make more of an outside cooking area it was worth the extra expense to make more aesthetic. Plus no worries if grandkids climb on it or under it as it will hold an elephant 🐘. Thanks for watching and giving input for our viewers to consider. Again Great point 😊

@@SilverLiningDayDreamsFair point there but it all depends on where you get the lumber
@SilverLiningDayDreams
@SilverLiningDayDreams 3 жыл бұрын
I forgot to mention that most of the fasteners and the lumber on the roof and on both flanks were left overs from other projects which did help significantly with the cost. The posts and the outer squared frame were ground contact treated lumber we purchased however which were very pricey. I might do a follow up video explaining some of the build and the whys more in detail. For example I would have loved to have had the roof a little higher and pitched back but that would have caused too much rain water toward my neighbors house which is super close to the firewood shed.

Sloid build, lots of strong work, but I think I would've put cement in the post hole, and sloped the roof a tad. But I live in the mountains of East Tn and we get a lot of rain. But I thank you for effort. Love the vibe.
@SilverLiningDayDreams

Thanks for the well thought out comments and suggestions. Yes, agree, best to pitch roof back to drain water. Because my neighbor’s property is close behind the structure and because she has some plants on other side of fence as a courtesy to her we didn’t slope the roof back. And I knew from past experiences not to pitch roof so water comes forward. So we had to settle for keeping it level so that water pushes off both sides of the structure. Over time that will cause some rusting which will be less noticeable with the brown roof. The posts are the newer copper ground treated lumber that are supposed to last much longer (time will tell). I may do a follow up video explaining some of the whys of the build down the road. Stay tuned. Thanks for watching and for supporting our channel 😊
@Ibiron
@Ibiron 3 жыл бұрын
I figured it was something like that. Once I build a patio cover in Ventura CA and got permission to slope it in my neighbors yard, which wasn't a problem with them because they had a drain for their back yard. But.......... they moved and it was a problem for the new owner, so, yea, I get it. You did a very very good job, either way, You could just put gravel on both ends of the shed about 1' deep,, and call it macaroni, viola problem solved.

Nice well done video as well as project. I would have set the posts in concrete, but to each their own? Still cool build, using salavaged and ‘economical’ lumber! Betcha glad you not building that now! Sorry about ‘G’ ☹️ Stay safe and Healthy! 👍👍👍😁✌🏻🇺🇸
@SilverLiningDayDreams
@SilverLiningDayDreams 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks 😊. You’re probably correct on the posts. I had a left over bag of concrete I used with one of the posts. The posts which are from Home Depot are ground contact rated as they are pressure treated with micronized copper azole compounds. They are supposed to double the life of the posts compared to traditional preasure treated lumber but time will tell. Who would have thought a year ago wood would be so expensive. Thanks for the well thought out comment and for the sympathy on G’s passing. Stay safe!

Great build, I have several issues with it but... everyone is a critic... I have to say what did it for me though was the fact you had to wear a mask outside to cut the tops of your 4x4s. I through my hands up right there.

I try not to share too much personal information on our channel but I had recently had cancer surgery and they rebuilt part of my face between my lip and nose. So there’s couple vids where I try to protect and or hide things by wearing a mask. Subscribe for more and hopefully I’ll be without a 😷

Love this. I am copying you completely. Are the 4 x 4 posts approximately 10' long? And are they in the ground about 2' or so? Thanks and congrats on what I call an awesome "firewood shed"
@SilverLiningDayDreams
@SilverLiningDayDreams 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks. May want to check codes in your area for depth. I think mine were 10 feet long and maybe a couple were 12 footers. Because of rock and clay I could only get 2 to 3 feet down. The plan was to maybe tie it into the fence posts which were put 4 feet underground to get under the frost line. Be sure to angle your roof slightly to move water off. You got this 👍

Great looking firewood holder. With all of the lumber that you put into it I'm thinking it cost more than I would want to pay for something that only holds about 1.8 cord of firewood. (12 ft. W x 3 ft. deep x 6 1/2 ft. H = 234 cu.ft. = 1.82 cord) I burn 4.5 cord a year so I'd need 5 of those covered holders for a 2-yr. supply (aging, ya know). Mind telling us what it cost?

Because we live in the city and we have a smaller city lot and because we rent our home on Airbnb periodically during the summer; we wanted to build the wood rack so that it was very pleasing to the eye. So that was one of the main priorities. Besides getting 75% off on the decking boards we were able to use left over pieces of decking boards for the sides and top. So that helped offset some of the cost. You are correct in that there are less expensive ways to build this! When we sit on our back deck by the house and look at the firewood rack when filled with wood it is very beautiful to our eyes. I also didn’t pitch the roof back so it doesn’t wash away our neighbors flowers that are behind the wood rack when there’s a gusher of a rain storm. If we were out in the country, and for example, had a homestead, we would’ve probably built a much larger and less expensive wood rack and put it further away from the house and pitched the roof back. Sorry I don’t have a cost for it all as I didn’t really keep track at the time 😊
