On August 26, 2021, thirteen service members gave their last full measure of devotion at Hamid Karzai International Airport.
Today, we remember their service and sacrifices, which enabled the evacuation of nearly 130,000 people out of Afghanistan.
Semper Fidelis.

I agree with most of the video and it's beautiful. As a former marine I write this. Something the Sgt Major said. These Marines didn't die for the constitution. They died to rescue Afghan civilians. The taliban was never effecting us and their has yet to be a attack in the states tied to the taliban. They died because we as Marines believe in helping people regardless if they are Americans or not and we are a breed that wanna help at the cost of our own lives. All that's fine, just don't make everyone sit here and listen to their sons aren't coming home because they were defending our freedom. That's bullshit
@jamannk
@jamannk Жыл бұрын
They died because their “leadership” failed them. They died because they followed orders NOT to engage with the bomber they literally could see preparing for the attack days in advance. They died because of the cowards that sit behind desks and rank and live fat fucking lives with zero accountability. Don’t fall for the empty propaganda. They were heroes, no doubt. But there is no justification or excuse for their deaths.
@blargety

Tactically, the Marines have never failed to complete the mission. From Saigon to Kabul, the Marines will always salute, execute and finish our mission with honor, courage, and commitment. Strategically, our General Officers need to do a better job of exercising Semper Fidelis and taking accountability for strategic level failures. Semper Fidelis means standing up to bad courses of action and taking accountability for your failures with extreme ownership. That didn't happen here. To the 31 Purple Heart recipients of HKIA's Abbey Gate, we see you. You are not forgotten.

I got home to find out we lost 13 brave people. I’m not ashamed to say I shed tears, not just because it was such a large number of troops but because we were about to leave. Seeing the aftermath was even more heartbreaking, as children will now be raised and even born without knowing one of their parents. Despite what the news tells us, we are blessed. Innocent people were able to come to America. The war never came to American soil. You can say anything you want about the government and not get reprimanded. It’s very tragic but this is why we are the land of the free. It’s because we happen to be the home of the brave. Semper Fidelis

Did they explain that the Marines on the wall knew what the bonnet looked like? But the people they trusted their lives to ordered them not to engage? Did they explain how the “leadership” trusted the Taliban to behave as “security?” The same people who liberated the bomber who had total freedom of movement and was allowed to perpetrate this atrocity? Did they explain that when things go wrong it won’t be the “leadership” who suffers, it will be you? Nah probably not.

All for nothing!!!! Terrible nightmares still 15 years later! Lost 7 of 72 hardcore Marines. I have memories that I will never share with my family. FOR WHAT!!! TO SURRENDER!!! We left NOTHING on the battlefield and it was all STRIPPED away! WE GAVE BACK CONTROL TO THE VERY ENEMY THAT WE WERE SENT THERE TO DISMANTLE!!!! POLITICIANS HAVE NO PLACE IN OUR FIGHT! CIVILIANS HAVE NO PLACE IN OUR FIGHT! When people thank me for my service, I simply ask. Did you vote democrat?? If so, I don't want your thanks!!!

The Founding Fathers were very deliberate about including civilian control of the military. Federalist Papers 46 and 59 are written about the importance of civilian authority, primarily Congress, control of the military. Today, there are 91 veterans servicing in Congress the lowest number since before World War 2. However. of the sitting members of Congress under 45, 27% are veterans. And let us not forget that when it came to supporting veterans, every single Democrat voted for the PACT act. 174 House members and 11 Senators ALL REPUBLICAN voted against it. In addition to the measures that will help veterans and their families who were exposed to burn pits to Agent Orange, it also includes increases in mental health services. Contact your local VA.

I was at corporals course when the Kabul bombing happened. I learned the names of the Marines that had been killed to find out one of them was one who I went to boot camp with. It was sad to see this, at the time my corporals course was being held of a base where they started bringing in a bunch of soldiers too tend to the new incoming refugees. I am out of the Marine Corps now, but this was a terrible day and the lives lost that day where terrible I know many OIF and OEF vets felt they wasted years of their lives. It’s hard not to feel the same. Hard not to feel like I lost a friend in a way that could’ve been mitigated with better strategy but it’s easy to play Monday morning quarterback. RIP to the 13 service members who lost their lives that day. RIP to the 2,000+ service members we lost the last 20 years in Iraq and Afghanistan. You didn’t waste your time you paved the way for younger generations and you where there willing to do whatever it took to protect those to your left and right. That’s all you have to remember at the end of the day.

God, feels like yesterday when i had to deal with the refugee crisis first hand. First time as a 4 year airman on a TDY to New Jersey mcguire afb and seeing the thousands of afgans displaced. Never saw combat before but it was the first time I'd see what shrapnel wounds looked like and seeing kids missing limbs or body parts from the war. Saddening see what the cost of war that we had no sense being in the first place does.
